Some of the weeks in the old testament had 8 days, so it had 2 sabbaths. Their month started on the first light of the new moon(when the first sliver of moon appears in the west after sunset) and they counted the days starting and ending in the afternoon until the next sliver of the new moon so some months had 29 days and the last would be counted as the 8th day of the last week. Just thought I'd through that in there.

Show me scripture anywhere supporting two sabbaths. They had many Sabbaths, but they were Annual Sabbaths, God only set one day apart from the rest as our weekly Sabbath.

God only set one day apart from the rest as our weekly Sabbath.
You did not finish the thought. So here it is:
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you. Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. (Exodus 31:12-14)

1. Are you one of the children of Israel?
2. Are you still under the Law of Moses?
3. How many have you put to death for failure to observe the Sabbath?

In Genesis there is the 7th day of rest that the Lord blessed. The next Sabbath we see is the last plague of Eygpt. The Lord said, this shall be the first of the year for you. (paraphrased) and He talks about the seventh day and the night that the death Angel will pass over them when He(the Lord) sees the blood. Haven't got any further than that.

I find it rather telling that all the self-proclaimed Sabbath keepers are violating the Sabbath by arguing about it... on (what they say is) the Sabbath.
Does turning on a computer or computer monitor count as work or it could be a phone? Does it count as starting a fire? I think current orthodox rabbis would say yes. Christians only try to attempt keeping some watered down version of the Sabbath day and often times they have the wrong starting time (midnight or when they wake up) and some think it's Sunday and the command is to go to church instead of being refraining from "work."

I'm carrying some clothes on my body. Does that count as work? It's not wearing me out or anything, but I am carrying something. I need someone to tell me what counts as work and what doesn't. I just woke up, and I feel a #2 coming. Does the paperwork following that count as work? I need to talk to an orthodox rabbi about that. That just sounds awful if they forbid that.

Since we're talking about the Sabbath day, are we going to start keeping the Sabbath year as well?

Mat 3:15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
Yes Jesus did fulfil the law perfectly.
Not to make it void. But to be our example.
Mat 5:17-18
context shows that the law is still unchanged. Not all has been fulfilled and heaven and earth has not passed, so one jot or tittle has not passed from the law.
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Fulfil does not mean make void.
Rom 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

Please show me how the life of Jesus made the moral law void.
Easy to prove.

Jesus fulfilled the moral law, absolutely.

That is the one boast that all Christian should proclaim.

People do not understand the power of that constant confession of our Lord's name.

Jesus is the alpha and the omega of any Christian conversation.

God is in control always and forever.

God created the weekly cycle at Creation and that has never changed. Six days are for work and labors Gen 1 Exo 20:9 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God. Exo 20:10 Gen 2:1-3

God set the example for man right from the beginning of time and nothing has ever changed.

In the New Testament no one lost track of time- the Sabbath was still according to the commandment Luke 23:56

The apostles kept every Sabbath decades after the Cross Acts 13:42-44 Acts 18:4

God alone wrote the Ten Commandments- this is His work- not Moses Exo 32:16 Exo 31:18 after God wrote and spoke the Ten Commandments- He added no more- God is perfect and would be impossible for Him to make a mistake with something He personally engraved- put His stamp on it by writing it with His own finger and contains His seal. God makes no mistakes, man does. God’s law is perfect converting the soul Psa 19:7 and after He wrote and He spoke His holy law He added no more because nothing more could be added to make His holy commandments complete. Exo 5:22 Exo 34:28 Deut 4:13

Jesus tells us no mistake was made for the Sabbath- made for everyone to bless…until He reveals Himself.

Isaiah 56:1 Thus says the Lord:

“Keep justice, and do righteousness,

For My salvation is about to come,
And My righteousness to be revealed.

Blessed is the man who does this,
And the son of man who lays hold on it;
Who keeps from defiling the Sabbath,
And keeps his hand from doing any evil.

6 “Also the sons of the foreigner
Who join themselves to the Lord, to serve Him,
And to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants—
Everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath,
And holds fast My covenant

Let’s not follow the popular path, but follow Jesus and His Teachings. He is the Way and will only lead us on the narrow path back to Him.

The Perpetual Covenant

Exodus 31:13-16 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you. Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

  • The Sabbath is a sign, which is synonymous with mark or Seal.
  • The Sabbath is a perpetual covenant.
  • The Sabbath is to be kept throughout the generations.
  • God was speaking to Israel.
Who is Israel?

1. There is neither Jew nor Greek. All are one in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Colossians 3:11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
2. Gentiles are grafted into Israel.

Romans 11:13, 22-23, 25 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office: If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them. ... Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again. ... For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
3. The apostles taught the Gentiles on the Sabbath. The Gentiles asked to be taught on the next Sabbath. The Gentiles observed the Sabbath.

Acts 13:42, 44 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.
Acts 17:2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
Acts 18:4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

  • The Sabbath was an integral part of the worship service and teaching by the apostles.
  • If Paul kept the Sabbath as was his custom (as his manner was), taught the Sabbath on the Sabbath then he did not contradict himself concerning the Sabbath anywhere in his writings (the verses Christians like to use to dismiss the Sabbath).
  • The Gentiles are Israel and are bound by the perpetual covenant of the Sabbath, to observe it and keep it holy.

The Pointing Backward and Forward

The Creation Account and Jesus' Own Words

Genesis 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Mark 2:27-28 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

  • God rested from creation, not because He needed to, but as an example for man.
  • God blessed and sanctified the seventh day as a day of rest because of creation.
  • Jesus became Lord of the Sabbath because it was made for man.
  • The account of Sabbath rest points back to creation, "And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made."
  • The account of Sabbath rest points forward to perpetuity.
    • Adam and Eve were created and placed in the garden of Eden with access to the tree of life which gives eternal life.
    • God made Adam and Eve on the sixth day, and rested on the seventh.
    • The Sabbath was made for man, which shows us that God rested with Adam and Eve as an example to them.
    • God would later reiterate the Sabbath as a perpetual covenant to Moses.
  • Jesus never relinquished the title of Lord of the Sabbath. In the statement He made He pointed back to creation, when the first Sabbath was observed.
The Law Spoken by God and Written in Stone—Twice!

Exodus 20:8-11 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

  • God points back to creation as the reason He commands that we keep it and the reason He hallowed it.
  • God points forward to perpetuity by telling us to remember what He knew we would forget.
End Time Observance

Matthew 24:20-22 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

  • Jesus points forward. The Sabbath day is being observed in the end time, pointing to its observance at a future time; further solidifying the perpetuity of the Sabbath.
  • Jesus points back to creation, to the beginning of the world.
  • The great tribulation.
    • The great tribulation Jesus is speaking of is on a world scale.
    • Jesus links the Sabbath with the great tribulation ("for").
    • The great tribulation affects all flesh.
    • The Sabbath is binding for all flesh, but the majority won't be keeping it.
The First Angel's Message

Revelation 14:6-7 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

  • Worship is the key issue of the end time.
    • The angel points forward calling for perpetual worship.
      • Fear God and give glory to Him.
      • Why? For the hour of His judgment is come.
      • Worship Him
    • The angel points back to creation as the reason for worship.
      • ...Him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
    • There is only one event in creation that points to worship. The blessed and sanctified seventh day rest, made for man.
The Sabbath in Heaven

Isaiah 66:23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.

  • Isaiah points forward to perpetual osbervance of the Sabbath in the new heaven and new earth.
  • This is the new heaven and new earth being described. Isaiah is not pointing back to creation as the former world has passed.
Does God Change?

Malachi 3:6 For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

  • God doesn't change.
  • Jesus doesn't change.

Conclusion

At no point in time in scripture do we find God's people not observing the Sabbath.
  • The Sabbath is being observed creation to Sinai.
  • The Sabbath is being observed from Sinai to Jesus.
  • The Sabbath is being observed from Jesus to the apostles.
  • The Sabbath is being observed from the apostles to the end time.
  • The Sabbath is being observed from the end time to the new heaven and new earth.
  • The Sabbath is being observed perpetually for eternity in God's kingdom.
Scripture repeatedly points back to creation concerning the Sabbath for a reason. It is the perpetual covenant of God, instituted at creation as a day of worship. It is a sign.

The first angel calls for worship because His judgment is come, and points to creation concerning worship where we find the seventh day rest, the Sabbath of the Lord thy God. None of this is coincidence. The Sabbath is magnified by its link to creation, as a memorial of creation, and the only worship day God commanded to remember, to keep holy.
Amen! Great post!

God set the example for man right from the beginning of time and nothing has ever changed.
Now if perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood (for on this basis the people
received the law), why was there still need for another priest to appear—one in the order of Melchizedek
and not in the order of Aaron? For when the priesthood is changed, the law must be changed as well.

There is no violation of the Sabbath by sharing His Word or reasoning with the scriptures on the Sabbath. It’s one of the way the apostles and His faithful followers kept the Sabbath.

Luke 23:56 Then they returned and prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.

Acts 13:14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down. 15 And after the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, “Men andbrethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.”

Acts 13:42 So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.

Acts 13:44 On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God.

Acts 15:21 For Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city, being read in the synagogues everySabbath.”

Acts 16:13And on the Sabbath day we went out of the city to the riverside, where prayer was customarily made; and we sat down and spoke to the women who met there.

Acts 17:2 Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures,

Acts 18:4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded both Jews and Greeks.

This is what the apostles did on the Sabbath
1. Read the scriptures
2. Prayed
3. Shared the Word of God
4. Preached God's Word
5. Reasoned from the scripture
6. Was in the synagogue- house of worship- what we call church now

Yes, thats why we have Jesus as our High Priest now Heb 7:26-28 so instead of sacrificing animals for sin (breaking God’s law) we can go directly to Jesus. Sin is still the same as it has always been the transgression of God’s law, the Ten Commandments that God wrote and spoke. Exo 31:18 Exo 32:16 1 John 3:4 Romans 7:7 Mat 5:19-30

So despite your claim to the contrary, something has changed.

More to the point: the law has changed.

There are old testament laws set in place with the explicit stated purpose of making the Israelites a holy people (separate and special). The dietary laws are an example of this separate and special practice that Israelites were supposed to follow. It not only includes and excludes certain types of animals, but Jews believe in an oral Torah that includes extra information involving how the animals are slaughtered and prepared. They believe this extra information was given by Moses and passed down orally. It was initially not written down to keep it less significant than the written Torah. After 70 A.D. the Jews were getting persecuted so badly that they decided to write this stuff down in the Mishnah and later expanded on it in the 2 Talmuds.

I once knew a guy who decided to start following the laws in Torah. One day he walked to the house I was in, and I felt the Spirit say to me that he was holy. What he was doing was producing an outward holiness. This is not mandatory for believers in Christ Jesus, though. If you trust in and follow Christ Jesus in the Spirit, then you have an inward, spiritual holiness that matters more than anything else.
