In the modern schools of prophecy, and in books on the subject, they teach people to use "sanctified imagination." They tell them to practice and not to worry about being deceived or getting it wrong: the end justifies the means. A great example comes from Experiencing the Heavenly Realm by Judy Franklin and Beni Johnson:

Do you understand what can happen with your spirit in the spirit realm? You can actually internally see, hear, and speak with your spiritual eyes, ears, and voice. As I began to grasp this concept, it began to make more sense to me. I have often found this concept to be an obstacle to those who want to see into the spiritual realm but have difficulty doing so. You first have to realize that it’s not unlike seeing with our imaginations. Bob Jones, the prophet, uses the term “sanctified imagination.” Pastor Bill Johnson says, “A sanctified imagination positions you for dreams and visions.”
To imagine, you form an image of something in your mind. You actually use your mind to see something that is unreal. What I’m
talking about here isn’t something that you make up in your mind; it’s something you observe that didn’t come from your mind. It’s
something you experience. In Discovering the Seer in You, James Goll states, “I am convinced that any believer can develop the seer
capacity.”
Now, I can hear people say “That’s just vain imagination and you’ll go into error if you imagine stuff.” I agree that there is a danger
of error if we imagine things. But there is also a danger of missing out on incredibly powerful and godly experiences because of the fear of being deceived. There is also a danger in calling something unclean God has called clean.—Judy Franklin, Experiencing the Heavenly Realm, Ch. 5

Notice what's being said here. It's not a gift given to a person from God, it's something they actively develop. When someone gives us a gift, we don't do anything for it; we just accept it and say thank you. Notice also that Franklin says there's danger of error but that's okay because the danger of missing out is worse than the danger of getting it wrong. However, that's not what God tells us in His word. One false prophecy or vision makes that person a false prophet. James Goll is quoted as saying: " . . . any believer can develop the seer capacity." It no longer a gift in Goll's estimation but something a person develops on their own. Finally, notice how Franklin casually tosses in "There is also a danger in calling something unclean God has called clean," completely misusing and distorting this passage of scripture. What you're seeing in this quote is just the tip of the iceberg; the whole book was inspired directly from Hell. And it's from books and teaching like this that modern so-called prophets are getting their teaching.

Perhaps the Lord can speak through a donkey.
D'ya suppose the Hebrew would be "Tongues" for a donkey?? The more folks try to put GOD in their little theological boxes, the more HE kicks the ends out, and does what HE pleases.

IF this were completely true and the NT makes a man of God complete, then why are so many of the preachers, teachers, pastors of many solid bible preaching churches both Protestant and Catholic. Denominational or non-denominational so easily falling into sin , temptations and controversy? what makes all those catholic priests commit such atrocities to young boys and hide their perversion from a church body?- men who religiously study the Bible. Could it be they are preaching in the flesh and not by the annointing of Holy Spirit? Could it as this scripture says?

“He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3‬:‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Yes we need doctrine but we need Holy Spirit just as much today as the apostles did then. Proper doctrine and correct theology are not enough.
I will let the Book that makes a person complete answer this.

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;2 Timothy 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

2 Peter 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.1 Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

Everyone has a choice to make.

If we honestly seek truth, we will find it Mt7:7
It is not that its instantly and fully understood, but that we must “prove” and test and examine. We must hold to what is actually good and reject what is actually evil. Luke the parable of the sower, our hearts can reject the word, or temporarily accept it until persecution or pleasure arises. we need an honest and good heart to accept and hold on to the truth, Mt 13:13

He that has ears to ear, let him hear.

I don’t disagree, scripture is core scripture is primary. Nothing coming from Holy Spirit today will trump what is written. But it would appear there is more available.

““My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”
‭‭John‬ ‭17‬:‭20‬-‭23‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Clearly Jesus wants the believers even of today to understand that the goal is spiritual unity with Father, Son in this age via spiritual maturity knowing we have Holy Spirit in us.

My understanding is that we accomplish this maturity
by abiding in Christ and seeking to move beyond the elementary teaching of the faith. Which the elementary teaching is.

“ Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭5‬:‭12‬-‭14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Just how would we distinguish Good from evil? It has to be revealed by Holy Spirit. Walking in a dynamic conversational intimacy with God to my understanding.

“Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And God permitting, we will do so. It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭6‬:‭1‬-‭5‬, ‭12‬ ‭NIV‬‬
Jesus prayer John 17 was for unity in truth, not unity in diversity of doctrines and morals.
To long for a direct, miraculous connection with the Spirit contradicts the Spirits word 1Cor13:8-13
it is likened to being immature, whereas the fully revealed word is maturity
Paul said he wrote what he received, and we can have the same understanding he did
Eph3:33-4

many want to “move on” to what they think is maturity, but in truth dont even understand the basics yet.
Heb 5:11-12

its like trying to build a house from the top down. Without a foundation.
Jesus said such a house will fall Mt7:24-27

well said. Your response hits exactly the points Jeremiah said.

Jeremiah 23:16 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.
Jeremiah 23:17 They say still unto them that despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you.

Jeremiah 23:21 I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.
Jeremiah 23:22 But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.

Jeremiah 23:25 I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.
Jeremiah 23:26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart;

Jeremiah 23:30 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that steal my words every one from his neighbour.
Jeremiah 23:31 Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith.
Jeremiah 23:32 Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.

Jeremiah 23:34 And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say, The burden of the LORD, I will even punish that man and his house.

I disagree. With all due respect how do you reconcile that with the new covenant and Jesus’ Word.

““Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.””
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭31‬:‭31‬-‭34‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them. And I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me. I will rejoice in doing them good, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, with all my heart and all my soul.
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭32‬:‭40‬-‭41‬ ‭ESV‬‬

““I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. These things I command you, so that you will love one another.”
‭‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭1‬-‭17‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭4‬:‭5‬-‭7‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end. But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3‬:‭12‬-‭18‬ ‭ESV‬‬

This sounds to me there is a direct miraculous connection with the spirit of our living God available to us as heirs, sons, daughters, friends of Jesus but do we live that way? And why don’t we? What makes us ignore this fact? Does it make us uncomfortable our living God is closer to us than our own skin?

Consider that not one passage you cited contradicts what the NT says about how God works on peoples hearts.

The Spirit’s mission was to reveal all truth Jn 16:13
He did so, and that resulted in scriptures 2 Tim3:16-17
The Spirit said the scriptures make a man of God complete.
not personal revelations. Not direct revelations. “The scriptures” make complete.

The tool (sword) of the Spirit is the word of God Eph6:17
Which is written by inspiration Eph 3:3-4
Paul said, by inspiration, that “when ye read, ye can perceive my understanding”
When it is personally revealed miraculously? No. When you read….

what is God’s power unto salvation?
Romans 1:16-17 the gospel/faith
Romans 10:17 faith comes by hearing God’s word
How was it sent?
It is preached Romans 10:14-15
Direct, personal revelations? No

in fact, every action in the Bible ascribed to the Holy Spirit is accomplished in connection with the revealed word.

Spirit convicts John16:8 The word convicts Titus 1:9
Spirit comforts John 16:7 The word comforts Rom15:4
Spirit testifies Heb 10:15 The word testifies Heb 10:16-17
Spirit indwells Rom 8:8 The law of life dwells in our minds Rom8:2,6
Spirit strengthens the inward man Eph 3:16 just as Christ dwells in our hearts by faith Eph3:17
etc

If we have Biblically correct faith, faith guided by the word revealed and confirmed by the Holy Spirit… will we seek ways beyond and outside of what God’s chosen method is?

If we need or have additional revelations, is the scripture *not* complete then? Is 2Tim3:16-17 wrong?

Is Jude 3 wrong, that the faith is once for all time delivered?

Did the Spirit lie when He said through Peter that all things for life and godliness are revealed? 2Pet1:3

The logical consequences of claiming ongoing revelations is an undermining & destruction of faith in God’s expressly stated and clear word.

The purpose of prophecy today isn’t new Biblical Word or anything that is in opposition to the written Word already revealed. Nothing is being added to scripture with today’s prophetic words. Why do think that prophecy contradicts the word by default? Some people call what I’m talking about (walking with God) which is thoroughly biblical and is exactly how God talked to His people in the Bible. Why do we think this ended? It didn’t . Jesus even spoke to Saul/laterPaul and Ananias in this way, the life application is when you are faced with a pressing life issue where a decision has to be made. Do you tell the situation to wait while you go and study the Written word before you make even the slightest decisions? Go left go right? Go up a rickety ladder or wait? Can you possibly have time to be directly instructed by the written Word in the moment by moment decisions of your life? Do you carry a pocket Bible with you and consult it while in the heat of verbal conflict with another person? I bet you don’t. We can be guided by the spirit of our living God within us to say what we need to say in tough conversations. We can be guided by the spirit of our living God within us to go here, do this or that or say this . Our conscience as sanctified and surrendered believers has been cleansed and we can trust it so much as we are surrendered to Christ. Not infallible because God is working through a flawed human who may not be fully surrendered or not walking in step with the spirit. We will make mistakes same as the 12 did. And in those mistakes there is Gods mercy and His grace that cover us as we confess our sins and ask forgiveness. We can embrace our sonship as saints here. Walking in the Spirit. Pressure in our lives from the situations we face reveals the true condition of our hearts and as we find ungodly responses in us from life’s frustrating situations we can confess, repent and try again asking for Gods grace to help us and strengthen our hearts understanding. -actual progressive sanctification in action. What was my heart response to the rude comment that I heard someone mutter at the grocery line? Was I ready to murder the rude person? Why did my heart murder this person difficult to love. Then we can pray and ask God “What is behind that response God? Would you show me why I responded to the person in such a way that didn’t honor you?”

After hearing the Written word preached or taught it penetrates/ cuts us to our hearts via Holy Spirit. And to the extent we are surrendered to Christ,Holy Spirit will speak through our mouths via our sanctified/ circumcised hearts. For we know out of the mouth speaks the heart. Will it be perfect? No because we may not be perfectly surrendered to Christ. But to the extent we surrender our everything to Christ we will be able to speak what Holy Spirit the Spirit of our living God wants us to say to certain individuals. Surrender is the key here and it’s an ongoing process , some call it progressive sanctification which God has invited us to as sons and daughters. We can have faith He will meet us here and guide our thoughts, emotions, actions, imagination moment by moment as we surrender our lives to Him speaking to Him in a 2way conversational intimacy. An outpouring of this walking with God is an action of prophetic word from one believer to another. There is wisdom and discernment we need to engage in as one receiving a prophetic word. When God works in the Spirit through a believer he will work on both ends of the conversation as we can see between Saul and Ananias bringing the believers together in agreement and purpose . An example might be.

Example : Say it’s been on my heart to plant a church somewhere. I’ve been in prayer and fasting. And one day a fellow believer comes up to me randomly and says “you know, it’s just been on my heart to tell you today that I could really see you as a church planter , I feel God wants to use you for great things brother . “ therefore between believers God has verified this prophecy of the believer to plant a church. Now if there is hesitationOr a question as to when a prophecy will be filled . The receiver of the prophetic word can ask God in prayer if He would verify that prophecy or reveal the timing through another source and have faith God will do so.
that is the prophetic word I’m talking about here. This is thoroughly Biblical, when you look at How our God/the triune speaks to people in the Bible Not sure if you are making a rule out of the few abuses of prophecy we see but honest prophetic words can be verified through other sources or situations God may move in to verify His will but primarily the Bible is the safest.

With all that said , I’m on vacation and will be offline till next week so I probably won’t be able to respond for a time. Good Evening.

I will, Lord willing respond to the above. Just wanted to let you know I am reading & ruminatin.

Enjoy your vacation.
What ya doing? Skydiving? Highspeed boats? Mountain climbing?
None of which I can do, lol

In the modern schools of prophecy, and in books on the subject, they teach people to use "sanctified imagination."
Which Guarantees that all the fools will produce is meaningless garbage.

"prophesy" - which includes Tongues, Interpretation of tongues, Word of wisdom, and Word of knowledge isn't Imagined. It's God's WORD communicated by the Holy SPirit to your mind, and all YOU DO is speak what HE GIVES YOU. ANything else is PHONY.

I can't understand completely why you have chosen to beat prophecy up so much like beating a dead horse up so much.

You say it's because your exposing false doctrine,

But I feel with the amount of exceptionally good answers you've had, by now you should have seen sence and realised the importance of prophecy in a persons life.

But all you've done is ignore suggestion after suggestion.

It's almost feels like you like to rub people up the wrong way by continuously knocking a belief somebody holds closely to there heart.

It àlmost feels like it's how you get you enjoyment when your bored, to constantly mock a persons beliefs you say you can't agree with,

Because the amount of people I have seen who have told how important prophecy is to them, but yet all you've done is mock it for 2 months or so now.

I can't even think of one good thing you've said about prophecy in two months.

Which makes me think your enjoying debating with certain people here.

And bordering on picking on people.

I think this is your thing to constantly mock something you can't agree with, but why ?

Is it because somebody has spoke to you bad Personaly face to face, or done something bad to you or a loved one ?.

Because your agenda really has reached a high level of bickering

Feel better? We don't need prophecy now. The Holy Spirit has inspired God's word; it's for everyone. We need teachers, not prophets. Many people have told you this too and you ignore it. Okay for you to ignore what you don't don't agree with but I can't? Is that how it is? You won't change my mind so you might as well not even waste your time trying.

We don't need prophecy now.
Speak for yourself and what you have decided you want to believe.

Eph 4:
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

Are you there yet? I'm not...

1 Cor 14:
3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

Maybe you don't need or want to hear words of exhortation, edification, and comfort from God, but I do.

1 Cor 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

..not in your church, I guess.

The Holy Spirit has inspired God's word; it's for everyone.
That's right, including the scriptures about tongues and prophecy.

We need teachers, not prophets.
According to Eph 4, God gave us both, probably because we need them both.

Many people have told you this too and you ignore it. Okay for you to ignore what you don't don't agree with but I can't? Is that how it is? You won't change my mind so you might as well not even waste your time trying.
1 Cor 14:38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.

yup.

I suppose we still have apostles. Just because He gave some to be apostles and prophets doesn't mean there are still apostles and prophets now. The church was built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets; once a foundation's laid you don't need to lay another one. Today the apostles and prophets live on in God's word. You should probably go back to Bible literacy 101.

Two contradictory thoughts there...

The church was built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets; once a foundation's laid you don't need to lay another one. Today the apostles and prophets live on in God's word. You should probably go back to Bible literacy 101.
Zing! lol

People are going to believe what they want.

Later.

That's just it with you. You disagree with a church belief which wasn't aimed or intended for you Personaly, then you make it personal by saying such a person is trying to convince you Personaly.

Which really is quite rude when a person is sharing there belief, you come along and take it personally as if that person is against your belief system.

Once again you resort to viewing prophecy as something that was only intended for the prophets of the old testament,

Then you come on with I'm enjoying my self putting you down, when you don't realise how your coming across.

You can't see that at times your level of criticism is intimidating at times.

Whilst other times you do show compassion, but more often than not, when your view point is challenged compassion is based on your thought process of believing your doing good by demolishing somebodies belief system that doesn't fit yours.

And the beliefs your disputing, is somebodies heart felt testimony where they feel the holy spirit spoke to them.

Of course such person is going to become defensive over that because it means so much to them.

Of course tho your message is based on what the spirit has already said.

Which make me think your some kind of cessationist.

Maybe im wrong but seeing as I have spent 2 months trying to be friends with you and showing you a lot of patience and tolerance, could you at least tell me if you think any of the gifts of the holy spirit are valid for today ?
As I never had you down as a cessationist but it feals like your not seeking the holy spirit for a gift of Diserment, or is that also dead to ?.
