I have no chip on my shoulder , nor do I ''give myself grace''. However I do feel sad for you and others that have been entrapped by Zone, and or by the false teachers within your denominations.

calling a wolf a wolf is not demonizing anyone. You would be smart to heed my warning.

As far as a chip on ones shoulder, I saw the thread were you, Zone, and Abiding were ganging up on VW, it is very unbecoming. you remind me of school yard bullies, going around seeing who to pick on.

I honestly am burdened for you and others, and will keep you in my prayers.

When you say things like this, you are just being a spiritual phoney, but if you are going to be honest about it, pray that God will give us the grace we need to deal with believers like you and show you a more perfect way through that grace. That way we can grow in grace together and be likeminded through humility. Wouldn't that be a good thing?
As far as having grace toward yourself, that is very important. We are to compare spiritual with spiritual (1Cor 2:13), so when we read in (Rom 5:2) that we have access by faith to this grace wherein we stand, and we compare that with (Rom 14:22) which instructs us to have faith toward ourselves before God, we realize the importance to have grace toward ourselves by faith, so that we will not condemn ourselves in that thing we allow to happen, no matter what kind of sin or stumbling it may be. The next time you do something stupid, don't bang your head against the wall, but rather give yourself grace, then you will see the importance of doing it and saving your head from injury and it may help you relate to others graciously in the mind of Christ.

BTW - You will never find a single verse of scripture that suggests that we should feel sorry for anyone through the flesh. You just picked that up as a religious practice through one of the many forms of relevant righteousness that comes from the human side of our adamic nature.

I thought perfect was a bad word around here?????????

furthermore I will never be likeminded with someone that does not believe God's word, or in all 5 of the ministerial gift, or in believers hearing God's voice or in the righteousness of the believer ect.....

Your beliefs are so far from God's word that you would literally have to do a 180% to become likeminded with true believers.

That being said if you have a biblical question i will answer it, but I will not continue in pointless arguments.

Zone,

I thought that IHOP was a place I could go and get good pancakes. You have wrecked this for me and turned my life upside down. Now everytime I ride by one of those IHOP locations I will be 'snarling' instead of my stomach 'growling'. Oh, how you have taken away one of the many pleasures of life. lol

You make it pointless because you do not like dealing with things that bring light into your soulish nature and expose something in your soul that has not been dealt with through the cross.
Those are some radical and very presumptuous statements coming from your mouth. Are you sure that you are innocent from the great transgression (Ps 19:13)? Have you slipped in your perfection and fallen into the sin of the tongue? That sin of the tongue is the one that most believers fall into that believe in sinless perfection and how God hates that (Ps 19:14, Prov 6:16-19).

Just for the sake in having a good reference, in (Acts 18:29) Aquila and Priscilla pulled Apollos aside and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly - akribesteron, more precise and exact. See, there is a place for perfection and it has to do with the way of God through the word and categorical doctrine that Aquila and Priscilla had been taught by Paul.

Hey loveschild, you can ignore the arguing. There are a few agitators, but as offinsive as they try to be they do not offend me. I know who I am in Christ, and what He thinks of me, what they think doesnt matter at all.

If you have any questions for me ask away.
ya...go over to the thread on the Heresy of Perfectionism, or whatiznames thread on Jezebel Spirit and see how pure 4runner's motives are.

You are excused and please bring me a large flask of cold milk on the double. I will take the risk of being hardened and I'll just have to get more exercise by personally flogging more sinners in the courtyard.

P.S. the question are supposed to be biblical in nature, so I think it fits well in the Bible discussion forum. My goal is to discuss the Bible. Although some have come in and tried to side track the discussion to their own agenda, my agenda is to discuss scripture with whoever had biblical questions.
DOCUMENT THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTION ANYWHERE FOR PRAYER IN THE BIBLE PLEASE.

is this how Jesus taught us to pray?

Contemplative prayer begins with “centering prayer,” a meditative practice where the practitioner focuses on a word and repeats that word over and over for the duration of the exercise. The purpose is to clear one’s mind of outside concerns so that God’s voice may be more easily heard. After the centering prayer, the practitioner is to sit still, listen for direct guidance from God, and feel His presence.
FOR:

Centering Prayer is a Christian meditation technique. It seeks to open one's mind and heart to God by the continuous repetition of a sacred word or formula.

Centering Prayer is a meditation technique which works primarily with the repetition of a sacred word or formula. It is a silent, non-conceptual form prayer and therefore different from conventional spoken prayers such as the Lord’s Prayer or mentally repeated prayers. The practice of centering prayer seeks to still the activity of the mind in order to experience a loving awareness of God’s presence.

What Is Centering Prayer?

Centering Prayer can be summed up in four steps.
  1. Choose a sacred word or phrase such as "Abba," "Jesus," "Shalom" or "Love."
  2. Sit with eyes closed and begin repeating the chosen sacred word.
  3. When ever other thoughts arise, keep coming back to the sacred word.
  4. At the end of your prayer, remain in silence for a while, observing your breathing.
Sacred Words for Centering Prayer

Possible sacred words or phrases for Centering Prayer are "Jesus," "Christos," "Jesus Christ," "Father," "Abba," "God," "Mother," "Mother Mary,"God Mother," "Amen," "God." Other possibilities are "Love," "Peace," "Mercy," "Listen," "Yes."

AGAINST:

Centering Prayer

by Matt Slick
Centering prayer is popping up within the emerging church movement. Centering prayer, also known as contemplative prayer and listening prayer, is the practice of relaxing, emptying the mind, and letting one's self find the presence of God within. It involves silence, stillness, patience, sometimes repeating something, and the practice of "not knowing" as the person seeks God's presence.
Centering Prayer is a method of prayer, which prepares us to receive the gift of God's presence, traditionally called contemplative prayer. It consists of responding to the Spirit of Christ by consenting to God’s presence and action within. It furthers the development of contemplative prayer by quieting our faculties to cooperate with the gift of God’s presence.1
Centering prayer is "the opening of mind and heart - our whole being - to God, the Ultimate Mystery, beyond thoughts, words, and emotions." So, it is a non thinking, emptying of the mind that seeks to find God in a way that is "closer than consciousness itself."2 Why? Because, according to the contemplative mystics, absolute truth is unknowable just as God is mystically unknowable. Sure, they know that they can know things in truthful ways, but ultimate truth is not perceivable via the senses and mind. Experiencing God is through silence, emptying of self through contemplation in the quiet of the mind and soul. Some directions for centering prayer are offered at contemplateiveoutreach.org: Here are four guidelines it recommends.

  1. Choose a sacred word as the symbol of your intention to consent to God’s presence and action within.
  2. Sitting comfortably and with eyes closed, settle briefly and silently introduce the sacred word as the symbol of your consent to God’s presence and action within.
  3. When engaged with your thoughts, return ever-so-gently to the sacred word.
  4. At the end of the prayer period, remain in silence with eyes closed for a couple of minutes.
Sounds pretty mystical doesn't it? Yes, it is and it is based in occult and eastern metaphysical practices, something the Christian church should carefully avoid.

The Occult

Before I became a Christian I was involved in the occult. One of the practices I would undergo when trying to contact the spiritual realm and/or trying to receive some mystical experience would be to empty my mind, remain motionless, and completely open myself up to receive whatever would come. Essentially, I was seeking an altered state of consciousness and contact with the spiritual world. This is one of the hallmarks of occultic practices and it opens the person to demonic contact.
This centering, this emptying of the mind was a physical and mental process of stillness, waiting, non-thinking, and expecting to have a spiritual experience. It worked. Using these techniques I have seen lights move in darkness, a bright yellow cross materialize out of thin air, and I've heard voices calling me from the darkness. I'm not exaggerating. I was not on drugs, medicated, drinking, or sleep deprived. I definitely contacted something in the spirit realm. But, it wasn't God.
God wants us to contact him through his Son Jesus, in prayer, as we meditate on God's word and truth, not by emptying our mind, being still, not thinking, and "feeling" whatever we can spiritually.

Psalm 46:10
“Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”
One of the most common biblical verses cited in support of centering prayer is Psalm 46:10, “Cease striving and know that I am God." But, the verse is not about mental emptiness or physical stillness since that would contradict what the Psalms already teach us about prayer and meditation. We are to meditate actively, using our minds, based upon Scripture, not empty nothingness and waiting.

  • Psalm 63:6, "When I remember Thee on my bed, I meditate on Thee in the night watches."
  • Psalm 119:15,23,27,48,97, "I will meditate on Thy precepts, and regard Thy ways... 23Thy servant meditates on Thy statutes.... 27So I will meditate on Thy wonders. 48And I will meditate on Thy statutes... 97O how I love Thy law! It is my meditation all the day."
We are not supposed to empty our minds and let whatever is out there contact us. Instead, we are to use our minds and meditate upon the word of God. In fact, Rom. 12:2 says, "...be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect." If you are doing nothing with your mind but emptying it in an attempt to reach God, you are on dangerous, unbiblical ground.

Conclusion

Centering prayer is an unbiblical and dangerous practice. It can put a person in an altered state of consciousness and open him up to a spiritual connection that is not in harmony with Scripture.
Instead, we are to seek God in prayers that are non-repetitious, with a focus on God's word and truth, with an active mind seeking to find the true and living God through the revelation of the Scripture and communion with his son Jesus.
In short, avoid centering prayer and avoid whatever church promotes it.

The Faulty Foundation of the Five-Fold Ministry

...to interpret Ephesians 4:11 as a call for a restoration of the office of apostle of Christ is not only a mistake in exegesis, it opens the door to heresy. To claim that the church today needs visions and revelations through modern apostles and prophets of Christ is to deny the sufficiency of the Bible (2 Tim. 3:16 ) and to place the church at the mercy of false apostles, the likes of whom the apostle Paul warned us about in no uncertain terms (2 Cor. 11:13-15 ).

The teachers of the "five-fold ministry," in seeking to "restore" a foundation which has never been moved, are actually laying a false foundation which will not support the building up of the body of Christ.

Your beliefs are so far from God's word that you would literally have to do a 180% to become likeminded with true believers.

Re: What is your favorite book next to the Bible?

Nazarite DNA by Lou Engle
http://christianchat.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=514450

Parashah has special meaning this year for B'nai Amoona rabbi

Surprisingly, studying with Noa produced an unexpected and unanticipated attendant benefit. It provided me with an opportunity to reconsider anew the Nazarite paradigm and how this obviously "God intoxicated" individual might inspire greater passion and piety.

As we hear the restrictions associated with the Nazarite's vow (no contact with death; avoidance of products made of grapes; and refraining from hair cutting), we cannot help but be struck by their similarity to those restrictions imposed by the Torah upon members of the Priestly Class - the Kohanim, and especially the High Priest - the Kohen Gadol. As a matter of fact, the self-imposed limitations placed upon those who take the vows of a Nazarite are actually even more strident than those that were to be observed by the ancient Kohanim.

So what are we to make of these Nazraites who voluntarily took these vows of aestheticism upon themselves?

For me, the Nazir serves as a powerful paradigm for post-moderns. Unlike the Kohanim whose holy status is derived from their DNA, their lineage, their Yichus, the Nazarites' sanctified status was a matter of personal choice. In the Nazir, therefore, we have a role model of an individual who yearns so deeply to be in intimate contact with Divinity that s/he accepts upon him/herself greater levels of responsibility; elevated expectations and restrictions. And he/she does so with the singular goal of drawing ever closer to the One, The Source-Of-All.

Joel’s Army: Dominionism, Militancy, & Heresy

April 14, 2009 by pjmiller

Joel’s Army Teachings:
  • They teach the deification of man and deny exclusive deity of God. Proponents of this teaching believe we will be as God and that this army literally BECOMES Christ!
  • They teach and believe in the immortality and glorification of the elect “New Breed” or “Manifested Sons of God” aside from the literal presence of Christ.
  • They believe that scripture is NOT the ONLY source of redemptive truth but rather there is progressive revelation through angelic visitations, dreams, and visions that are discouraged from being examined in the light of scripture.
  • Their agenda is political- they want to take over the world (for Jesus of course) and believe that those in opposition to this should die.

This New Breed is “an elite group of believers endowed with supernatural power that would enable them to be part of the army of “dread warriors” that God was said to be raising up in our generation. According to John Wimber this is a type of “Joel’s Army” who will overcome all opposition to the gospel and eventually subdue the nations. This teaching is part of what is known as “dominion theology” which teaches that an elite army of “overcomers” will either destroy or subdue all the enemies of Christ until they eventually gain power and authority throughout the world. The government of the nations will be upon their shoulders and when all the secular authorities, governments, princes and kings have finally submitted to them, Christ will return and they will present the kingdom to him. (Prophecy Today, Vol. 7, No. 1, England)
  • They believe that they will overcome death (not through Christ).

The last enemy to be conquered is death. Who will conquer it? A mature Church will come forth with the kind of authority and power that will be able to stand in the very face of Satan [“Joel’s Army,” ed.]. When the Church reaches that state of maturity, God will be able to say, “This generation of the Church does not need to die. She has reached a place of maturity. I will translate her because her maturity pleases me.” What was the testimony about Enoch? He pleased God. When the Church becomes so mature that as a Body we achieve the unity of faith, God will find her pleasing and say, “She is mature enough now. She doesn’t have to die…” [“Manifest Sons of God,” Paulk – in “The Wounded Body of Christ”]

Who is being glorified in these teachings? The Church! According to these teachers apostles, and prophets, the Church that is now coming forth and being manifest is the coming Christ we’ve been looking for!! This is not just error it is blasphemy. (from Joel’s Army Now Recruiting – Deception Bytes)

March (2008), at a “Passion for Jesus” conference in Kansas City sponsored by the International House of Prayer, or IHOP, a ministry for teenagers from the heavy metal, punk and goth scenes,

Lou Engle called on his audience for vengeance:

“I believe we’re headed to an Elijah/Jezebel showdown on the Earth, not just in America but all over the globe, and the main warriors will be the prophets of Baal versus the prophets of God, and there will be no middle ground,” ….“There’s an Elijah generation that’s going to be the forerunners for the coming of Jesus, a generation marked not by their niceness but by the intensity of their passion,” …”The kingdom of heaven suffers violence and the violent take it by force. Such force demands an equal response, and Jesus is going to make war on everything that hinders love, with his eyes blazing fire.” (Joel’s Army and The Call)
