About 20 or 25 years ago (I think it was around 1997), I even got a reply from Richard Carrier himself in his Internet Infidels site. I hadn't heard of him at the time, but in retrospect, I think it's interesting to have gotten a reply from someone so notable. I can't find it now, but it was about free will; I pointed out the inconsistency between determinism and free will, and his reply was basically that he was a compatibilist and that the ability to have chosen otherwise isn't a requirement for free will.

Wondering if there are any pirates navigating the apologetic seas, fighting for the gospel. ?:) You know who you are! I'm a happy 46F single pirate who does not have a mate yet. I'd sure love to find someone who would happily pillage and get into all sort of piratey type adventures together. If this appeals to you, as a friend, mate or even foe, please feel free to send me a message, I would love to connect!
I just thought that someone so bold as a pirate, "fighting for the gospel", would like to briefly explain what you believe the gospel is?

No kidding! Equating Christian apologetics with violent law breaking murderers and thieves!

:unsure:o_O:oops:o_O:unsure:
I have to Agree with Magenta, the Bible calls this 'strange fire', trying to use something from the world that is not from or about God to be about and for God. God rejects this and it's unacceptable to Him. Let be mature in Christ and not children.
It took me years to learn this...example: I couldn't take a secular song and use it to 'Praise God' with...God doesn't accept this. Where something comes from means something.

What do you believe is required to be saved?
Jesus, fire in the belly, and lots a' cannonballs!!!!!

Jude 1:3
“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”

Ephesians 6:
14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Here's a collection from my childhood.

I was into pirates and sword fighting from an early age. This one has a button hidden under his shirt. Press his side and he swings the cutlass or throws a knife.

Later I was honored to get training from the best swordsmen in my state.
The top Filipino fighter traveled from the Philippines and established schools in America.
His senior student in this region was my teacher for many years. We loved to spend time training from Professor Remy Presas.
Since the topic is pirates and our guess walked the plank, I was reminded of the topic. I should get those peg legs out of storage and put them on my book shelves to guard the library.

I was just reminded of this pirate thread when I listened to this awesome poem by Robert E. Howard. Solomon Kane is his Puritan character who is not such the pacifist, but one armed to the hilt and ready to defend those in need. I'm posting it here because someone else is likely to enjoy it or perhaps in the songs/ poetry thread.

Man, I dig this. I wish you the best in this! This was clever and a little gutsy.

I used to debate apologetics online, but I haven't been as interested in it in a while. Maybe it's because the tone of the Internet seems to me to have become more hostile and combative, so conversations are more likely to devolve into insults. Perhaps it's also because of the circuitous nature of apologetics and debates at times, with so many subthreads and uncertainties on certain topics. It's probably also because I have a family and more commitments now and I don't feel quite as energetic in this regard as I used to. However, if you know of any good places to debate where people are reasonably civil and truly open-minded, I might be interested.
Online debates wind up taking up way too much time, and since human pride becomes a factor, the discussions are derailed and become a waste of time.

I will challenge and debate, but at some point, convince them or fail to convince them or fail to be convinced, I let them have the last word and move on.
