Cheesecake is good too! For 4th of July last year I made red velvet whoopie pies with a cheesecake filling. Very tasty.

I have not tried non gluten crust. Anymore, I've been doing crustless pies to lighten the pie...though my dad insists that pies need a crust. I've even done crustless pecan pie.

Have you tried/do you like non gluten crust?
I never see them or a mix for it.
Crustless sounds the best though.
When the pizza buffet was in town, I'd just make a chef salad, add pizza toppings and throw away the crust. I avoid health challenges that way. That was delicious.
When I occasionally make a pizza for myself, Ive liked the thin rice sheets that you fry in coconut oil first. They get crisp.
I never had whoopie pies though, but will likely dream of food shortly. 😆

Tonight was meatloaf (grass fed beef, custom butchered, I buy a whole cow at a time), roasted cabbage till the edges are black (soooo...yummy), salad with avocado mixed in.

I made a carrot crust pizza one time. I've been eyeing a pizza bowl recipe that I'll probably make at some point. It's basically pizza toppings in a bowl. I like "bowl" recipes, one of my favorites I make often is Philly Cheesesteak Bowl.

I've made quite a variety of whoopie pies. I'm a big whoopie pie fan. I blame my dad. He gave me some Amish pumpkin whoopie pies a long time ago and I've been hooked ever since. I hope you have some smashing dreams!

Here's some zucchini whoopie pies I made from scratch... zucchini whoopie pies.jpg

Dinner out at the steakhouse today. Chicken fried steak meal. There was a side salad, but it's not in the pic. GEDC0430.JPG

I never heard of a carrot crust pizza.
Sounds delicious!
My Mom used to make me a carrot cake for my birthday, so I know it must be good.
Having coffee right now. I could use a whoopie pie with it right now, zucchini whoopie pie. Yummy!

I hadn't heard of carrot crust pizza either. I just kept seeing all the stuff online about cauliflower crust pizza (which, btw, my dad says tastes like a wet dish cloth lol) and I thought to myself, "Why not carrot crust?"

Carrot cake is a favorite, except I don't tend to do mine the traditional way - I don't put nuts and raisins in mine. Speaking of carrot cake and whoopie pies, how about carrot cake whoopie? Homemade by me, of course... (there should be laws against these things!)

Lol.
Looks too good to be true!
That's amazing that you came up with your own recipe for this.
Where did you learn to bake these desserts?

LoL, all the whoopies pies I've made have been quite tasty. I think my favorite is gingerbread whoopie pies. When I was young I didn't care for gingerbread. I thought it was something old that people liked. I guess now I'm "old people."

My only explanation for my abilities is it must be a blessing from the Lord. I really wasn't taught by anyone. It's just something I took to.

This brought to mind people in the country who hang fish heads on their fence posts. My grandmother would have never done this though. After she cleaned all the catfish she caught, she'd took the bucket of remains and dumped them on down the creek. Her logic was that the turtles would feast on the remains and leave her trotlines alone.

😄

That makes a lot of sense.
Your grandmother was a smart and virtuous woman.
AND she made the turtles happy too!

Smashing! Turtles are cute. But, yikes, I shouldn't talk about what she'd do if one got on her line. I've eaten softshell turtle meat!

I didn't personal care for it. I am not sure how to describe the taste exactly, just that it was pungent.
The best tasting thing we'd catch was gar. However, gar has razor sharp teeth and they are pain to clean.
Gar are scary looking.
They are the kind of fish that some would look at and think.twice about swimming in the river.

I caught a.huge white softshell and released it after using it for ministry and wildlife education for a season. I'm a fan of all turtles. I raised an African Leopard Tortoise who was my favorite. He was twice the size of this one. I guess I'm posting him in the wrong forum since this is about dinner...unless I talk about his dinner.

I love it! Turtles are great. I enjoy seeing them and I don't think they should be eaten.

When I was still a child, I went to a big sand bar in the Sand Creek out in the Osage. I found this beautiful large pond sized pool of water in the middle of the sandbar. So, I went for a nice swim. After I got out of the water, I looked back to admire the scenery and noticed a very large gar was now swimming where I had just been swimming. But, as my grandmother always told me about everything, "Ohhh, it ain't gonna hurt ya'"

Btw, I think it's smashing that you use wildlife for ministry!

To keep with the dinner theme. Here's some dinner. Teriyaki bowl (made with ground turkey, no turtles harmed)....

Thanks for the disclaimer that no turtles were harmed in the making of your dinner. 😄
Since we were kids, we'd pull over and help them across the roads. There's lots of ponds around here. I'd hear of all the snapping turtle dinners and think to myself of how many years it took for them to get that size. Some live to be a century and have lived through lots of history only to end up on someone's plate for one meager meal. So, even though I'd eat them if starving, I thought that there's lots of animals better suited for food. Turkey is certainly one of them. BTW, that looks delicious!

Is your grandmother still alive?

The reason I asked is.....
This goes out from the Turtles to your grandmother on catfish day.

You must have read my mind, I was thinking about that song when I watched the turtle video you included above!

My grandmother is no longer alive. She was a tough woman. I don't remember her being scared of anything. One time when she was unlocking the boat to check the trotlines, a copperhead that was hiding under the boat bit her. She wanted to go ahead and check the trotlines, but my mother made her go to ER. They fixed her up and told her to take some time off. She was busy tending her bar the very next day and it wasn't very long before she was back out baiting her trotlines. Very hard headed (I may take after her in this respect lol).

I agree with you about turtles! There is a huge alligator snapping turtle in the aquarium here that is over 120 years old. Incredible critters.

No WAY! 😆
The same song came to mind at first. Lol

I used to have an alligator snapper too.
They are my favorite freshwater turtle.
They look like little dinosaurs.

Mine was like this and grabbed my hand once. The kids loved Festus.
Guess what? He'd like your turkey dinner too.
Here's once crunching on a raw turkey bone.
