Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. KJV

“Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. NIV

Can anyone explain the two comings and the time?

“so ( first coming ot promises ) Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many;

and ( second coming nt promises ) unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince

shall be seven weeks,

and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.”
‭‭Daniel‬ ‭9:25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

If you keep reading

“And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself (first coming the messiah was rejected and killed , bearing the sins of the people )

and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; ( rome destroyed Jerusalem and it’s temple shortly after )

and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.”
‭‭Daniel‬ ‭9:26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

This is why Jesus was warning those of that region and tbat generetion about the coming destruction of Jerusalem and it’s temple

The first coming already happened it’s the gospel . daniel wrote it 700 yes before it happened . His first coming fulfills all of the promises to Israel about the messiah who would die for thier sins ( Isaiah 53, psalm 22) and concerned the end of Jerusalem and its temple and ways of worship because the time given then was for them to cease from sin and accept the messiah, they rejected him and had him killed bringing the desolation of the curses of the law . that was his first coming then he went to heaven

“And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭1:10-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He’s going to return the second time from heaven for a different purpose not to be manifest as a man and die for sins again but to save his people and judge the world in righteousness by the truth of his everlasting word

his second coming will be at the end of the world when the dead are raised up for judgement

“Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth;

they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life;

and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:28-29‬ ‭

“For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭16:27‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭20:11-12, 15‬ ‭

his return the second coming will be about deliverance for his people and then judgement for the earth nonone knows the time

Deliverance for his people

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭4:16-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

judgement for his enemies

“….the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

when he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe in that day.”
‭‭2 Thessalonians‬ ‭1:7-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

His first coming is what we read about in the gospel his second is at the end of the world judgement day the things written in the nt that they tell us is coming

You quoted "messiah shall be cur off", which I dont think it is speaking of his crucifixion. The verse is speaking of 2 different comings, so the 62 sevens have to be in our time, not the past/ Not having access to prayers and sacrifices is what I see during the time of the antichrist. His first coming dealt with a resurrection.

Seven seven's is a number like 49. In John 2 when Jesus had a discussion with the Pharisees and they said: It has taken us 46 years to build the temple/

So, 3 years of the ministry of the Lord plus 46 years equals 49. Seems like they clearly should have known the time of his coming!

Can anyone explain the two comings and the time?
There is only the FIRST COMING of Christ (Messiah the Prince) in this passage. So let's look at the entire passage:

MESSIAH THE PRINCE
25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. 26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself...

THE PRINCE THAT SHALL COME
...and the people of the prince that shall come [the Antichrist] shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. 27 And he [the Antichrist] shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

1. The term "week"/"weeks" is actually a heptad of seven years.
2. 70 weeks x 7 = 490 years
3. 7 weeks x 7 = 49 years
4. 62 weeks (threescore and two) x 7 = 434 years
5. 434 years + 49 years = 483 years
6. 483 years + 7 years = 490 years

So here is what we have:
(1) Christ was crucified exactly 483 years after Cyrus gave that command. Since He was crucified in AD 30, the command of Cyrus went out in 453 BC. When Ptolemy's chronoly is properly adjusted, this is the correct year.

(2) The remaining 7 years (which are yet future) are assigned to the Antichrist, and within that period the Abomination of Desolation (an idol) will be set up in a future temple in Jerusalem by the Antichrist. This will trigger "desolations" or severe divine judgments.

Really? Kindly go and read that passage again carefully. Seven weeks AND threescore and two weeks means the two must be added.

Really, and even tho the Romans were in their land it was not a troubled time. They were building Jerusalem and the Temple, celebrating their feasts, married, planted and harvested and travel was not hindered. The troubled time is in our time!

Daniel’s prophecy is for Israel and was given to Daniel while he was in captivity in Babylon.

The prophecy is for a total of 490 years which begins with the command to rebuild and restore the city of Jerusalem and the wall. These events are recorded in the books of Ezra (city) and Nehemiah (wall).

457 BC to 408 BC
49 years to rebuild/restore Jerusalem

407 BC to 27 AD
434 years till Messiah comes

The last 7 years are split in half 3.5 and 3.5.

27AD to 30 AD
John Baptist prepares the way of the Lord/Messiah.

Jesus Christ ministers 3.5 years confirming the new covenant and is cut off when crucified and causes sacrifices of animals to no longer be acceptable.

40 years later in 70 AD the Romans destroyed the Temple and city of Jerusalem.

The Last 3.5 Years
The False Prophet and Anti-Christ will follow the same script as John the Baptist and Jesus Christ…. with only 3.5 years.

This will be the time of Jacob’s trouble.

—————————————-

Within this prophecy Jesus Christ is fulfilling all the law, prophets and psalms and the 7 Feasts of Israel….

Passover
Fulfilled with Jesus Christ crucifixion

Unleavened Bread
Fulfilled with Jesus Christ burial

First Fruits
Fulfilled with Jesus Christ resurrection

Pentecost
Fulfilled with Jesus Christ pouring out the promised Holy Spirit on all people- Jew first then Gentile

Trumpets
Currently being fulfilled by Jesus Christ in His Believers being sent into all the world preaching the gospel - every time gospel of Jesus Christ is preached, the spiritual shofar trumpet being blown.

Eventually, the last shofar will sound and this feast will end with the rapture of the Bride of Christ meeting Jesus Christ in the air.

Day of Atonement
This will be fulfilled during the last 3.5 years of Daniel’s prophecy with the False Prophet and Anti-Christ entering the public arena in the Middle East… the 2 witnesses will also be there to disprove all the lies, the eyes of all Jews will be opened to know Jesus Christ is their Messiah.

Day of Atonement ends with the return of Jesus Christ to the Earth, False Prophet and Anti-Christ are thrown alive in Gehenna-the Lake of Fire. All people on the Earth with mark of the beast perish in the fire that covers the Earth. The only survivors are people without the mark of the beast.

Tabernacles
Jesus Christ will fulfill this feast during His 1,000 year reign on the Earth.

Tabernacles ends with Satan released for little season then….

The Grand Finale which is… The Great White Throne Judgment.

Then, the New Heaven & Earth and New Jerusalem.

Eternity with God…

70 weeks split into 3 parts

- 7 weeks or 49 years for restoration and reconstruction (457 BC - 408 BC)
- 69 weeks or 434 years until the coming of the Messiah (457 BC -27 AD)
- Final week of Messiahs ministry (27 AD - 34 AD)

My understanding differs on the final week from what has been posted already.

Daniel 9:26 and v27 are meant to be read together as one event.

Dan 9v27 He =Messiah (see previous verse v 26) confirms the covenant (the New Testament) first with Jews for one week = 7 years - His ministry started in 27 AD, then it would go to the gentiles at the end of that week.

In the midst of the week = 3 and half years into the Messiahs ministry, (He shall be cut off = Crucified, v26) he shall cause the sacrifice and oblation to cease = the old covenant comes to an end. (after 3 and half more years after the crucifixion the gospel was preached to the gentiles - Acts 8:5).

The rest of Dan 9v27 concerns the judgement upon the Jews who continued with the sacrifices, and God used the Roman Army in 70 AD to bring judgement to them, (and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary v26), the people of the prince, were the Romans, the prince leading the assault was Prince Titus, the future Emperor.

Two questions to ask about the popular understanding about the weeks.

1. Where does it say to use a year for a day for the 69 weeks then use a day for a day for the final week?
2. Where does it say to have the 69 weeks consecutive, but then have a 2000 year plus gap before the final week?

If the Lord intended us to understand the 70 sevens as 490 years he would have told us so such as in 1 Kings 6:1.

In the four hundred and eightieth year after the people of Israel came out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, he began to build the house of the Lord.

The Hebrew language is quite capable of writing larger numbers.

The sevens used in Daniel's prophecy can be seven of anything and it was written this way for a reason.

So I am going to suggest the sevens spoke of in 62 sevens are Passover weeks. I believe the Lord was counting years here using the Feast of Passover meaning 62 years.

Israel had Jerusalem returned during the six day war in 1967.

1967 plus 62 years equals year 2029.

One should not expect textbook answers, but rightly divide the Word of Truth.

In the Olivet Discourse (30 AD) the Lord Jesus Christ told us that the Abomination of Desolation would stand in the Holy Place according to Daniel. When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand)... (Mt 24:15)

But just before that Christ had already prophesied the destruction of the Second Temple (the one which existed while He was on earth: And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. (Mt 24:2) This prophecy was fulfilled by the Romans in 70 AD, and there was no Antichrist reigning on earth at that time. Which means that Christ was speaking about a FUTURE TEMPLE in Jerusalem.

Paul took this a step further and told us that the Antichrist (the Man of Sin, the Son of Perdition) would sit in "the temple of God" claiming to be God. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. (2 Thess 2:3,4) Since there was no Antichrist sitting in the temple between 52 AD and 70 AD, Paul too was prophesying about a FUTURE TEMPLE in Jerusalem.

Now when we go back to Daniel 9:27 we can connect the dots. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease [IN THAT FUTURE TEMPLE], and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate [THE ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION], even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

The gap is obvious (to those who wish to see it) and it is more that 2,000 years, since the reign of the Antichrist is still a future event (but probably not too far off). The Orthodox Jews in Israel have already made detailed plans for this future temple.

He did tell you already but you do not wish to believe the Lord. You would rather follow your own ideas. Those "weeks" in Daniel cannot possibly be ordinary seven-day weeks in order for those events to happen. Seventy weeks would be approximately 18 months, which is about 1 1/2 years.

Can anyone explain the two comings and the time?
Good morning!

What is being said here is from the time of the command to restore Jerusalem (The city - found in Nehemiah 2) which occured in the 20th year of artexerxes in the month of Nisan (this would be the 5th month of the year 455 BCE until the anointed one comes (this is when Israels messiah is introduced. Just like the prophet Isaiah said riding on the foal of a donkey, Which was fulfilled when Jesus rode into jerusalem on a donkey on what people call Palm Sunday, would be 7 weeks plus 62 weeks, or 69 weeks.

Which was fulfilled to the day.

It said after this (the next event) messiah would be cut off. this was fulfilled the next weekend on the cross.

The next event will be the destruction of the city and sanctuary, (fulfilled in 70 AD by the people of the prince who is to come, or Titus and his roman army) where it will lay desolate for a predetermined time, in which their will be wars and destruction's (think wars and rumors of wars)

The event after this is a prince, who comes from the people who destroyed the city (rome) who confirms some covenant for 1 week, or 7 years, which starts the 70th week of daniel.

but in the middle of this week. He places the abomination of desolation Jesus spoke of in Matt 24 in the holy place or the wing of the temple.

It is after this 3.5 years given to this king (you will have to go to other passages to see this in writing) that Christ returns a second time to defeat this gentile king, and restore peace to the earth

Hope this helps

Cut off, the word in the hebrew literally means to be killed.

There actually is only one coming in the passage himself. the one at the end of the 69th week. The 2nd coming is not mentioned in the text.

well the 69 weeks does not include the 49 years in the passage, But yes they should have Known, even jesus said this.

Luke 19:41-42

41 Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it, 42. saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.

The man of sin arrived on the scene a very long time ago

1 Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

2 Thessalonians 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

The papacy sits in the temple of God, that is, it arose in the church, the claim of Infallibility is "sitting as God in the temple.

A newly-elected Pope is adored and styled "Lord God, the Pope."

In the middle ages the papacy burnt bibles and persecuted and killed the saints, up until the French Revolution

can you explain.

70 weeks (of 7 years) = 490 years (using the hebrew calendar, 490 years of 360 days)

he says there will be 7 weeks (many believe this is the time it took to rebuild the city) plus 62 weeks until the coming of messiah, this would be 69 weeks of years.
