this is really really simple:
Daniel 9
24Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
25Know therefore and understand,
that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince
shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
26And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof
shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
27And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make
it desolate, even until
the consummation, and that
determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

the destruction of Jerusalem in 70AD was not intended to be portrayed as being performed WITHIN the 70 weeks.
the actual desolation, or destruction followed WITHIN THAT VERY LIVING GENERATION exactly as foretold by Jesus, less than 40 years (a generation) LATER: in 70AD
Matthew 24:2
"Do you see all these things?" he asked. "I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down." (the decree ABOUT the desolation)
the DECREE or PROPHECY Jesus declared AGAINST her WAS made within the 70 weeks - the 70th.
Luke 19:44
Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem
41And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, 42saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. 43For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side 44and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”
less than 40 years later, in 70AD IT CAME TO PASS....DESOLATE
