Matthew 6:16-18 - Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. (Read More...)
Joel 2:12 - Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:
Matthew 6:18 - That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
That last one is the best "tip", and my favorite.

So you believe in Miracles then? You're not some sort of cessasionist (or whatever is called)? 
There’s a lot of things that aren’t required, but bring miracles and open doors (quickly). This is one of them.
Also, fasting breaks off the little foxes.

Theres a lot that happens during a fast spiritually. Jentezen Franklin irons out some of the basics, but I disagree about not praying is just dieting. It’s true a lot of people fast to diet, but anyone who chooses to fast for spiritual reasons is still doing spiritual warfare and you can’t help but end up praying. The first 2-3 days are the toughest but it’s amazing how it becomes so easy to obey God. Stuff starts falling off.
Relatives get saved, financial doors open up, impossible situations get solved, on and on.
