I agree with the core point he was making, there is too much romantiscism in the world regarding the perfect partner, and peoples both Christian and not tend to justify failed relationships with 'they were not the one' instead of 'I didn't give all I should have' or some other more honest evaluation.
However I do think to base that aritcle around the notion of soul mates a little unfair, mainly because the term is so loosely defined, to me a soul mate isn't neccesarily a perfect marriage partner so much as someone who 'get's me', someone with whom I connect on all levels and have that unspoken understanding with, and I believe those people absolutely do exist and I believe God has a hand in that, our journeys bring us together and our journey is given by God.
I had never heard about the Zeus orign of soul mates story, can't say I agree that it's a common basis for the belief, more likely it's cheesy hollywood rom coms.
I did like his conclusion though, marriage is all about the work in the end
as are all relationships.

I lost my belief in soul mates a long time ago. The way I see it, is if there were soul mates, and fate brought them together, the divorce rate wouldn't be so high and there wouldn't be so many older, single people. I mean, the idea is that you meet "the right one" while you're young.
I've had a couple times I thought I found my "soul mate." But it always falls through. One day I'll meet a Christian man that I'm compatiable with, and we'll make it work, fate or no fate.

The term "soul mate" is a modern new age term. In the 60's and 70's when I grew up, I do not recall this term being used.
I do recall the terms "soul surfer" and "soul brother or sister" being used.

I do believe in "Soul mates" to an extent. I do think that God has someone in mind for most people, not all. I do think that despite Soul mates, or not, a marriage will not work unless you work at making it work, and this includes bringing God into the marriage.

Soulmates do not exist. Its just a modern idea lonely people adopt to keep themselves from feeling hopeless about their romantic futures. There's no evidence biblically, or in the world, to prove the concept, or even support it. I don't believe in the concept that there is 'the one' that is the only one that you could be in a good marriage and relationship with. I think it has to do more with compatibility and a willingness to make it work, and yes, having that 'connection'. What makes it difficult is finding all those traits in another person. It easy to find compatible people, or a person willing to work, or attraction, or connection, or any of the other things needed. But trying to find all of it in one person is the hard part.

To me a soul mate is someone who is strong in the areas where I am weak and vice versa. Someone who "gets" me and can read me pretty well. I've found two men like that in my life. I have no doubt there are others.
In my family, when babies are dedicated, we also pray that God will raise up a godly man or woman to be the husband or wife of that child when the day comes. I believe God answers those prayers, but I'm not saying that he or she will magically show up on their doorstep in a basket with a pretty bow and a card. If we are following the Lord as we should, we will undoubtedly run into others who are following just as closely. If we keep our heads up, as the wise ones in Gideon's army, we'll find them. But if we aren't following or paying attention...

I know a lot of people think there is no evidence for soulmates, but what about Adam and Eve or Issac and Rebecca. These two couples would never have happened without God's hand in it.
Again, let me reiterate, I believe on soul mates to an extent. Prob more along the lines of how Jules explained it. I do, however, believe that not everyone is meant to get married. I believe that some people are called to be single.

I think you're called to be single if you find satisfaction in the Lord on your own. You find satisfaction in living alone.
A Lutheran pastor once told me that if you have a desire to be married, you will marry. He said in all his 30 years ministry experience he never knew someone who wanted to get married, didn't.

First, you have to start with a correct definition of what the Soul is. When you are clear on what that is. Then you can start to see how two people can be compatible not because they are totally alike, but because one complements the other very nicely.
