Everyone on the Bible discussion forum lately has noticed the rather, um, strident tone. I thought it would be good to inject a little humor into the forum so that we can all take a breather. Please add church signs or slogans that you have see/heard that mix truth with a sense of humor. I was driving to my wife's work this morning and passed a church with this sign that I liked and that I thought a good place to start this thread:

Give God what is right- not what is left!

I can't remember the name of the church now (been almost a year since I have seen it) But I used to pass by this church that had this on its sign. I will use ***** as the church name since I can't remember it.

"****** Baptist Pentecostal Church of God"

I always wondered what the heck that meant!!

It is fine for the thread, but to actually put that sign on the street is probably an example of overcontextualization.

So, it's overcontextualization because it's in a language understandable to the specified population?

EDIT:Kaya ito ay masyadong maraming pati na rin?

English is also understandable to the specified population. This wasn't done for understanding, but for attention and 'popularity'. It is an appeal not on the basis of Jesus' merits and work, but on the basis of cultural assimilation.

. . .and the sad fact is that the church has been doing this now for so long it is hardly recognisable as an alternative to a secular, sinful life. . the lines can be blurred. .

In the UK we have the Church of England (CofE) which is all embracing. was founded by Henry VIII to break away from the catholic church in order for him to divorce and remarry. . so the foundations were wrong to begin with, however. . there used to be a comedy show here called 'Not the 9 O'Clock news' which parodyed the CofE 'creed'

you can find it on you tube, but I recall it kinda went like this. .

I believe in God the Father, Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, UFOs, the New age, spiritualism. . . and on it went. .grief. . everyone but the church, it seems can see it. . .
