Elizabeth, I wasnt at all offended by being southern , or ppl pokin fun even, as you know thats a way of life here, as for disrupting the thread, threads get hi-jacked and disrupted every 5 minutes here, and like EVERYONE else, here I have freedom of speech too unless its not ok for me to say whats on my mind , seeing as how its done everyday . I believe in the gifts in the spirit I believe they are for today , I was raised church of God/ Pentecostal, yet I dont go around shoving my walk down everyones throat, I wouldnt dare tell a calvanist they were wrong, or mock something I didnt understand, I wouldnt dare do that to any denomination, simply because its not my place. You didnt offend me, we may not agree on alot, but I dont with alot of ppl here whom I dearly respect and have become close to, if one wants to go around " mocking"- rebuking , Whatever, thats between them and God, but when I feel something is out of line, Ill say so. Sorry if it happened to be here, but, hey its no different thanany other thread of late....I just didnt want you to think it was directed towards you, and its east TN btw , Howdy neighbor.

I have a prophesy.

To all the prophets.

If you do not stop your bull and read the bible and stop acting foolish then you are BIG trouble with the big guy upstairs.

The end.
mmm......

just because there are false prophets does not mean that there are not True ones and to imply that all prophets do NOT read their Bible might be viewed as offensive to some.

just sayin'

i'm still a continuist by the way. just because most of the world is full of people claiming to be raised up in the office of the Holy spirit does not mean they speak truth, but that does not mean there are not people who God raises up in full endowment of His gifts, His offices for the maturity and comfort of His saints....

Romans 12

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. 4 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7 or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8 he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

1 Corinthians 12

Spiritual Gifts: Unity in Diversity

1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: 2 You know that[a] you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. 3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.
4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
Unity and Diversity in One Body

12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into[c] one Spirit. 14 For in fact the body is not one member but many.
15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? 18 But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. 19 And if they were all one member, where would the body be?
20 But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. 21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. 23 And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, 24 but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, 25 that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. 26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.
27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. 28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.

they can be recognized by the Fruits of the Spirit and by the Testimony of the HOLY Spirit in the hearts of believers....

well, being a continuationist means one might feel insulted when cessationists express their own reading of the word and the offices of Pentecost.
same as we cessationists take barrages of flak every day.

its just the way it rolls....this is a divisive issue in the church, and will remain so.

I understand where you are coming from, and even i have been "offended" by people who say certain things, but I have also learned that some people like to throw things in others faces. Like the gifts of the HS. I have been told that I have no faith in God because I don't believe in gifts. Well, I don't know how THAT is even a Christian mentality to tell that to another person because they believe differently.

If someone believes in the gifts then that is their choice. I don't agree with them but that does not mean I reject God. It means I see things differently. It does not make me less of a Christian. So I can see how you came across offended. I get offended by many too. You don't throw your beliefs in others faces though. I think a few on here could follow your example on that one!

Hey Ma I went to a church of God concert the other day with my husband's Nana :)

it was cool :) and there are actually a lot of continuist on cc though they are more like you and less likely to post ;)

they avoid contention and such....there are threads and polls about spiritual gifts and quite a few people have responded they believe, just as a word of encouragement.

Ya can't learn if ya don't ask questions.

I am Church of Christ. I am used to ALOT being said about my beliefs.

In a place like this I don't care too much about others views on my beliefs beause normally they are misguided. CoC is not bad. Some choose to think that though. Their choice.

when you start going to different denominational services and actually making friends with the people and talking to them about Jesus there is more in common in the different beliefs of the people and the common spirit shared by all then the differences. At least that is what I have found.

the Vacation Bible school the kids attended was held at a Church of Christ building and done by three different churches, on was a Southern Baptist church and the third was Church of God I think.

Everyone worked together to make it a memorial week for the children from all the congregation. I'm still trying to understand what everyone is talking about concerning "divisions of the church"

most of the churches I've attended have jointly worked with other churches in lots of community projects in unity of Spirit and the Love of Christ in order to be lights to the community we live in......

lol sorry Beth I'm monologing ;)

good thread!!!

FEELINGS? YUCK.
because of the fall, our hearts (minds) don't work the way they should:rolleyes:
can't be trusted...icky stuff in there.

but, God is so good, First He sent His Son to teach and live and die and rise again, then He gave us the Bible AND The Holy Spirit....AMEN!

now we don't have to listen to voices inside us:rolleyes:, or believe our feelings.

we can look to Him Who is outside of us, on the Throne, Our Lord, and love Him and learn of Him by the pledge, our gifts of faith by Grace through the Holy Spirit. who works and lives in us to testify of Jesus.

feelings? meh.....waaaaaaay over-rated. but if you get a feeling like you need to find a restroom thats good to listen to, also if you feel like baking a cake that would be okay too.

spent 40 years running around based on feelings..... nope: now i got THE BIBLE and the churchies:D and the Seal.

and my MP3 player...and creme soda.

and licorice.

bye beth:D

and my kitty.

and i feel fine.

thanks beth.
Yep, I agree. Feeling's are way overrated.
