1 Peter 5:8-9
King James Version

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

Revelation 12:10
King James Version

10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

These verses seem to be contradictory? If I'm correct, in Revelation it says that Satan accuses the saints day and night before God, but in 1 Peter 5:8 it says he walks about seeking whom he may devour? Am I missing something?

Maybe Satan only accuses the saints in heaven for a specific period of time before war breaks out?

Or did these things already happen? Revelation 12 seems to be describing Christ's birth so maybe those the devil accused were Old Testament believers or believers while they were still alive around the time of Christ and he is now cast down to the earth? If the war already happened before 1 Peter that resolves the issue. Hopefully I make sense.

Some believe Revelation to be future, and it certainly looks like the end of the world has not happened yet, so...

Also, Job 1
6 One day the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them. 7 “Where have
you come from?” said the LORD to Satan. “From roaming through the earth,” he replied, “and walking back and forth in it.”

Luke 10:18 Jesus says He saw Satan fall from heaven. From the book of Job it seems Satan is able to enter heaven. But as Jesus approaches the cross, Satan seems to have lost those privileges. Some believe that the same blood that cleanses repentant sinners also cleansed heaven when Jesus returned there. Given that, sin could no longer enter heaven and, consequently, Satan would no longer have access.

Eternity past. Eternity present.

We cannot fathom the concept of no time.

Jesus saw Satan fall. Was that eternity past, or yet future? Or both?

Satan accessing the Throneroom in Job or accusing the Brethren. Past or present?

Everything is finished from God's perspective. He is outside of time.

We, are simply living through, all that has already happened. God is NEVER surprised about something we do, have done, or will do.

Satan and his angels fell like lightening from the 3rd heaven to the 2nd heaven. The 2nd heaven is the realm of the spiritual ("..the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.")

Then, in Revelation 12 this is recorded:

"And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer."

We will notice that the battle is in heaven and that Satan is now referred to as "the dragon". When Satan and his angels originally fell he was not "the dragon". But now, in the above account, he is called "the dragon". The war is in heaven but now it is in the 2nd heaven.

And then this:

"..but they (the dragon and his angels) did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer."

After this fight, they are no longer permitted in the spiritual realm of the 2nd heaven. The passage continues:

"So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."

So, here he is cast to the earth. He will not be brought back into the presence of God until his judgement. In the earth he is subject to time and space. This accelerates his assault on the people of God.

"Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”

But we are not to worry. Before the above is written, this is recorded:

“Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come.."

Here is an example (there are many) where "salvation" does not mean "go to heaven when you die". Here, "salvation" means being saved from what the devil has in store for the earth: his wrath.

The operating encouragement might be summed up in what Paul wrote to the Ephesians:

"..I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ; to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places, according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him. Therefore I ask that you do not lose heart at my tribulations for you, which is your glory."

Now, some might ask: Why didn't Michael and his angels simply destroy the devil and his lot?

The answer is clear:

"..to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places, according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him."

When we, the believers in Christ, are triumphant against the enemy, our victories prove the manifold wisdom of God. It is not for the angels to prove it. Simply being more powerful than someone else does not prove the righteousness of that power. When we, mere humans, carry the grace of God, then God's first decree over man "Let Us make him in Our image and Our likeness" becomes true in time and space. In a sense, God through us expands the kingdom of the Son to the earth.

revelation tells the story of the whole Bible from creation , even up to the end of this creation and it ends as we see the new creation promised in the Bible come to pass. The intent of the apocalyptic visions john saw was to tell the church what the order of things would be going forward “ things that shall be here after “ “ must soon come to pass “

In revelation 12 you see a new vision of israel ( the beautiful woman wearing the crown of 12 stars ) and she’s expecting a son “ man child “ the messiah promised to israel in tbe prophets and law she’s expecting him to be born , and then the man child is born and Satan tries to devour him through temptations and death but instead he is taken up to the throne of God to his right hand where earlier in johns vision he’s already shown he overcame and now holds the keys of hell and death. The man child is Jesus and him being taken to the throne happened after his resurrection

At that point this happened to Hods creation heaven and earth are one creation but look what happened when the earth rejected and crucified Jesus , and heaven received him
for just a moment consider this Jesus ascending to his throne see acts 2: 30-33 and also read psalm 2:8-12)

“And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: ( psalm 2 above ) and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne. ( mark 16:19 rev. 3:21)

(so now consider that this happened after that )

And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them.

Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

(now you see that war he lost on he lost in heaven pouring into the earth and being waged against the church )

……And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭12:5, 7-12, 17‬ ‭

Now consider that’s why after Jesus did this

“So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

said

“To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3:21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

And then The church leaders were saying this to the people of earth

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, ( is present ) seeking whom he may devour: whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭5:8-9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

and Paul

“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:11-12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

air makes perfect sense if we realize Jesus went into heaven and heaven became cleansed and purified and new and Satan was cast out into the earth and barred from heaven forever

a now he’s on earth tormenting and warring against man who God loves and died to redeem Satan is still attacking God through destroying his loved ones on earth

revelation tells of past present and future things , some are in heaven and some are on earth , some happened already some happen now and some will happen sooner or later in it’s time . To the intent to show the church the new heavenly order and warn us of our adversary on earth and what’s coming and what is and what was and will be also leads to the hope of a new creation with God being completed and fulfilled

Satan has access to heaven as implied in Job as well as the Revelation prophecy here. Satan is an animal that was born on the Earth in Genesis 3, which Revelation 12 ties into and confirms that he is the same serpent from the Garden, it is indeed the same character.. Part of the Revelation prophecy is that after archangel Michael throws Satan to the Earth that Satan is also barred from going back up to heaven. This is the implication that until that time Satan can appear before the Throne of God, to which of course he accuses and tempts, similar to the insight we're given in the opening chapters of Job.

The portion of Revelation 12 is the day of the two songs sung on the day the weakest creature that God made, Satan, fights the strongest creature God made, the archangel Michael. It is the day of two songs. On that day the holy angels and saints will be singing songs of great victory and rejoicing in Heaven because the accuser of the saints before the Throne day and night is thrown down. It is also however the day of a song of dire warning too and the day that the holy angels and holy saints sing great woe to the inhabitants of the Earth and Seas because it is the day the Devil be come down to them in great wrath knowing that his time is short. This day will come in the future from our present time and day today right now, but whether we live to see that dreadful day or fall asleep until the end, remember the song of the ultimate final day though and the total victory of God over Satan later in Revelation 20, for that day shall also come, PRAISE JESUS!
