A breath of fresh air? or a living soul?

“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground,

and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;

and man became a living soul.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

‭more modern translation

“Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground

and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life,

and the man became a living being.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2:7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

a soul isnt something that we possess but something man became at creation when God breathed life into his body he had formed. When we die it’s the opposite of creation oir body returns to the dust and our spirit the living part returns to God who gave it to man

“and the dust returns to the ground it came from,

and the spirit returns to God who gave it.”
‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭12:7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

man has a spirit in the Old Testament and living spirit of course comes from God . The father of spirits

Just like Adam, our parents made us from the earth, but the living soul came from the Lord

The human body can be killed by just about any means, but the human soul
can only be terminated by the hand of God.

"Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather,
be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in Hell." (Matt
10:28-29)

In other words; the deaths of body and soul aren't necessarily simultaneous,
viz: the soul lives on until such a time as God decides to give it either a
thumb up or a thumb down.

If the breath of life were atmospheric gases, it would be possible to revive a
corpse with artificial respiration; so we have to conclude that it's an energy
vastly more powerful than anything found in nature.

The breath of life isn't unique to humans. Every creature aboard the ark with
Noah was alive due to the breath of life, and every creature that drowned in
the Flood too. (Gen 7:12-23)

As for soul; it began appearing in the book of Genesis by the Hebrew word
nephesh (neh'-fesh) which isn't unique to human life. Its first appearance is
at Gen 1:20-21 in reference to aqua creatures and winged creatures; again
at Gen 1:24 as terra creatures; viz: cattle, creepy crawlies, and wild beasts;
and again in Gen 2:7 as the human creature; and yet again at Gen 9:10 to
classify every creature aboard Noah's ark.

Soul is somewhat ambiguous but basically refers to consciousness, self
awareness, and individuality, i.e. sentient existence. It's sometimes a
reference to one's heart, e.g. Gen 34:3, and to the core of one's being, e.g.
Gen 27:4. All in all, soul is just another way of referring to that part of
sentient life that we call "self" which can be roughly defined as the element
of our existence that makes us unique individuals.

All fauna life was created sentient in the book of Genesis. However, I've yet
to discover a passage in the Bible indicating that flora life was created
sentient, ergo: flora life isn't self aware; flora life has no soul.

So then it's safe to say Man is a person, and it's safe to say that parakeets
and meerkats are persons too (in their own way) but it would likely be
unwise to posit that garlic, saguaro cactus, and/or kelp are persons because
it's necessary to be a soul and/or have a soul in order to qualify as a
person.

FYI: God has a soul. (Lev 26:11, Lev 26:30, Judg 10:16, Isa 42:1, Jer
32:41, Zech 11:8) So if it were possible to somehow destroy God's soul,
then He would become as wooden as carrots and turnips, i.e. God would no
longer be a person, instead: He'd resemble a vegetable.

and all who dwell on earth will worship it, every one whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that was slain. Rev 13:8

“And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb

slain from the foundation of the world.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭13:8‬ ‭KJV‬

“Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin–; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written. And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭32:32-33‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.”
‭‭Daniel‬ ‭12:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3:3, 5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21:27‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭20:11-12‬ ‭

“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭20:15‬ ‭

“and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭22:19‬ ‭

“book “ of life

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭

“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:63‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:51‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.”
‭‭John‬ ‭12:48-50‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:28-29‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. “

“another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.”
