If you think a relationship with a great person will probably end badly, do you try to stop yourself from having feelings for them? Can you? Do you take the chance?
 
I was going through something like this recently...a great guy but an unbeliever sadly. I had to stop feeding the fire before it burned the forest. It's not easy but it's possible. If he were a believer, I would certainly take the chance.
 
I don't.

Which in Metaphorical terms means I become hamburger helper if it doesn't work.

The redeeming quality is that I plan well and I usually give it everything I am.
 
I never did before. I believed so strongly in love and relationships. But this past year I have been learning how to shut down. My fear is that at some point I may close myself off to the extent that I can't come back. Can't let that happen.
 
I would resist entering into a relationship. I'd rather he be hurt by my rejection than have his heart broken months later down the line when one or the other ends the relationship for one reason or another.
 
from experience from a bad bad relationship breakup.... dont wait till you are making wedding plans... and too in love with person too get heart broken... really.. i had the wrost heart break ever in my life half a year ago almost and its more painful later when u are like inlove... and really really into each other... really sucks.. so better cut it now then later...

Bring up the optimism! :) We all have flaws, it's inevitable, don't let that keep you from living.
 
I'm a cynical optimist. Meaning I know real life happens, but from pain comes beauty. So no, I won't stop myself. I don't even think I have the power to stop myself because I am an all or nothing person, where one day I just find myself in the field fluttering butterflies. Once there? There is no turning back.

Even if it doesn't turn out the way I wanted it, at least I know I was human for a little bit.
 
There comes a point where love is involuntary and reflexive. When all the things I like them for make me want them more and more, when there is nothing else I want to do but, spend all day dreaming of you, that is when I go crazy. There is only two conditions under which I can be freed, one is a realization of all that I hold dear to come true and the other is something I try not to imagine, even on bad days.
 
I'm kinda numb right now, but in spite of all of my resistence, I know the God I serve. And I know He has awesome surprises for all of us. I'm well aware that He's probably smiling as I'm typing this knowing that someone is probably gonna knock me offa my feet and there will be nothing I can do but fall. Cos that's the way He designed my heart and I just have to deal with it. It can be my undoing at times, but I far prefer it to apathetic ice.

I think it's a question of challenging fear, by which I mean try and deconstruct it before just giving into it and closing your heart.

People do have tendencies that can lead to repeating mistakes, so the older you get the more likely you are to be faced with a situation that you might have gone into in younger years that now you should stay out of because you can see the car crash that's coming your way.

I think it's one of the toughest things to master, knowing when to let the past hold you back from something and when to throw it all away and get involved again.
I just think it's important not to set a default on things like this, sometimes it's worth the chance, sometimes it isn't.
