Just curious about this: in Revelation 12 is it saying the war in heaven already happened? Also is it saying that at some point in the past the Devil accused people before the throne of God? So at some point in the past the Devil was before God accusing people and now he can no longer be in heaven? (Revelation 12:8 says neither was their place found any more in heaven).

Satan still accuses the brethren before God. He will be cast down sooner or later. If you want the full picture on the overcomers, read "God's plan and the overcomers" by Watchman Nee.

Satan accuses us because he can attack our conscience, which is a faculty of the spirit. When have a guilty conscience, we are weak because our spirit man is where our strength lies. To overcome, we need to first plead guilty then confess the forgiveness that is ours through the blood of Christ. We testify to the forgiveness that is ours. There is no glory to God if we wallow in self pity and continually focus on sin. Too many Chritians live in defeat because they are ignorant of the victory belongs to us. Yes, we need to know that nothing good dwells in us. We also need to know and express that we are new creations in Christ Jesus.

Thanks Leeloving for your question. The Bible says that the wages of sin is death. Everyone has sinned so the Devil was able to accuse people of sin (with a death sentence) ever since Adam. The Bible says that death reigned from Adam (Romans 5). So, the devil was very effective at accusing people. He won his case. Spiritual death was the result. But then Jesus came along and defeated death at the cross, and was resurrected making an open show of his victory over death. Once Jesus was resurrected, war broke out in heaven. God sent the Holy Spirit and new believers in Christ were instantly at war, spiritually speaking, with the devil. That is why the Bible says to believers that we war not against flesh and blood. And the weapons of our warfare are not carnal. Rev 12, the chapter that you are interested in, talks about this by saying that Michael and his angels (that's Jesus and the believers) fought against the dragon and his angels (that's Satan or the devil and his followers). This war that breaks out starts with Jesus being resurrected from the tomb, if you will. Jesus and his believers overcome the devil by Jesus' blood and by the word of their testimony, that Jesus saves. This war is sort of a belief war, if you will. If God gives a person the ability to believe in Him for salvation, they are saved and the devil has no place anymore in heaven to accuse them. If a person does not believe on the Lord for salvation, then the devil still has a place to accuse I suppose. Eventually, the devil will not be able to accuse anymore in heaven, perhaps because everyone who is intended to be saved will be.

Revelation 13 follows Revelation 12, and both describe future events. The Antichrist (Rev 13) will be appearing shortly (relatively speaking).

The events of Revelation 12, the sign in heaven, Satan's war in heaven and subsequent casting out tot the Earth and being barred from returning, and his wrath at realizing this fact have not yet happened, but they will about midway through the events described in the book of the Apocalypse. Yes, it will be a day of woe on one hand because the Devil be down on Earth and full of wrath, but it will also be a day of rejoicing because after this event Jesus will very soon come back to kill Satan's whole army, PRAOSE JESUS
