and our Savior was a Jewish man, following Jewish law.... are you Jewish?

What you do with your family is your business, but I think that if you are going to follow Jesus, as "discipleship", there are many, many more things you should do that mean WAY more than observing a Jewish holy day.
Give sacrificially, feed hungry people, clothe people that need protection from weather.. show love and compassion to everyone that is a societal outcast.. many more meaningful ways to be a disciple, that will have a much larger impact on the world than giving up a few of your creature comforts for a day as an outward show of piety.... IMO, of course.

If, on the sabbath, you took your family to a homeless shelter, or to a downtown area where homeless people live, and got out
amongst them and brought them a hot meal, and warm clothing in cold weather, which do you think would be more effective as a disciple? Find a homeless family and buy all the kids school clothes and supplies...
You're right, our Savior while on earth followed the Torah perfectly. As I stated, I am a Gentile disciple of Jesus.

I stated that obeying the Sabbath commandment is an act of discipleship. It is not the only act of discipleship, but one of many that a believer can engage in. I do want to highlight that the Sabbath is much more than "a Jewish holy day," or "a day as an outward show of piety." Scripture declares that it is God's holy day (Exodus 20:10).

The things you mentioned are certainly good deeds. Personally, I know Christians who minister in the ways you mentioned but don't believe the Sabbath commandment is required any more . And, I know Christians who minister in those ways on the Sabbath as part of their observance. All of these believers, in my opinion, are demonstrating discipleship to Jesus. My original statement was in no way meant to indicate that a Christian who holds to a doctrine that teaches the Sabbath commandment is not required can't be a good Christian or practice discipleship.

I think some people enjoy being under the law.
The Law includes things such as not committing murder, honoring the seventh day Sabbath, loving the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, loving your neighbor as yourself, returning your enemy's property if you see it unsecured (such as a wandering donkey). I am curious as to the definition of "under the law" that you have been taught.

Do you still follow the dietary laws?

Despite the comments from some people here seasoned with sarcasm or commandment cancelling/transformation, I would like to respond to you as a believer who celebrates the Biblical seventh day Sabbath/Shabbat.

Ultimately, it will come down to conviction in the matter. In Jewish communities there are varying community standards. "Ask your local rabbi" seems to be the go-to response if unsure. My advice is don't go to the rabbis. Examine the Scriptures that teach on the Sabbath commandments, then go to Jesus and His teachings for how you base your observance. And whatever you do don't be disuaded by any well meaning believers that you should disregard the commandment. Blessings!
What do you think about this scripture? "So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone." Deuteronomy 4:13

So are we still under the old covenant?

My engagement here was in regard to the OP about using a microwave on the Sabbath. I'm new to Christian Chat. Perhaps you could private message me and we could have a discussion about these things? I would be happy to dialogue with you.

Good question. As I replied to JohnB, if you'd like to converse about these things feel free to message me. My intention here wasn't to argue with anyone but to address the Sabbath question regarding microwave use.

Btw...I like your profile pic. I used to have the Visual Bible Matthew on VHS.

We're not obligated to stay strictly on topic here; most people don't actually. I'm not asking you to argue; I asked your opinion about a specific scripture. You said it was a good question so why not discuss it? I don't do messaging; if you want to address this question with me you'll have to do it in the open forum.

I tend to believe Jesus when he told us about the law and prophets....

37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the great and [u]foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 Upon these two commandments hang the whole Law and the Prophets.”

Fair enough.

Scripture contains numerous covenants, beginning with Noah. The term "old covenant" appears once in all of the Bible (2 Corinthians 3). Christians belong to the new covenant, as prophesied and outlined primarily in Jeremiah 31.

Scripture declares that it is God's holy day
..... and what makes a day "holy" ? What does holy mean to you? To me, it simply means "set apart".... it is more a remembrance...

My original statement was in no way meant to indicate that a Christian who holds to a doctrine that teaches the Sabbath commandment is not required can't be a good Christian or practice discipleship.
And I was not saying that you don't practice other acts of discipleship.... I was pointing out that many people get bogged down in worrying about "can I do this, can I do that" on the "sabbath" day, when they really should be worrying about "have I been the hands and feet of Jesus today, in loving my fellow man?"

Okay, but that doesn't really address my question. Are you saying the ten commandments are a different "covenant" than the rest of the law? If so, what do you base that on?

I remember the Sabbath Day as the day that you are affectively (? or is it effectively?) dead. The Holiest Day of our entire history, the holy of holies, is the day Jesus died, eternally resting even, and is now sitting at Father's Right Hand until He make His enemies His footstool. Does anyone observe that?

No, I am not claiming the ten commandments are a different covenant than the rest of the law.

Initially, you quoted Deuteronomy 4:13 and asked if we're still under the old covenant. Are you asking if we're still obligated to obey the ten commandments? If so, what is your view?

I don't think that we are.
The reason is because The Law-Giver is in us and the Law is written on our hearts and mind... according to Scripture.

Why would anyone want to deal with God on the basis of the law? We are taught to walk in the Spirit and thereby not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. Thus, we will live, but not us, Christ will be living in us.
Trying to keep the commandments in our own strength is doomed to failure.

Let's look at this for a Moment.
Look at every SIN, Individually.
Each One [SIN] is connected to the 10 Commandments.

Why do we Repent when we SIN?
We Broke a Commandment.

That will always be Eternal.

No, we're not obligated to the ten commandments; they were part of the old covenant. Paul considered them part of the "ministry of death, written and engraved on stones." (2 Corinthians 3:7) Our obligation now is to the Holy Spirit. I've started a new thread on this subject which should be up soon.
