I do miss a time without cell phones. I deeply miss the in-depth conversations with normal everyday people I used to have before they became popular but do not be disheartened Cathcath, you can still find people who don't use cell phones. You'll find many at the library, especially in the archives and the observatory.
I am very interested in technology and sit at the computer for many productive things (no gaming!). For the work and privately. I'm also interested in old technology, some of which is even older than me.
Nevertheless, I take a very critical view of many things today and the ignorance of many (most?) Christians in this area gives me pause for thought. Using any standard device and software without questioning... And if you ask them about the Linux operating system as an alternative, for example, they make long faces. They quickly come up with the argument that their favorite game won't run on it, for example.
As far as smartphones are concerned, I share Cath's negative attitude here. Mine will be 12 years (!) old in a few weeks. And I only use it for the bare essentials. I usually leave it at home in my private life. I don't want to subordinate myself to this idol and I certainly don't want to carry this tracking device around with me all the time. Works wonderfully. You just have to organize yourself a bit, but that worked for thousands of years before too.

I agree, I think that young people are being told that they need a smartphone even for communication but we can all observe the consequences of that. With rising mental health issues and young people who cannot look you in the eye when you serve them at a retail store. It is sad

Even in the translations you selected. Smartphones have made young people rely on technology to get them through the day. So many young people don't even know how to cook, don't know how to survive and don't know how to think for themselves. This was not done by accident. When you ask someone their opinion, they will check in with google before they check in with the bible. If you look into the history of apple, you can see that there were evil influences there. And when I say 'look into' I don't mean google it.
Matthew 7:17-19 tells us that will we know people by their fruits. The fruit of smartphones is a poor attention span, inability to think rationally, addictive tendencies, Vanity/Pride, Lust, materialistic value on an object. Not to mention, poor sense of direction and poor mathematical skill, because the newer generations don't need to use their brain for things when the phone will do the thinking for you.
Social media's popularity is also reliant on smartphones, without the camera option to document every mundane aspect of our lives, social media wouldn't be able to take a hold of us the way it has. You could argue that it is the way you use the smartphone but the majority of young people are addicted to them. They may say they are not but if the phone dies or breaks, their day is ruined.
The devil is cunning, the master of lies. Smartphones may seem great and harmless and helpful but that is how it is intended for us to view it. But it is slowing getting worse and worse wherein people literally don't even know what reality is now. And It will continue to get worse, they introduce these things slowly for a reason. The technology that is available to world leaders and tech designers is at least 10 years ahead of what is released to the general public and they control when to release all these things. Yes, the technology makes some corrupt people very rich and therefore very powerful but there is a whole lot more going on behind the scenes. And these people know where you are all the time, they know what you are buying and they probably have your thumbprint and face I.D scan. So, if you ever do want to get out of their radar, it will already be too late.
It's okay that we disagree. if you don't think it is evil, then keep it. But the Bible says that whatever you do, do it in faith. So, if you are convinced it is okay. Go right ahead. May God bless you and keep you.
I'm not against someone using technology properly as some have explained so well. I'm using it right now and try to be a blessing to others each day as others do too .
It is a big stumbling block, however for many people. If I had a child or teenager, they would not have the option of having a smart phone with internet. In spite of how much useful and good information is available, there's way too much temptation that can destroy their lives. Even the big tech CEOs and VPs who were interviewed admit that their own children are not permitted to have cell phones.
That should make parents stop and think.

I think technology can be used responsibly as long as we would be willing to get rid of it if God called us to, as to not make it an idol.
There are of course benefits and we are called to be 'A light in the darkness' and so even among evil, we can do great things if called to.
I do think it is important to understand the history of these things because there is a lot of hidden stuff that we don't know about technology.
But it seems that you have thought it through and that is great to hear.

When I heard about these Smart devices in utility meters, appliances and convenience devices, like Alexa, I asked myself if these were wicked devices for nepharious purposes, or simply more communication tools?
I do think cell phones can be and are used by believers for good. When Christ establishes His kingdom upon the Earth after destroying Satan's armies, will there be all this high tech once again? That's a question that I can't answer right now about cars and phones.

Problem is your assumption is that things mean objects.
Also I noticed you ignored the other three quotes I offered.
I am disabled. Live alone. Have numerous medical issues. Having a cell phone means I have access to emergency medical care anywhere I am. Or to keep in touch with doctors. Or get updates on blood tests.
I access this site through my phone, as well. When I first moved here I spent 6 months looking for work. Ever since then I've been disabled. Therefore I made no friends, and haven't since. So I use my phone for socialization.
It also helps me to keep in touch with my siblings who live an hour away. They live closer to my father, whose in a long term care facility the rest of his life. So they're able to keep me updated on my father since I can't make it there as often.
But when I do see him I use my phones GPS. I've never been great at directions, so it's a huge help. I also use it to help find some doctors offices, since I'm often referred to specialists in other locations.
I keep track of my bills and paying them this way.
Order things as needed through it since I don't go to the store.
Keep track of weather to be aware of storms. Or what days I can visit my dad, rainy and stormy days and a no for me to drive in.
Not to mention if the power or internet go out I still have access to the internet and to make emergency calls.
Im not obsessed with social media.

I didn't look any of it up, I have been thinking about this for a while. I read KJV but they are all translations of the same thing. As I said before, if you are not obsessed with it or not addicted then go right ahead.
The bible says there will be a time where you cannot buy or sell things without the mark of the beast and so it wont matter if you need things, you will have to make a choice.
I have been researching this topic for over a year, God lead me to that particular verse and i still believe it includes things. If you are happy with what you say then no worries,

But not just Apple! Microsoft isn't better! On the contrary. Look at its founder who is now even up to mischief in the pharma industry. And the current terms of use of Microsoft products are a disaster with regards to privacy or quite normal interpersonal decency! I would even go so far as to say that Apple is the lesser evil if you have to decide between those two.
But back to smartphones: While with computers you still have alternatives such as Linux (with its almost infinite number of distributions and customization options), which gives you a lot of freedom over your device, but you don't have this option with smartphones. Even almost every "alternative OS" for Android phones have still parts from the Android OS (Google) in it.
I am basically 15 and I have never had a smartphone. I have a slim camera for recording, and an mp3 player for music, and I would like a flip phone for just texting, because unfortunately in our world, if you don't have a phone you miss out. however I never want a smartphone. I think laptops are actually better than smartphones, because it cannot be carried in your pocket. so many teens, and even kids are completely addicted to phone.
wait. that's not actually true. for a few months I had a smartphone that I brought back to life, but used it solely for pornography, and after a while, destroyed it. and subsequently, I never want one. it is far to easy to use them for evil.
That is great, I am the same. I have a camera, MP3 and 'dumb' phone. I am happy to hear you are willing to go outside of the norm and make good choices for yourself. I agree that the laptop is better because when you are outside, you actually have to just experience the real world without turning to the manufactured device to guide you.
