We are to imitate Jesus. Jesus' own baptism is a prime example of the necessity to be immersed in baptism. One has to have gone under the water in order to come up out of the water.

Mark 1:9-10
And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.
And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:
If I go knee-deep into the river and then back out, am I "coming up out of the water?" Yes, yes I am.

At the risk of joining another senseless debate, exactly how much water is required to make one meet to enter the presence of God? How much is required to cleanse us of all unrighteousness? If you are going to wash, I suggest you throw in a haircut and shave as well.

There's no biblical proof that John was baptizing by immersion.
These two gospel count specifically state that Jesus came up out of the water.

Matthew 3:13-17

13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Mark 1:9–11

9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.

10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:

11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

What matters I think is have you received the holy Spirit since you believed. Luke 11 13.. we love to believe John 3 16. If GOD spoke Luke 11 13.. I don't know.. I want EVERYTHING He gives.

baptizō
bap-tid'-zo
From a derivative of G911; to make whelmed (that is, fully wet); used only (in the New Testament) of ceremonial ablution, especially (technically) of the ordinance of Christian baptism: - baptist, baptize, wash.

Baptism is to be done by full immersion in water.

We are wholly immersed in the Spirit so why would we not be wholly immersed in water.

We do not do things half way when living for the Lord like when we are to be Christlike there is no half way about it but you are to be wholly Christlike.

Wholly immersed in water.

Wholly immersed in the Holy Spirit.

Wholly holy.

Wholly study the word of God.

Wholly worship the Lord.

Wholly deny the ways of the world.

There is no half way living for the Lord because half does not cut it for even the evil know to do good.

Nothing there says immersion.

Why are you looking for an argument? What is broken within you that you need such affirmation?
I am certainly not looking for an argument, I don't need any kind of affirmation. There are a number of Biblical teachings (like grace, security, the Holy Spirit, the church, etc.) of which one lacking understanding lends oneself to other teaching that will not be understood. But if one gains understanding of these foundational teachings, then one may build onto them other teachings that may be understood.

In other words, if one understands that the Holy Spirit does not baptize anyone, one may better understand exactly what did happen on the day of Pentecost, etc. But if one doesn't understand this, they are not likely to understanding other teaching about the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit has NEVER baptized anyone.

Matthew 3:11 – “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost ...”

Mark 1:8 – “I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.”

Luke 3:16 – John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost ...”

John 1:33 – “And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.”

Acts 1:5 – “For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.”

When John the Baptist was baptizing in Jordan, was John doing the baptizing, or was the water doing the baptizing?
Of course John was! The water was simply what John immersed the candidate with/in. The water didn't do the immersing. John immersed the candidate with/in the water.

When Pentecost was come, Jesus immersed His church in Holy Spirit Power! Jesus did the baptizing, not the Holy Spirit. The Spirit (Power of God) is simply what Jesus immersed the church with/in. The Holy Spirit didn't do the baptizing. Jesus baptized His church with/in the Holy Spirit.

"Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding." (Proverbs 4:7)
can I ask why you left out "and with fire" and instead opted for the use of the ellipsis in Matthew 3:11 and Luke 3:16? I've never seen nor heard of any instances where anyone sees a fire and attempts to go into nor attempt to take anyone into it to be baptized.

I didn't believe it was pertinent to the thread topic. I personally believe it is a reference to judgement (to come).

Thanks for obliging my question, that may well be the case. However, that tongues of fire settled on each apostle at Pentecost gives me pause to leave open that interpretation.

Acts 2:3 states, "And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them."
Cloven tongues (divided languages) rested on all present, not just the apostles. The "divided languages" looked in appearance like fire, but no actual fire was present. Just as there was no wind, but a sound as of a rushing mighty wind.

As often happens with two that do not agree, it's difficult to walk together as long as their tendency to talk past each other persists. I had thought for a minute we might've been walking in step but now I'm not even sure we're on the same train.

Maybe not, but the thread topic has nothing to do with the fire.
