just because i forgive you does nto mean you have to receive my forgiveness..
TRUE!! but unimportant. If I FORGIVE, then I'm free of YOUR bondage. If you don't accept my forgiveness, you're still in bondage.

And the Gospel was never about "Forgiveness" anyway.

I'm trying to imagine Jesus saying, "And the Gospel is NOT about forgiveness."

The Gospel never was about "Forgiveness". It's about CLEANSING FROM SIN, and becoming PERFECT in GOd's sight with the very righteousness of Jesus himself.

That is all related to forgiveness. Without forgiveness there is no cleansing from sin or becoming perfect in God's sight.

If a child makes mistakes but his daddy still loves him forgives and forgets teaches him humbly and gently loving him home , the child will know they are loved and who to love in return

That is all related to forgiveness. Without forgiveness there is no cleansing from sin or becoming perfect in God's sight.
“in whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2:11-13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

amen it’s actually what has to come first before righteousness sinners need to have thier sins remitted so Gid provided an atonement

“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

and that he was buried,

and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:3-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

and we understand why he died

“for this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭26:28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

And we understand why we get baptized into his name

“Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:3-7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We have to first believe Jesus died for our sins and has willingly forgiven us because of his mercy and love towards us , then we will begin to understand God in truth God actually loves people as a father his children enough to suffer and die for thier wrongs to save them from death

“Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven. And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also? And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭7:47-50‬ ‭KJV‬‬

every Christian begins as a sinner who needs forgiveness from Jesus and then later they seek righteousness by learning from Jesus in the gospel

“For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: but if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:14-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

some have no leaniancy towards others some are very merciful and forgiving towards others forgivness is central to the gospel both gods forgivness first and ours towards others because of it

The antithesis of forgive is to hold a grudge. One should forgive because holding a grudge is a cause for continued bitterness to take root. Grudges and bitterness lead to spiritual and mental illness, and destroys faith.
Forgiving someone who is unrepentant turns them over to God to deal with. It does not mean you have to have a continued relationship with them.
The Lords prayer say forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. So when I pray i will often say that I hold no record of sin against me but leave those for You (that is God) to bring them to repentance so that they may be saved.

But "forgiveness" doesn't require BLOOD. it's a simple decision, an "act of the will".

And FORGIVING the sin / offence doesn't ELIMINATE the sin / offence - THAT takes BLOOD, and "Livestock blood" can only COVER / Hide the SIN temporarily. JESUS BLOOD removes it once and for all.

I recall a pastor a bit ago, who fell again to his "besetting Sin", and having repented again, and confessed again, he said "Oh Lord, I'm so sorry that I did it again".

Then he felt the Holy Spirit say to him: "done WHAT again" ???

"To the one who is victorious and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations— that one ‘will rule them with an iron scepter and will dash them to pieces like pottery’ —just as I have received authority from my Father. " Rev 2

Our forgiveness towards others is NOT conditional only if they repent.

Scriptural Examples are too many to list.

This does NOT mean that we repeatedly act as a doormat.

I may forgive someone for some wrong, regardless if they ask or not, but I’ll probably be more aware of their behavior.

I have seen stories on the news, where a family forgives a murderer, even though the murderer does not repent of what they did. They admit to what they did, but are not sorry. How can anyone offer forgiveness to someone who has not repented? Is this an example of casting your pearls before swine?
2 Distinctions:

1.) If we're not careful, we're going to conflate 2 separate and distinct issues:
A.) Can a human forgive another human without a need for repentance?
B.) Can a human receive forgiveness from God without repentance?

2.) Humans can certainly forgive other humans, whether there is repentance or not... as many have already shown from scripture.
A.) We still need to talk about things like "boundaries" and "consequences" for those we forgive but who do not repent.
B.) We also need to talk about the fact that human forgiveness is different than divine forgiveness:
- When I forgive someone it is primarily just a change in my own heart, it is mostly subjective.
- But when God forgives someone there are objective changes made: changes to the person's soul, their eternal trajectory, their circumstances, and on and on.
- It's a topic worthy of much discussion.

3.) Humans do not receive forgiveness from God (not in an atonement sense) without some kind of repentance.
A. In order to have a conversion experience, and receive genuine forgiveness and the eternal consequences of the atonement, there must be repentance.
B. There are however probably smaller, and lesser kinds of "grace", and "patience", that humans receive without the atonement. These are not technically acts of "forgiveness", but these acts of grace and long suffering may feel like forgiveness.

This is a great topic, but we need to be careful not to conflate these two different issues.
.
Have a great week everyone.

I agree. It would seem much too troublesome and going out of the way just in order to 'not forgive' them. Seems that it would required an exertion of way too much effort when I can just give them no more space in my head.

Didn't Jesus forgive those who were crucifying Him?
And didn't Steven do similarly to those who stoned him to death?
Yes, we must forgive even if the offending person is unrepentant.

Forgiving does not mean I ever have to help you again or be your friend.
Exactly.

Scripture does encourage us to seek reconciliation. It does not require us to achieve it, as it does not depend on us alone.

I have 2 siblings GOD used me to take them in and keep them from being homeless. I helped my brother get his Social Security and pension. He was taking in more money than me. He refused to pay his share of the rent, expected me to buy his food. I told him, "GOD provided you with a roof over your head, food on the table and I gave you a car to use" He lifted both fist to heaven and screamed "F GOD" than let out a torrent of swear words at me. At that moment GOD spoke to me and said "I'm done with him" Shortly after that he moved out. Would you forgive him or speak to him again?

He is quoting psalms 2 9, which is a psalm concerning the messiah.

See also rev 12: 5 and rev 19: 15.. it speaks of Christ when he returns.

He will rule with a rod of iron.. He may use them in his rule. but it is christ. not them..
