Ok, so this is the first time I've ever cared to think deeply about this passage. I'm wondering what ya'll think of what I think this is about:

2 Peter 2:22 KJV - 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog [is] turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

I think, and I could surely be wrong here, that this passage is stating that those who claim to be Pure, Righteous, and Holy, yet are fake, will prove that they have not been Transformed by Christ, for these dogs return to their own vomit. If they had transformed into a New Creation, it would be impossible for the New Life to return to the vomit of something it no longer is. Ultimately, this process is pointing to the Circumcision of Christ . . . the fulcrum of our Faith.

It's the flip side of 2 Corinthians 5:17.

What part of dogs and swine and the dirty muck and vomit makes you think of pure, righteous and Holy? They started as dogs/swine and ended like them as well. Some people don't change, at least not really.

You are posting a verse in isolation.. You cannot build your View of the Word of God based on isolated verses.. you need to read things in context.. which means finding out where this passage starts and reading the entire portion of scripture:: In context:::

(2 Peter 2:17-22) "These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. {18} For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. {19} While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. {20} For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. {21} For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. {22} But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire."

This passage is talking about people who where once saved but who fell under the influence of false preachers.. Messengers masquerading as being from The LORD but who where spreading doctrines of demons.. Doctrines so false that they undermine the saving Gospel truth that once had these people escaped from the pollution of the world through the knowledge of the LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ...

It will be worse for them who have already experienced the truth of God's Word and have tasted God’s love and then return to those empty wells—those traditions of man that reject the true teachings of God's Word.

How does one become unsaved? How does one born from above become unborn from above? How is one separated from the love of God in Christ Jesus? Who can pluck one from the hand of the Father or the Son?

Amen. Some seem to judge thier own self “ saved irrevocably “ yet they deny what the lord said about man’s salvation and refuse to accept his judgements. Or the fact that we all have to give account for our deeds. It’s exactly what israel did they began to teach things God didn’t say and it destroyed the people

“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭2:1-2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

A big reason is Paul’s epistles and people reading a line at a time trying to create full doctrines from one verse in n oauls lengthy explainations that run for chapters

“And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. ( god isn’t destroying them thier destoying themselves with false doctrine )

Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:15-18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Sorry but this is a faulty interpretation.

We are SHEEP not dogs and pigs.

We don’t become sheep and then morph into a pig or dog.

Those people had the KNOWLEDGE of Jesus Christ but were never truly born again.

I know tons of people that know who Jesus is, and what He did for them, but rejected Him.
For a short time they may have went to Church and had a form of Godliness, but never truly believed and were transformed. And eventually left the Church.

They were better off never to have heard the Truth then to have heard and rejected Him.

amen that’s what this is about

“Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.

But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭8:11-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We need to continue in his doctrine it doesn’t matter how much we learn and grasp but it matters that we abide in what we hear we’re disciples of the lord

I see. So you're saying that these people received the Circumcision of Christ, but then they made the decision to become evil, and the Curse of the Lord was reapplied, thus such a person, a dog, returns to their own vomit?

Kind of like Judas Iscariot . . . the one who never believed? :)

Right. If a person is Spiritually dead, they're dead. There is no choice to be made. If a person can make a choice, they're not dead, physically or Spiritually.

I’m thinking the world is full of these type of people who were, are and will be deceived in these latter days —who will turn away in an instant from God, some in ignorance and some not. It’s prophecied; we’ve been foretold and it will happen just as the Lord has told us.

NAS Heb 6: 4For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6and then have [e]fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, [f]since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame.

ESV 4For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:63‬

every person is bound to death that’s why we have to accept the word of life and believe

“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭2:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

thats based on those who love God

“Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die:

but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

…. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:12-13, 28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

What is it to love him ?

If ye love me, keep my commandments. …He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14:15, 21, 23-24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:3-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬
