You didn't state where this scripture is.
But in this link is a Bible site that has tons of translations available. Makes it easy to compare.

You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder. NIV

No, you didn't give where in the bible it is. And I don't know where it is. Hence my saying that you didn't state where it is.

If you read the first half of the chapter which this verse is tied to, the NIV translation makes better sense than the KJV.

Isaiah 9

1 Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan—

2 The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned.

3 You have enlarged the nation
and increased their joy;
they rejoice before you
as people rejoice at the harvest,
as warriors rejoice
when dividing the plunder.

4 For as in the day of Midian’s defeat,
you have shattered
the yoke that burdens them,
the bar across their shoulders,
the rod of their oppressor.

5 Every warrior’s boot used in battle
and every garment rolled in blood
will be destined for burning,
will be fuel for the fire.

6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7 Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
will accomplish this.

This is more consistent with verse 1 in the KJV:Thou hast multiplied the nation [Israel], and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil. [their joy is not in the Lord but in either His blessings or their success in a war, where the spoils are divided. Thus "thou has not increased the joy".]

I'm not sure why the poster has even brought this up in a new thread. Verses 6 and 7 would be of more interest to Christians. In fact they are extremely significant.

To concentrate on verses 6 and 7 which are powerful you would lose the following.

1...but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan—

2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned

The KJV is the only translation that inserts the word "not" or "no" with joy. All the others say that there is great joy. Isaiah 6:6, of course, gives us the context that a child-Ruler is born, pointing forward to Jesus, the Prince of Peace. The KJV does have a few errors in its translation.

you realize that "the poster" reads all these, right? also,
"Verses 6 and 7 would be of more interest to Christians. In fact they are extremely significant." the point is not significance, it is interesting.

a note i found.
Isaiah 9:3
Thou hast multiplied the nation

With light, knowledge, honour, and glory, even Galilee of the nations before mentioned, the land of darkness, and of the shadow of death, where the people dwelt; on whom Christ, the light, shone in the ministration of his Gospel to them; whereby the number of believers in Christ were multiplied; and indeed, as he conversed, preached, and wrought his miracles most here, he had here the greatest number of disciples and followers; here were the five hundred brethren by whom he was seen at once, after his resurrection, ( 1 Corinthians 15:6 ) ( Matthew 28:7 Matthew 28:10 Matthew 28:16 ) for this is not to be understood of the Assyrian nation, whose army under Sennacherib was very large; nor of the Jewish nation enlarged by the destruction of that army, or of their increase after their return from the Babylonish captivity; nor of the church of God by the accession of Gentiles to it; but of the land or nation before spoken of: [and] not increased the joy;
or rather, as it should be rendered, "and hast increased joy unto it"; following the Keri; or marginal reading, which directs that it should be read, not as a negative, (al) "not", but (wl) , "to it"; and which is followed by the Targum and Syriac version, and by Jarchi, Aben Ezra, and Kimchi, and others; and the sense of the words requires this reading, since it follows, they joy before thee;
or otherwise there would be a manifest contradiction in the text; though some, to avoid it, read the words interrogatively, "hast thou not increased the joy?" thou hast; and in this way both the Keri and the Cetib, the reading and the writing, may be taken in, "hast thou not increased joy unto it?" and so as Gussetius

Isaiah 9:3

For Israel will again be great, filled with joy like that of reapers when the harvesttime has come, and like that of men dividing up the plunder they have won.

Isaiah 9:3

and its people will rejoice.
They will rejoice before you
as people rejoice at the harvest
and like warriors dividing the plunder.

New International Version

You have enlarged the nation(A)
and increased their joy;(B)
they rejoice before you
as people rejoice at the harvest,

The Complete Jewish Bible reads:

3 You have enlarged the nation
and increased their joy;
they rejoice before you
as people rejoice at the harvest,
as warriors rejoice
when dividing the plunder.
