Chapter 53:

1Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?

2For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

3He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

6All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

7He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

8He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

9And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

10Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

11He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

12Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

The Man of Sorrows prophecy is indeed one of the very most clear cut prophecies about Jesus. Isaiah gets cited actually quite a bit in the NT, off the top of my head I think Isaiah might be the most cited prophet in the Gospels.

Don't know if anyone remembers, but some time back there was a thread about Jesus. What he looked like, and if he was poor or came from a wealthy family. It is clear to me that from Scripture we know he was not a handsome man and that was because he did not want people following him because of his looks.

The description in Isiah shows he was not handsome. As well, in Phillipians we read:

Chapter 2:

5Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

6Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

9Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

Jesus wanted people to follow Him, believe in Him because of His Gospel, not His looks or personal wealth/reput

notice how it actually starts earlier ?

“Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high. As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men: so shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭52:13-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭53:1-6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Not everyone notices that or this after Jesus had come to bear sin , how it concludes those verses

“For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2:21-25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Probably true.

Jesus quoted from Psalms the most.

Probably true.

Jesus quoted from Psalms the most.
He did , he quoted quotes also from many prophets and the law of Moses the reason he was quoting from the ot a lot is he was witnessing the fulfillment t of those prophecies about himself the messiah

“And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, and said unto them,

Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭24:44-47‬ ‭KJV‬‬

many people misunderstand this part that he had been telling them

“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:17-18‬ ‭

he was always quoting from the prophets and psalms because he was fulfilling the promises in them about himself

“For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:13‬

he had come to fulfill those promises in the psalms law and prophets is why he was quoting from them

“The law and the prophets were until John:

since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭16:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

...from Scripture we know he was not a handsome man and that was because he did not want people following him because of his looks.
Neither was Christ ugly (as depicted by those stupid imaginary pictures). As the God-Man, Jesus of Nazareth was outstanding in every way.

Personally, I like this painting. Not sure who is the painter:

I was meaning moreso that Isaiah I think is the most cited prophet in the Gospels as a whole, not neccessarilly by Jesus himself. Though this does remind me kind of interesting is that in Luke 4:16-21 we see Jesus read the Bible and the book of the Bible which he reads from is in fact Isaiah 61:1-2.

Luke 4:16-21

16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

Isaiah 61:1-2

1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

Looks very similar to some of Caravaggio's Christ paintings... like
this one called Christ with the crown of thornes, circa 1620, 1630

What is the meaning of forgiven by Thomas Blackshear?

This painting shows the depth of forgiveness Jesus has...he will even forgive those who drove the nails into His hands and feet.

I do not see Jesus wanted people to follow him. Rather people to follow his Father, the one and only one good as said in Matthew
Matthew 19:17
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
Mark 10:18
And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

God Father is the only one good, Jesus approved as good by God Father in his being risen from the dead for us to be risen too, those in belief to see that will not quit belief to hear, trust God. re the ones that willingly obey, these know and do as led, the same as Son did. Not being above anyone or below either,Equal with Father in risen Son Jesus for them. Amen Amazing grace this is
