For those who are wondering, this is not revisionist history. It is a very detailed description of the people and events leading up to and following the Pilgrims colony . I have read and listened to different accounts from various historians over the years. This is one of the most interesting.

Saints and Strangers was very well done also, based on the journals of William Bradford .:)

That looks like a high end production.
I will watch that starting tonight.
Thank you.
You are welcome! I watched it on Netflix a while ago, but it does not seem to be available there any more...

PS:. I was wondering if the wildfires from the summer are finally out?
We haven't heard anything lately from your neck of the woods and didn't know if we should keep praying for rain?

Yes, I believe they are mostly out now, as cooler weather reduces risk, and it is freezing cold, or close to it, over night...

BC's 2023 wildfire season is officially the most expensive and most destructive on record (I'm assuming that's for BC only).

I found this post from a couple of years ago (re: Thanksgiving):

That sounds very interesting! Thank you :)

Recently I watched Netflix's "Saints and Strangers," based on the journals of William Bradford, who arrived in America on the Mayflower in 1620, and was the governor of the settlement at Plymouth for more than thirty years. Unlike many others, his dealings with the indigenous peoples was largely honorable and above reproach. As a Puritan separatist, he had previously left England in 1607 due to religious persecution, since he believed the Church of England ought to eliminate all vestiges of Roman Catholic practices, and that this would result in a purer Christian church. Unfortunately to this day, we see evidence of these vestiges.

PS~ if you have not seen "Saints and Strangers," I highly recommend it :)

Good to hear that. I never heard of such a long lasting fire except coming out of some mines in West Virginia where they can't smother them for some reason.

I've been in BC for well over forty years now, and the last few years just keep getting worse and worse. This past summer while my daughter and her aunt and their two dogs were holidaying for almost three weeks around the province (as they have done for the last number of years), they kept arriving in places that had the worst air quality for all of Canada that day, due to the fires that they had hoped to avoid...

And thank you for asking! I know "climate change" is one of those topics that gets bandied about, and made fun of, but certain things are intensifying, and as far as the warming part of global warming, people seem to miss the fact that it is the polar areas that are warming, with lots of ice melt, glaciers receding, Greenland's permafrost melting, and all that affecting the ocean currents etc, which largely drive the weather. I watched a show on Netflix recently called Chasing Coral - it is tragic what has been happening the last number of years with their mass bleaching events due to rising ocean temperatures. Corals are so beautiful and complex and amazing! They could be thousands of years old and now... ugh. Anyways, my apologies for the tangent LOL. I hope you enjoy the show! It really is very well done, and clocks in at just over three hours long .:D

Could I have the truth in a nutshell please....?

Is this about the Manifest Destiny or something.

Please tell me the mormons are wrong and Jesus did NOT go to set up a temple in Salt Lake City driving the Native Americans out and setting up a white brotherhood with Ancient reformed Egyptian spying stones.

I don't know where you got the idea that it was about the fake history of the Moron Joseph Smith?

I don't know what church Bill Federer attends, if any. I've listened to a lot of classes and interviews from historians who taught history of the early colonies. This just seems like one of the better ones. Sorry, but he goes fast and only scratches the surface. It is a nutshell as far as history of the group leading up to the first settlement.
I can post a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special that fits into a Peanut shell! 😉

Since you mentioned the Mormon's view on American history, I'll give you this. It was written and produced by a Baptist though.

I can't bring myself to watch a nearly hour long video... but I'm a descendant of William Brewster so I hope the video content is somewhat kind to the Pilgrims. I know they tried a socialist system in the beginning and quickly discovered that that just didn't work because a few ended up doing all the work while the rest were happy to have everything in common... what there was of it that first winter.

You are correct. It took them one year to learn that lesson... the hard way.

hmm well there seems to be no going back after Theocracy failed in Europe.

Communism only works in the short term and Capitalism only serves to make the rich richer and the poor poorer, as for democracy, we have a long way to go to universal suffrage where everyone including cats and dogs get to vote.

Republics are great for benelovent dictators though. Everyone wants to join the club of Rome. Except the Native Americans were not interested and have their own club.
Now if people could actually speak the indigenous languages, there might be some understanding but as far as I know, nothing about it is ever taught in any school in America.

The thread title caught my attention.

‘The Real Truth…’.

What other kind(s) of truth is (are) there? Inquiring minds want to know.

The only thing about Communism that works is reducing the population.

These days that is a dangerous question. "Personal truth" is currently a really popular phrase.

There's my truth and your truth and Republican truth and Democrat truth and my dog's truth and the truth according to this version of the Bible I just made... And all these truths are equally valid and should be respected the same.

Sadly, that’s the truth.
