Hi, I would like to have a serious discussion about seeking the Lord. I have been praying earnestly the last few weeks, trying to get the Lord's help. He has been helping me some, and I have a long way to go. Is there anyone else out there mature who wants to talk about Jesus experientially (and not ram scripture down the throat of whoever will listen to them)? I am looking for a discussion among equals of whoever speaks to and hears Jesus on a daily basis.

Fasting.

God's always ready to talk to you. Fasting doesn't twist God's arm. But fasting gets you out of the way so you can hear.

(This post written while eating breakfast, ironically.)

This statement is a huge Red Flag.. People who do not want to read scriptures do not want to hear the will of God... People who read and love the Bible every day, hear from God every day..

Eh, not so much. We have a LOT of examples here on the forum of people who just spout Bible verses instead of giving a real answer from personal experience.

Not to be contentious, but a lot of "real answers from personal experience" do not properly align with the written and revealed word of God or with the Jesus of scripture. In the volume of the book it is written of him (Jesus), so we need to be firmly rooted in God's word to know who Jesus truly is.

That said, I get your point as well.

Good topic.
Prayer is always a wonderful way to be in a relationship with God.
My relationship with God is a 24/7 affair and it involves two key concepts. Prayer and gratitude.
These two concepts involve almost anything throughout your daily life.
For example, you wake up. I say Thank you God for raising me, and I do my morning prayers.
Then I ask Him to bless my day, my family, my friends, and give a sign to all the suffering out there.
Then you have breakfast, you say Thank you again Before and After.
Then you drive to work and you say Bless my way and my day so I can serve to the best of my abilities.
Then you purchase something, you ask Him to bless your purchase which can be anything from lunch to a car or a house.
So it’s literally talking 24/7 about anything and everything you do in your life by asking or praying and by being grateful by Thanking Him.
We can talk a lot more on details here if you’d like.

Hi guys, thank you for your responses. I appreciate Lynx backing me up. I wasn't expecting an immediate reprimand from a senior member on my very first post. In my life as a Christian I have tried to share the love of Jesus with a lot of misfortunate people, and sensitivity is a prerequisite for that. But if you want scripture, I'll give you scripture. "He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal." — John 12:25. It seems to me that if everyone actually believes what scripture says we would be sacrificing everything in life to know Jesus in His sufferings and selflessly live for others. "Let no one seek his own good, but that of his neighbor." — 1 Corinthians 10:24. Instead, we Christians live selfishly, operating on the principle that we need to take care of ourselves first so that we can take care of others, just like everyone else. Remember what Jesus told the Rich Young Ruler? First He told him that to have eternal life he needed to keep the commandments (the opposite of what the Apostle Paul taught) and then Jesus told Him to sell EVERYTHING he had, give to the poor, and follow Him. When I was young, I lived by these all these scriptures. I worked extremely hard in the secular world where I did both my secular work and where I helped everyone around me until there was no one left to help, skipping food and sleep day after day, and still spending time with my antisupportive Christian family and clueless, immature Christian friends, and my Christian church that had withdrawn their support of me simply because the singles pastor was too lazy to follow up with me after he had appointed me a life group leader. But that was a very long time ago for me. Most of these Christians in my life did very unChristian things, and my observation is that successful Christians today with successful relationships are the ones with support. Good parents, a loving significant other. Most Christians fit in in church because they are too naive to understand the whole message of Christianity. They hear the positive, happy, optimistic verses, and not the ones I quoted here. They never take serious risks because they don't think independently, but they follow along with the lackadaisical Christian crowd. How many Christians act on the crisis that 99% of the people around them are damned to hell? I used to. I sacrificed everything. Now I have nothing. Do you think character change in other people comes by blasting them with scripture? Here's what scripture says on that: "The kindness of God leads us to repentance." Jesus did not use scripture to preach to people. He told stories. He only used scripture when dealing with religious people, like I am doing with you.

Now having said all that, I have permanent problems in my life that keep me from working, having normal relationships, and living independently. I have not been able to get all my needs met by the Lord and instead having fallen victim to care from people who don't believe in Him. I have felt for a very long time that I am not devoted enough to Him in my heart for Him to work the miracles of healing, restoration, and forgiveness that I need. Most people have careers, relationships, and adult responsibilities, but I have none of those anymore. I used to. But I have not been able to succeed in life due to some really major problems that I don't have the power to change, and some of which I cannot rightfully talk about because they would involve saying bad things about people. Truly the only way forward for me in my permanently stalled life (more like seized than stalled) is to seek the Lord's face until He responds, and keep doing it every day until He begins to supernaturally change some things that I have no ability to change myself. Lynx, thank you for the suggestion on fasting. I used to fast extremely often. Unfortunately, right now due to physical factors I can't fast anymore.
There are some Christians who have sought the Lord closely, who knows how to seek His face, who knows how to listen to Him for specific direction, and who perhaps have received miraculous deliverance out of bad situations, who then go on to live normal, successful lives. If serving the Lord is like being a soldier, it's like they are in the Reserves. I never settled into a normal, successful life, despite herculean efforts early in life. I have waited a long time to make my appeal to people so desperately (16 years), but I have finally come to the point where I feel it necessary to seek others who unequivocally pursue Jesus, since I have no other options in life. Hence my original post: Talking with Jesus. I was trying to be polite, originally, but some people have given away their lives in exchange for a direct one on one relationship with the Lord, and others haven't, and I am seeking anyone who has.

By the way, welcome to the forum. Sorry, I didn't notice you are new.

Getting a reprimand from a senior member is par for the course. Lots of people come to this forum because they can't get along with people in real life, so they come here to disparage people from behind a screen. Don't let it bug you. "Senior" is just a reflection of post count, not seniority or respectability. (I mean... Just look at MY post count, and I'm neither senior nor respectable.) :p

This last post you made is starting to sound a LOT like what seoulsearch (another longtime forum member) says sometimes. I'mma see if we can get a reply from her, as she has more to say on your topic than I do.

it's very natural to tell of scripture because scripture easily points 1 in the proper direction. langston, nathan & stephanus divided the Bible into chapters & verses for our benefit & ease of learning scripture. please don't take it as "ramming down the throat". anyway, you say you are seeking the Lord. are you a born again Christian? that's the 1 & only best start for anyone. all b.a. Christians live with God's Holy Spirit. the H.S.'s functions are as comforter & teacher. He will assist you every time you read the Bible or ask questions. & to get more of the H.S , He needs to get more of you 1st! the more a Christian dedicates & surrender his or her life, the more they will meet with success seeking the Lord. also, when we admit, identify, recognize & correct all the bad in our life, we draw nigh to Jesus & He draws nigh to us. yes, quite simply, the more you give of yourself to thinking, speaking & acting Jesus, that is transforming to Jesus & releasing the conformity of the world in your life, the more you will get of Jesus! blessings to you.

Karlon, I have known Jesus and studied the Bible my whole life. It is because of this that I have lived very close to Him and know Him intimately. I thought I made myself clear when I said I wanted to discuss talking with Jesus among mature Christians on an equal basis. You really anger me because you blatantly disregarded my express wish for equality and you immediately placed yourself in a position over me. I am really bothered by you. You said "blessings to you" but your actions of condescending to me was the opposite. It seems like you don't really care about me; you care about saying what you know about developing a relationship with the Lord. Well I didn't ask how to have a relationship with the Lord. I already have one. A deep one. And if you are too shallow to have recognized that in the first place, then you shouldn't go around condescending to people. You do more harm than good that way. A lot of people love to share their knowledge just to show off what they know. It seems like you are one of those people. If you actually were capable of applying your knowledge, then you would be applying it yourself, not telling someone else how to apply it. Just to be clear, I created this discussion topic so that people with an advanced walk with the Lord could mutually discuss what kind of things they are learning by talking with Him directly. If you don't have anything personal share for yourself, then you fail to fit the criterion of the topic.

Dude... There ain't one thing on this whole forum worth getting angry about. It's all just letters on a screen.

I could post pictures of my cat if I wanted. It's an open forum. It would be waaaaaay off topic, and slightly rude of me, to do so, but it wouldn't be worth getting angry over.

At least Karlon stayed on topic. ;)

@BrianMeir …. I can’t speak to why your circumstances are so desperate and difficult; but I can speak as someone who has also experienced some extremely challenging times. As a Christian, you don’t need to “seek the Lord.” He has already found you. If you’re not hearing Him speak to you, it’s possible that your circumstances have you distracted and focusing too much on yourself.

I hear from Jesus continually—all Christians do. We hear from Him in the love letter of His Word; we hear from Him as the Holy Spirit guides and comforts us throughout each day; we hear from Him in nature; we hear from Him through people who love us. He is always speaking to us. Yes, life is really, really hard—harder for some than others. But we’re still here, aren’t we? Who is responsible for that? He is! Our lives are in the palm of His mighty hand, and how we handle the challenges that come our way is our testimony. There is nowhere we can be in this life that He is not right beside us.

So thank Him for helping you through everything you’ve faced so far, and be grateful for each opportunity you have to tell someone how He’s held you all these years. Thank Him for this forum, where you can share your burdens and have them lifted in prayer. You’re wrong when you say you have nothing. You have everything if you have Jesus, and it is enough. Instead of thinking about what you may be suffering, think of what Jesus would have you do with that or learn from that. If you just hear crickets, rely on what you know and not what you feel. Remember that patience is a fruit of the Spirit. God is faithful and has promised blessings to those who love Him.

I can’t promise to be an equal in hearing Him. I’m learning though, day by day moment by moment. Mentor after mentor I’m unlearning what I learned wrong and allowing God to reteach me, apprenticing under Jesus. I had a lot of religious programming as a child that ran contrary to God being interested in having a conversation with me. The God I learned as a child was a silent one who spoke what was in the Bible and that’s all the relationship that was available. I didn’t know God at all as a child besides some whispy religious figure from Sunday school flannel graphics. So I’m often fighting against that old religious programming that said God dosen’t speak. So I’m probably not an equal but I’m in process . Do I hear perfectly? Absolutely not, but I’m open to all the ways God desires to have conversational intimacy with me more and more every day. I’m actually engaging the Word with the ancient prayer practice of Lectio Divina which has helped a bunch.

I want to apologize to you, Karlon. I tried to delete my reply as soon as I wrote it but I couldn't. Apparently after 5 minutes it becomes permanent. As I read your post again I get the impression you were trying to explain the basics of the Christian walk. I thought I had implied that I already have fellowship with Jesus, but maybe I wasn't clear. I am very sorry, Karlon. Just to clarify, I don't need help seeking the Lord; what I originally intended was to hear experience, not teaching, from people who presently talk with and hear from Jesus.
