I have heard of some Christian women, who are cheerleaders. I'm not talking about high school cheerleading here. I'm talking about football or basketball or college level stuff.

I'm asking this in a sincere, honest, non-judgemental tone here...

But how do they/you, reconcile the revealing uniforms they wear and the rather provocative moves they make, how do you/they reconcile that with some of the clear standards we see spelled out in the Bible?

Most cheerleaders tend to wear pretty revealing uniforms. Some of the dance moves they make tend to shake or bend parts of the body that cause most heterosexual men to fall in to lust.

I'm not making some claim to being in some elite holy club here as I look down upon the scantly clad and dancing cheerleaders.

It's an honest observation and question, because maybe I'm missing something... So please, if you are someone engaged in this activity, please don't put up your defenses right away and assume I'm somehow just putting myself in a place of high holiness.

I really don’t know how they do it. I was a cheerleader in school and there were times when that was bad enough. The sweaters and skirts were okay, but as a sophomore we were supposed to have white short shorts and a little sailer top to wear for the warmer part of the school year. I told them that I would wear white shorts, but I was NOT going to wear the short shorts. One flip/split and those things are a thong! Just sayin….

I been in dance all of my life and I teach dance for fun/exercise. There have been times when the costumes I’ve been asked to wear contained far less material than I thought they should. Sometimes I’ve refused, but there have been other times when I should have and didn’t because of time constraints and inconvenience to others.
In my classes, we appreciate the art of REAL DANCE, NOT the art of pole-dancing.

Ever watch Toddlers & Tiaries and the moves they want those baby girls to do!!??? They should be slapped repeatedly.

You totally get it! It's like quit with the scantly clad women who make me lust, and get me back to the violent sport, so the spirit of love can be cultivated in me.

This begs an introspective question. Why does the lust caused by cheerleaders bother me, but the violence caused by the game doesn't.

Because watching strong, grunting, alpha males battle it out with brute force isn't a sin... and it subconciously appeals to the alpha male inside of us. :)

In all fairness... as much as we don't like the idea of guys drooling over short-skirted, tight-sweatered women... I am wondering if the ladies out there will admit to noticing the good-looking male athletes as well?

I mean, I remember going to a college hockey game for the first time and thinking, "Wow, I never knew hockey could be so... interesting." It wasn't exactly the game (or violence... sorry guys!) that I was watching. I'm not saying I was lusting over hockey masks and protective gear, but... same thing... sets us ALL up for unrealistic expectations as far as looks.

If I had a daughter I'd probably be running out to buy her cute little cheerleader baby clothes and then matching cheerleader stuff thereafter. Wouldn't want to discourage daddy's little darling. Then later hopefully she could get daddy comp tickets to the big game.... and make sure she was always cheering for the right team. I'd also encourage her to have really big curly blond hair.

Interesting... I SOOO need to hear girl's perspectives on this... I watched a female sporting event once and something in me was just totally captivated by one of the players... way worse than a cheerleader could ever get me and she was wearing way more than any cheerleader but I realized if she actually played in a regular league in my city I'd probably end up so emotionally attached to her that I'd just decide I couldn't take going to anymore games. Does this happen to girls or are you stronger than momma's boys like myself?

I have no idea what you're talking about, Kim. I like baseball pants ... ooops...errr...games and appreciate the players solely for their athletic abilities. :D

Who me? Yes, I'd be happy to let her do it. I never saw a problem with it. I'd be proud to have a daughter who had an athletic body like that and had that positive energy in her. Maybe because I have a degree in art and I have a great appreciation for the human form, I am more open minded about displaying the beauty of the human body. I've had to sit in art class staring at naked models for hours at a time while trying to draw them (both men and women). And I am talking stark naked...no hidden secrets, if u know what I mean.

I'd have to buy a shotgun though and hang it over my front door so all her dates can see it. :)
