I know Kenneth Copeland has preached it. Joyce Meyer used to preach it but I don't know if she still does. Word of Faith mainly; they say Jesus was tormented by Satan in Hell but overcame him. As a result, He was "born again." I guess they forgot about the part where He said on the cross, "It is finished."
Amen I agree with your position there . the struggle of the flesh ended at the cross .
But I actually have had discussions with people who believe there’s clear doctrine for the idea that Jesus soup appeared in hell .
Mostly the only scriptures I’ve ever really accepted that they have offered that does seem to be saying
something along those lines but I still don’t really understand it myself but here’s the scriptures they use which does at the very least make me want to study more about it I just don’t know of anything else in scripture regarding it Peter quotes psalm 16
“For
thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; Neither wilt thou suffer
thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: In thy presence is fulness of joy;
At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”
Psalm 16:10-11
“
Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, Neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; Thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch
David, that he
is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; he seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
Acts 2:27-33, 36 KJV
My response has always been that I would say it means Jesus never had to even enter hell it’s just saying “ I won’t leave your soul in hell or allow the body of the holy one to ever see corruption or decay “
It’s not really saying I’m my own view anyhow that Jesus soul was in hell and then delivered from it but that he was kept from hell which was created for Satan and sinners who follow him there
Jesus never sinned of followed Satan. We are told that by the spirit Jesus entered the spiritual prisons which held those from before the floods of Noah’s time who died in rebellion after he died and preached the gospel to them though but again that’s not hell it’s a reference to prophecy and how the messiah would visit them also when he came even those who died before he came he would visit them
there’s this
“For Christ also hath once
suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God,
being put to death in the flesh,
but quickened by the Spirit: by which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.”
1 Peter 3:18-20 KJV
and then also Jesus said this before he died and rose
“But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”
Matthew 22:31-32 KJV
after his apostles taught this
“For
to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.”
Romans 14:9 KJV
And a few other places that make me think and want to study the matter. It I can’t really find anything clear my own thought is that if Jesus entered hell by his spirit after death it was o my to take all the authority death and he’ll had over mankind and to set people free with the gospel
“I am
he that liveth, and was dead; and,
behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and
have the keys of hell and of death.”
Revelation 1:18
if he went there it was to overcome it all and set mankind free if they believe
before he entered heaven but I think some things just aren’t really clear enough to truly grasp the details of what happened after Jesus died in the spiritual realms unless we look into more scriptures regarding what happened after he died and then when he rose and also things he said beforehand in the gospel about being the resurrection and life and offering man eternal life saying they would never see death ect they had already been delivered from death ( the second death of course )
I’m just saying i used to think it was a terrible unbiblical thought but then a lot of things were raised in my mind by those scriptures in those discussions
