Any builders on this thread, or know anything about building? What causes cracks in gyprock along the cornice inside. Is it hot weather? Just noticed a crack in it has gotten much bigger. Does anyone know about this sort of thing?
Hey Ruby, :p

IMO, when cracks appear like that it is because the foundation is "settling." Meaning, the foundation is sitting on ground that is shifting or settling causing the house to shift, and the cracks are a result of that shifting, There are companies that can repair the damage and "level" your foundation to prevent further damage.

God bless

Poor foundations or poor workmen? I'm not a builder, but am aware cracks are more common in Au houses, and especially newer houses, compared to rest of world. In Au, foundations are often not left to settle very long. Have you had any events that could have caused the crack? If not, I'd just seal it and hope it goes away. But if it comes back, you might need to reassess. Sometimes, a crack will come back 2 or 3 times. Sometimes, they just keep returning. Haven't yet been in a house where roof fell on my head, but I'm sure it's happened to someone, he just didn't survive to give advice on this thread... :)

Hi Rubs,

I agree it could be the foundation. Go and have a look at the outside of the building and you will see if it is the foundation that moved.

The other thing can be water damage (because it is along the cornice) or the expansion joint wasn't sealed properly and now it cracks from the heat and cooling down.

There is a new TV Show being advertised about Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. I see it on Prime, but I believe it will show on Hulu and Disney. Reason I mention it is because from what I can see, this Show presents the idea that King Jr. and Malcolm X conspired to attack racism in America. King Jr. to promote peaceful change, and Malcolm X to promote change by whatever means necessary, including violence.

IF this is really true, then, my question is: "Does that lessen our image of King Jr.?" If he was only preaching peaceful demonstrations as part of a plan he and Malcolm X had, does that lessen his desire for peaceful change?

I do not know. This is the first time I have ever heard of such a conspiracy, or even a relationship between the two. Thoughts?

It usually occurs when the framing structure of the house "moves", "sags", "settles", etc.

If hot-enough weather caused sufficient expansion at the "right" place in the framing structure of the house - yes, it would certainly be possible...

If any part of the foundation shifts in any direction - especially down (if it sinks) - it could affect the framing structure.

Gandy knew it would just be a matter of time before Ruby started giving his coffee positive reviews...

;)

:coffee:
Thanks Gary for info.
I have given Gandy a positive review of his coffee before. I said if we ever ran out of petrol or Putin stops supplying it to us, we could use his Gandy brew instead as petrol lol.

Here's a cake for the info

What? Is this a song or a poem?
The song is actually "Sunny Came Home". But given you have the tools, I thought we could substitute her name for Ruby's, and we have a song about you.

“Sunny Came Home” is about a woman named Sunny who burns her house down to escape her past. In April of 2013, during a concert in Perth, Australia, Shawn confirmed that the song is a murder ballad. “Sunny Came Home” peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1997 and won two Grammy awards for “Record of the Year” and “Song of the Year.”

It looks like an octopus fell on your head... :D
It's actually a hat made from the skin of a very rare, vegan-meat eating Whangdoodle. They're apparently all-the-rage in Europe at present. There's even a few here on CC who actually want one for themselves, but we've had difficulties with supply due to some Chinese counterfeiting operations.

Oh I have never heard the song before. I must say I do like the change of the name to Ruby though. Who is Shawn?

Shawn Colvin? No idea. Just a singer, I guess. I like songs, but don't often follow those who make them, unless they write a few I like. I only learned this was made by Shawn when I looked it up.
