Well lately the forums have been in general very boring,in my perspective. There used to be a bunch of philosophical and interesting topics but now there's just threads about the bible, a few games, and I've just posted in a sesame street thread ...ugh. So now to mix things up I'm gradually becoming offensive and more open on expressing my beliefs (I'm an atheist) I know, I know. "What is an atheist doing in an christian chat room?" I'm not sure but I think I'm curious about how christians' think. It's very perplexing to me. Anyways, if I continue in this state I'll eventually get banned and I dont want to lose my aquaintences and friends(according to my profile). So I need help. Not sure how you'll respond to this but that's the beauty of it. Who knows, maybe no one will respond and this thread will die and go to the thread graveyard where few threads ever escape.

I agree. I mean things have gotten slow and not very stimulating lately. I think its because of the summer..people would rather be out doing things.

You won't get banned for being atheist or expressing atheist beliefs. As long as you don't start namecalling or using foul language you should be ok I think.

Maybe you should start some threads with questions you want to ask Christians, like "why do you believe God is real" or whatever. It could help spice things up a bit. :)

I for one, am in the opinion that feeding trolls is not a wise idea.

I've not found him to be troll. He has said his beliefs in a respectful manner which is far better than what a few posters do than many like to engage with. I think the definition of troll has gotten off skew.

Billy, here is what you question. I don't believe anything is by accident. What are your beliefs on that and how do they relate to why you are here?

Yeah I would start a new thread but many people here don't know how to particpate in a debate/arguement. They get way too emotional which results in people attacking each other like politicians. BTW, I appreciate your understanding.

I don't feel like sharing my views at the moment. I'm just interested in the responses on how people feel about this thread.

Well, you said you didn't know how people would respond, and so they did. But if you aren't going to answer questions, that kinda shuts off the dialogue.

I agree with AFF that Billy has not been disrespectful that I have seen.

I would be interested in learning why Billy is here and why he is an atheist. It would be cool if we could keep this at an adult level.

I can't see how atheist equals troll anymore than some folks think christian equals troll. Though I have to admit to having sung Christmas carols in an atheist chat room before and that probably qualifies as trolling to some folks. :o

Okay I'm going to make this short. I'm an atheist who denies the existance of God. I've never witnessed or experienced anything supernatural so I assume that it doesn't exist. The Bible (especially the old testament) seems mythological. In this universe with billions of galaxies that contain billions of stars we seem to be insignificant in the grand scheme of things. I don't know exactly how the universe started but it seems more logical to me that it was randomly created with no purpose because I don't why God or some supreme entity would leave all this empty space devoid of life. I can't have faith in ideas that seem illogical to the things I see and know. And that's it.

These are the thoughts that keep me up at nights.

When I consider the universe and the order thereof, it has the exact opposite effect. I can't imagine any of it to be happenstance. I read the Bible as a whole the same way. There are far too many parallels and validations for me to believe in happenstance. It outlines a God of order. A God who would create such a universe.

Just because we can't see other life (or can't yet see it) in the universe, does that mean it isn't there? A woman conceives a child and gives birth to this amazing being who learns at an astounding rate, bonds with the mother's heart.... Our loving parents and grandparents, with all of their wisdom, die. How does such a thing come from nothing and return to nothing? Would this not be more wasteful than a bunch of planets we can see that may or may not hold life we can't see? Or serve some purpose beyond our current comprehension?

I don't normally use personal experience in matters of biblical discussion, but because I believe you are truly seeking, I would ask you from a sincere heart whether you have ever sat down and read the Bible from the index to the maps? I ask because this is what it took for me to understand that it's alive. And it totally changed my life and everything I thought I knew.

I understand what you are saying, because there is something very satisfying with holding something in our hands and knowing "this is real".

I do think any amount of "convincing" will be able to get you to the point that we are at, on the other side where we believe in something we can see and you don't. And that is ok. I get that. All I can say is, life is more that we can see. When we "fall in love", we can't see that, but we sure feel it. That is how God is. Maybe you haven't experience it yet, but you are young. How do you know you never will?

Life is about learning and gaining knowledge. Not all learning is in books. Not all we can know is available in this realm.

Well now you have a thread all about yourself to make you feel alllllll special!

If you want more inteliigent things to talk about and the other members here aren't doing much for ya then why not create a veiw threads of your own that are rather intelligent?

Okay I'm going to make this short. I'm an atheist who denies the existance of God.
To do so would require you to be capable of knowing all things logically possible to know. This is one of the attributes of God. Thus, denying God on such a basis would be creating a God on that basis.

I've never witnessed or experienced anything supernatural so I assume that it doesn't exist.

Close to a False Dilemna Logical Fallacy, however, this I won't push.

The Bible (especially the old testament) seems mythological.
Only to the Scientific Naturalist.

In this universe with billions of galaxies that contain billions of stars we seem to be insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
Without a God, we are insignificant. Without a God, there are no Objective morals, no Objective meaning to life, no Objective value to life. The suffering we encounter is just pointless unredeeming suffering, in an indifferent amoral universe.

I don't know exactly how the universe started but it seems more logical to me that it was randomly created with no purpose because I don't why God or some supreme entity would leave all this empty space devoid of life.

1) That which begins to exist, requires a cause
2) The Universe began to exist
3) Follows from 1) and 2), that the universe requires a cause
4) That cause must be an uncaused first case, that is timeless, spaceless, immaterial, and a mind/attaining personhood. (I.E. God)

The atheist has really only two options. The atheist must deny one of the two premises. (4 is just expounding upon 3) )

You either deny that things which begin to exist require a cause, thus becoming a man of faith, or that he universe began to exist, thus, making you a man of faith.

I can't have faith in ideas that seem illogical to the things I see and know.
Logic isn't a matter of perception, this would make it subjective and leave the realm of logic and reason.

If you're interested, the existance of Laws of Logic (Logical absolutes) presupposes the existance of God.

And that's it.
Was hoping for something high grade.

Atheists are drawn to Christian forums on the internet like flies to honey.

jimmydiggs I do not mean to offend you but I really don't feel the love from you. Whenever I read a post that you've made I've always feet like you're judging those who don't believe what you do or don't act the way you see fit. Maybe I've just had a bad sampling of your posts because you have a high rep power but still

AHH I think I understand EXACTLY what you are talking about this is what is called a matter of faith my friend. For example people will say if there is a God then why do we have all these wars or why was my child taken from me in that accident or why did the tornado pick my house to blow down and not my neighbours.
WELL.... its like this wars are always caused by one group who wish to have what their neighbour has and more I.E. covetousness which by the way comes along with a curse because now that you have either killed or subjectgated your neighbour to your will it is not their will to be subjectgated and eventually their descendants will rise up and kill or subjectgate yours and the cycle continues generation after generation and even if you wipe out your enemies the foundation that you have founded your empire on is all about the self not the group as a whole so it is doomed before it even gets started because the people who will be running the empire you have created will be then once again more worried about the self or maintaining their position that they have attained than the stae as a whole I could quote lots of scripture from the bible to support these ideas but seeing as you are an atheist I will not as you would probably disregard it as over zealouse religous crackpottery so I will continue with a more logical doctrine that you may be more comfortable with "The language of the mind" In the case of the unfortunate or unexpected death of a loved one lets just say for sake of argument that your whole life was spent in absolute darkness years of it then one day you see a light a far distance off would you know what it was? Probably not and lets say that your curiousity got the better of you and you went to go see it and when you got there you found it that it was the most amazing thing that you had ever seen and you never wanted to leave. NOW lets look at the before and after when you had never seen the light and all you knew was darkness and everything you thought your happiness was derived from darkness you most certainly would have rejected the light but after you found the light you could not understand how you ever got along without it in fact you probably would never wish to be in the darkness again for it is only through tribulation and suffering that patience and understanding and wisdom come from kind of like smeltering down metal the good stuff is whats left after you remove the slag how would you know good if you had never known evil to begin with but men delight in evil very very much just take a look around you at the world at your fingertips the modern media is full of it and so far as the weather is concerned I have only heard of one man who ever controlled that in any religous text be it christian jewish hindu buddist taoist or daoist and that is Jesus of Nazareth that is why it is called a matter of faith I know that first step is a real doozy but it is like those self powering weekends you here about and all your mates are around you and the instructor says now fall and your friends will catch you well with Jesus he really will catch you if you ask and I should know

I was once just like you a self proclaimed atheist believing in nothing but himself and the natural world around him

If your up for it read the entire book of Revelations then go to youtube and click on end game by alex jones if the content doesn't shake you then perhaps the many many corallations between what is happening today and a book that was written almost 2000 years ago will try it out you might be surprised

Peace and love man
its all we need
