Revelation 17:

12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

In your view, what exactly-and-precisely is occurring during the 'one hour' of Revelation 17:12 ?

And, when exactly-and-precisely does it occur in the End Times Scenario timeline?

In my view, it is a literal 'one hour'.

In the context of the chapter and the book:

~ Who/What in the physical world is the 'beast'?

~ Who/What in the physical world are the 'kings'?

~ Who/What in the physical world is the 'whore'?

~ When does the 'one hour' occur in the End Times Scenario timeline?

~ When does what is described in verse 16 occur in the End Times Scenario timeline?

Please DO NOT write any long posts telling us everything you believe - stick to the topic very specifically - only "branching out" as absolutely necessary to define the terms of the topic.

Please DO NOT get into petty arguments about disagreements with your view - instead - discuss.

Please keep your focus on 'one hour' at all times and do not depart from it.

(Otherwise, this thread will be "about every topic" before we get past the first page.)

If you should happen to disagree that it is a literal hour - or any other thing - that is fine - state your case (once) - but, DO NOT fill up the thread with - and, "beat everyone else over the head with" - the same post or idea repeatedly. We get it. You only have to post it once. Everyone knows how to refer back to it if/when necessary.

No. It is not literal. It is a metaphor for a period of time.
Any period of time? A specific period of time? What - in scripture - leads you to think this? And, how would this period of time be further defined?

Please - everyone - let us stay on this specific issue for now and not go into the rest of it yet - since it is obviously significant for/to the rest.

Please post your thoughts - and scripture - on whether or not 'one hour' is really 'one hour'.

Revelation 13:18
Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six.

The beast represents kingdoms and kings, is an eigth king also. The great achievements of mankind's kingdoms is focussed into that one man, the antichrist. That man, the eighth king, is the very core of mankinds rebellion against God over millenia.

Revelation 17:9
Here is the mind which has wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains upon which the woman sits.

The harlot is Rome and there is no other possibility that satisfies, the description of the harlot.

The "one hour" is simply the very short duration and abrupt appearance of the beast, i.e., the antichrist.

Although I firmly believe that most of the timeframes given to us in the book of Revelation are literal, this one does not seem to relate to a literal hour or to a literal 60 minute period of time.

Here are some reasons why I believe this.

1. If we look at what these ten horns or ten kings accomplish in this "one hour", then it seems impossible that all of it could transpire within a literal 60 minute period of time.

Revelation 17:12-18

"And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful. And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled. And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth."

Are we to believe that these ten horns or ten kings will make war with the Lamb and be overcome in the same hour that they hate the whore and make her desolate and naked while burning her with fire? It sounds highly unreasonable to me, especially when one properly understands who this whore truly is.

2. The Greek word which is translated as "hour" in this portion of scripture is hōra, and it appears 108 times in the New Testament. In 89 of those instances, it is translated as "hour", and in the remaining 17 instances, it is translated as "time," "season," "day," "eventide," "instant," and "short", and this can be verified here:

https://www.blueletterbible.org/lexicon/g5610/kjv/tr/0-2/#lexResults

In other words, this "one hour" could possibly be translated as "time," "season," "day", or even "short time".

3. John penned the book of Revelation, and he also penned the gospel of John. It seems to me that there are times in John's gospel where "hour" does not represent a literal 60 minute period of time.

For example:

John 13:1

"Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end."

At the Last Supper, when Jesus' "hour" was come that he should depart out of the world unto the Father, did he depart within a literal 60 minute period of time? No, he did not. He had to go to the Garden of Gethsemane, get arrested, stand on trial, etc., etc., and that all obviously transpired over a period of time which exceeded 60 literal minutes.

In the light of these things, and especially with an understanding of who the whore is, I believe that this "hour" in Revelation 17:12 is not a literal 60 minute period of time.

Do I get a cookie for not deviating from your instructions?

"One hour with the beast" is the key. The Beast (the Antichrist) receives power for 42 months. It is very likely that this "hour" is actually 3 1/2 years, but it could be less since they had not received power "as yet". We cannot really be dogmatic about details but we can certainly compare Rev 3:10 which speaks about the same "hour": Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

One hour seems to mean that it is a short span.

God is giving the world 7 years to cause all people that do not love Him to follow the New Age Christ, and then He will end sin on earth, although the deception started before that time.

The first three and one half years the world still has salvation available to them.

The New Age Christ will establish peace in the Middle East, and the 7 years will begin.

He will be considered a great man of peace, and the biggest player on the world scene, and he will push the agenda of the new age movement and things will change drastically.

The 10 horn kingdom is the world split in to ten sections with a leader in each section who will rule for the first three and one half years but they will fail at obtaining peace for the world especially when the 6th trumpet happens during the first half which is the religion of Islam rebelling against the world.

For the Arab nations will come together with the other nations but the religion of Islam will rebel because they will not allow anything to be taught contrary to the new age movement which believes in no God, and they also stop the preaching of the Gospel.

That war will be so terrible to cause one third of the population of the earth to perish which will be concentrated in the Arab nations as the Bible says 3 horns, sections, shall be plucked up by the roots which the 6th trumpet describes nuclear weapons.

The 10 horns then hand their power over to the New Age Christ, beast, which is how he gets control of the world, and he rules for three and one half years.

So one hour with the beast means it is a short span but it is more than one hour.

Rev 13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
Rev 13:3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.

Rev 17:10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
Rev 17:11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.
Rev 17:12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

The 7 heads are the 7 kingdoms on earth before the beast who is the 8th king.

5 are fallen 1.Egypt 2.Assyria 3.Babylon 4.Medo-Persia 5.Greece.

1 is operating at the time of John which is the Roman Empire which the Roman Empire does not lose their dominion until God puts down the world.

And one is to come which will continue for a short space which is the 10 horn kingdom that will rule for three and one half years which comes from the Roman Empire which the new age movement is a Caucasian led plan.

And then the 10 horn kingdom will give their power to the beast and he will rule for three and one half years.

The Bible says that one of the beast's heads was wounded to death, and the deadly wound was healed, which the 10 horn kingdom failed at providing peace on earth, and things got out of hand, and with the 6th trumpet and the devastation of that the world lost hope for there to peace on earth, and they were in despair.

But the beast gave them hope, and said he could provide peace on earth, and the world believed him, and the deadly would was healed.

Rev 12:3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

In chapter 12 the crowns are on the heads which is Satan deceiving people in the spiritual realm which the Bible says the 8th king is of the 7 kings.

In chapter 13 the crowns are on the horns which is Satan in the physical realm as the beast deceiving people.

The beast is the system and the New Age Christ.

The whore is the unified religious system with all religions interpreted by the new age movement.

I will take a more thorough look at what has been posted a bit later on; however, in the meanwhile - after only a quick 'scan' (before preparing to sleep) - I decided this was worth throwing in at this point:

Do not forget to consider the possible differences between 'hour', 'the hour', and 'one hour'.

Regarding this "one hour", we have already seen this:

Revelation 17:12-18

"And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful. And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth."

These ten horns or ten kings shall receive power as kings for "one hour" with the beast or with the Antichrist. In the timeframe of this "one hour", these ten kings shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall burn her with fire. Well, if we just keep on reading straight into Revelation chapter 18, then we gain more insight into this desolation and burning, and the "one hour" associated with it.

Revelation 18

King James Version

1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.
7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
9 And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
12 The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,
13 And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.
14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.
15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,
16 And saying, Alas, alas that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!
17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!
19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.
20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;
23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

In verses 8, 9, 18, and 19, we see the same burning and desolation of this whore that we saw in the preceding verses at the end of Revelation chapter 17, and this burning and desolation is equated with the timeframes of "one day", in verse 8, and "one hour", in verses 10, 17, and 19. With such being the case, again, I do no believe that this "one hour" is a literal 60 minute timespan, but instead the timeframe in which the whore's judgment shall begin.

Revelation 17:17

"For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled."

Will the words of God in relation to the whore's judgment be fulfilled by these ten kings in a literal "hour" or in a literal 60 minute timespan?

I would have to say "no". Instead, they will begin to be fulfilled at a set "hour" in time, but their actual fulfillment, I believe, will take more than 60 literal minutes.

Furthermore, there are many indicators in this 18th chapter of Revelation, as well as in the 17th chapter of Revelation, and other chapters, which tell us exactly who this "whore" is. She is Jerusalem, and God will ultimately judge her for her sins which have reached unto heaven after she enters into an end-time covenant with the antichrist. This can be so easily proven if we simply allow the Bible to interpret its own terms.

Anyway, I do not foresee all of her judgments transpiring within a literal 60 minute timespan, but I do foresee them beginning at a set "hour".

No. It is not literal. It is a metaphor for a period of time.
But, why do you think it is a metaphor?

Any period of time? A specific period of time? What - in scripture - leads you to think this? And, how would this period of time be further defined?
Can you answer my questions?

"One hour with the beast" is the key. The Beast (the Antichrist) receives power for 42 months. It is very likely that this "hour" is actually 3 1/2 years, but it could be less since they had not received power "as yet". We cannot really be dogmatic about details but we can certainly compare Rev 3:10 which speaks about the same "hour": Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
This is every occurrence of 'one hour' in the Bible:

Daniel 4:

19 Then Daniel, whose name [was] Belteshazzar, was astonied for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spake, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream [be] to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.

Matthew 20:

12 Saying, These last have wrought [but] one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.

Matthew 26:

40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

Mark 14:

37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?

Luke 22:

59 And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this [fellow] also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.

Revelation 17:

12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

Revelation 18:

10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.

17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,

19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

Is there any biblical reason to not believe that these are all referring to a literal hour? ("or thereabouts")

Why would one specific case in all of these be any different from the rest?

If "one hour with the beast" is "the key" - does that mean that the time frame for 'one hour' in the Revelation 18 verses is 3.5 years?

Do you not realize that the 'one hour' [with the beast] could be the 'climax' of a 'building-up' process to that point in time?

Revelation 17 paints a picture of a woman on a beast - having 10 horns - which are 10 kings...

12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

Yet - at this point in time (as depicted) - 'have received no kingdom as yet'.

When will they 'receive power as kings one hour with the beast'?

13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.

17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

And, what is the climax of the words of God that shall be fulfilled?

14a These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them:

What else will be fulfilled?

16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.

Revelation 18:

8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.

19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

If you will read Revelation 17-18 very carefully, I believe you should be able to see that it is talking about a particular point in time - after Jesus returns - when the woman (BABYLON) is judged and destroyed by God. There is no 3.5-year 'tribulation' period in the context of these two chapters of Revelation.

The 'one hour' is specific to the time when the ten kings 'receive power as kings one hour with the beast' - it does not mean that everything you read about in Revelation 17-18 is occurring within 60 minutes of time. Rather, the 'one hour' is referring to a 'climax' point in time at/after which certain things are "set into motion"... (And, it would still be valid for the 'one hour' of chapter 18 to be a different hour than the one in chapter 17.)

In other words, this "one hour" could possibly be translated as "time," "season," "day", or even "short time".
Do you not place any faith or trust in the work of the translators as being correct?

In other words, if it actually meant something different - would it not have been translated that way?

14a These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them:
And, after one hour, the ten kings are no longer "in power" - neither is the beast "in power" - because, the Lamb is [now] "in power"...

This is why they 'receive power as kings' with the beast for only one hour.

Can I hijack your thread a little bit, could you chime in on my thread, id value your opinion on this:

If you are here to 'win' - then GET OUT AND STAY OUT! (Do not even "come in" in the first place.)

However, if you are here to 'discuss' in an appropriate respectful intelligent manner - then, please add your $0.02 for the sake of understanding and edification.
Yeah it’s not literal God exists beyond the scope of the measurement of time it is a construct the measure of time I mean it’s just exhibiting a short period of time but that could be hindreds of years in gods perception

“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

what’s happening in that time period reveals is the ten kings mission is to destroy and defile Israel leaving her naked and destitute its speaking of Gods prior prophecies

“And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of Lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful. And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭17:11-14, 16-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

ehats jeeping the world going is Gods words havent all been fulfilled pertaining to the broken covenant you can read Daniel it’s a companion to revelation they are meant to be considered together in places

a daniels four beasts with seven heads that rise up from the great sea is the beginning of johns one beast with seven heads the difference is Daniel spoke at the beginning of this and johns vision is at this point of it after five of the kings had already ruled and fallen one was ruling in johns day and one more would arise after then , one of those seven would re appear and have ten other kings serving his Will to destroy and take vengeance on Israel for breaking the covenant

Jesus was talking about the same time period a lot telling his disciples what it would be like after he left earth for them

“Then let them which are in Judæa flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. ( until gods words are fulfilled )

And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭21:21-22, 24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

That was the beginning of the tribulation period that would continue until the end of time the hour is just telling us this time has an end and in the big picture it’s just a short period compared to eternity

The whore is a city. Read Revelation 18.
