Don't know what that proves, but it was interesting as it could be, and I have to admit I learned of this experiment from a flat earthers talking about the fact you could do this.
The flat earther(s) knew what they were talking about - didn't they? ;) :)

How many hard-core ball earthers do you think have ever lifted a finger to try that experiment themselves?

It proves the ship did not go over a curve; rather, it "disappeared" because of water vapor, dust, etc. in the air.

The 'effect' being seen has more to do with the way we 'see' with our eyes than anything else. Utilizing higher-power magnification caused an "effective" drop in the density of the water vapor, dust, etc. in the air - thereby, allowing you to see further.

You did a good thing by checking it out for yourself. (y)

Listen I don't want any part of this debate. I have never been high enough to see with my own eye's so I'm not 100% sure of any of it honestly, but am so glad you mentioned the boat/horizon thing as evidence. I KNOW this is not true, or there's more to it. I've done this experiment myself and this is something I've seen with my own eyes, and you can too. You can watch a boat go "over the horizon edge", over the "curve", then grab a pare of binoculars and see it again, you can then watch the same thing in the binoculars and watch it go "over" the edge and grab a more powerful scope and find it again. The effect of the boat going "over the curve" is an optical illusion, at least as far as my most powerful telescope could track it. I watched it go "over the edge" twice and found it twice. Don't know what that proves, but it was interesting as it could be, and I have to admit I learned of this experiment from a flat earthers talking about the fact you could do this.

And that's why concave hollow earth is the best model.

Test the model with planes, stars, ships, and telescopes, it holds up to any test you want. Although, you will have to conclude NASA is fibbing, but that's for everyone to decide.

There. Now everybody is happy.

I knew this was coming.

I'm no expert either. I grew up learning ball earth in school and assumed what I was learning was correct. I'm not opposed to considering anything. But, like most who learned as I have, I find the explanations reasonable and plausible. So when something different comes along, as I'm considering whether to accept it, reject it, or consider it further, I often require more information.
And thanks for sharing.
Ball earth is so obvious that only the tin foil hat brigade reject it. Ask any pilot, navigator, long distance route planner, cartographer, sailor or surveyor. They don't have to speculate. They live in the real world and have to deal with the physical earth as it exists, not in the la-la land of FE imagination. It is a sign of the last days that people are so closed off to the truth.

There was a time they were considered right and your view could have gotten you killed.

Sure, but they did not have access to the same information that we have today. Catholicism is dead religion. You cross the religious at your peril. Hasidic Jews are little better than Muslims when it comes to hatred of Christians. The catholic organisation does not represent all catholics, but I'm glad that organisation no longer controls the world as it once did. Unless you live in Mexico..........

Sure, but they did not have access to the same information that we have today. This is the 21st century. Even the Greeks in 300 BC knew that the earth was a globe. Every mariner had seen the curvature of the earth. I'm not against healthy scepticism. I am against calling everyone who testifies that the earth is a globe a liar. Especially when those people have the seen the earth from space and those (like me) who have traveled a good deal of the earth. In a court of law, something must be proven beyond resonable doubt. For all you know, I could be a space monster who eats children for a snack. You cannot prove otherwise so you have to exercise some common sense based discernment. Such common sense and discernment is absent from FE people.

Having spent 3-1/2 years on a warship, I can assure you that I have seen the phenomena of the curvature of the earth. Your reasoning is specious. I was involved in Radar and communications. There is a reason why microwave aerials are mounted as high as possible. Microwaves are line of sight so the higher the aerial, the further away the effective horizon. You have proven nothing except how ridiculous flat earth "logic" is.

If the earth was flat, you could grab a high powered telescope and see the coast of Japan from the coast of China. Or Taiwan from China for that matter. You cannot. The reason is the curvature of the earth.
