Man or bear?

Social media is jumping with the following question: would you rather encounter a strange man or a bear in the woods?

I would love to hear any and all points of view, and I would hope that no one gets upset or defensive at any genuine response. I am not looking for any particular answer, just be honest.

I've met a lot of strange men in my life, but never a bear in the woods. I'll stick with what I know... .

If you meet a bear in the woods, it's not a strange bear. That's where a bear is supposed to be.

Meeting ME in the woods, now that would be strange. We invented walls and doors and stuff so we wouldn't have to be out in the woods any more. We developed a lot of barriers between us and outside. If you met me in the woods I would be a strange man, because I would be very out of place and wanting to get back indoors.

But strange or not, I'd rather meet a human than a bear. Bears I can predict and cannot outrun. Humans might be anything, and I have a chance of outrunning a random human.

The town council members of a nearby city are discussing ways to eliminate the camps where the homeless are living.
They took a bulldozer to one recently.

One day hiking down a West Virginia mountain I heard something heading towards me. It sounded HUGE crashing through the woods. (Good thing I didn't have a gun.......might of shot myself 😄)
I only had a small pocket knife and picked up a nearby stick. Not much comfort there.
Then around 50 yards or so away, it stumbled to a stop. It was on the other side of a thicket and trees. A Black Bear.
I held my "weapons" at ready as I anticipated it to be looking at dinner.
It paused for a tense while.........

Then it turned and ran off in another direction.

The question going around gives the option of a man or a bear .. Not a ""Strange"" Man.. and a lot of woman are responding with a Bear because it is simply a man hate promoting questionnaire..

I find the question interesting and thought-provoking. Figures Jim Jimmers woulda asked it 🙄 😜.

I did once encounter a strange bear in a blueberry thicket. We both stopped dead in our tracks. Then we exchanged questioning looks. Then each took several steps backwards. Then we both lost our nerve and skedaddled.

I think I'd be reasonably comfortable encountering any strange man who behaved the same way.

Wait Mr. Jimmers, your poll is flawed because you did not specify the gender of the bear. 🤔

I think I'd be more comfortable encountering a male human than a female bear. But if both were male I'd consider the bear more predictable. Plus I expect to find bears in my woods but a man would be trespassing so already a little sketchy.

Also you did not specify the species of bear. Around here we only have relatively harmless black bears. But if I lived in Grizzly territory I'd probably rather encounter the human.

Please be more pedantic next time.

I like being out in the woods. It gives me a tranquil feeling.
I don't like going into the woods that are close to town though. I used to live in the country and spent a lot of time in the woods, never had any problems. Now, I live on the edge of the country. There are woods near where I live. I decided to go for a walk in the woods (I was armed). At some point, I came across several buckets with lids. They were placed in a big circle. Besides these, there were other items there that told me someone was using the area for some reason. Something about the situation gave me an uneasy feeling and I put distance between me and that area of the woods. Afterwards, on a different day, I was on my evening walk near the same area (I was walking on the road, not in the woods). There is an uninhabited house on this road. There is a cabinet in the opening of the fence that faces the area of the woods where I ran across the buckets. The cabinet was always open and empty every time I walked by, but this particular day it was closed and flowers were on top of the cabinet and they were pointed in that direction of the woods. Of course, it could have been coincidence and it didn't stop me from my evening walks, but I didn't go down into that portion of the woods again (there are some unusual people in this area).

Everything would run FROM me. Matter of fact if me and bigfoot saw each other out in the woods and ran back and told somebody what we saw, neither one of us would be believed.
