Yup "TEACHER" is a "gift of calling" as it were. In the Bereans case it was their comparisons of Paul's "word" to the Scriptures that led them to their conclusions.
The passage means that they searched the Scriptures, because what Paul told them almost sounded too good to be true.
It was so good, they searched to prove him correct. Not to see if Paul was trying to mislead them

Would you want to see it done?

Keep in mind. God does not want us guessing.
He wants us to know. Not, simply, feel we know.

What good is doing this doing?

It's a "theological discussion" - so no good at all.

Its more or less, seeing what others think.
But, not knowing/learning what should be thought.

Do you think God wants it that way?
That nobody knows?
That God can not get anyone to know what is correct?

I would agree with Bob that they were verifying what Paul said was true. they just did not blindly follow Paul

That God can not get anyone to know what is correct?.
There's James 1:5-7. With the "Double-minded" qualification.

God's truth is there and FREELY available - but there's "Fences" around it.

If you don't "seek wisdom" SINGLE-MINDEDLY, then you get nothing.

If you seek to use the written word to justify your own agenda / own denominational paradigm, then you can easily go off the track into religious fantasy - like the Roman Catholics have done with any number of pagan beliefs, that even a cursory knowledge of Scripture will allow you to see through. In the case of the LDS, or JW, or Branch Davidian, People's temple, etc heresies, Ignorance/rejection of Scripture is CENTRAL to their satanic fantasies. He even says that in end times he'll send STRONG DELUSIONS. (2 Thess 2:7-12)

If you REALLY WANT GOD'S MIND on things, He will fill your understanding.

He WILL, however, allow you to believe - even teach your personal private theological fantansies, and satan will happily help you to "prove them.

Except, of course that Spiritual gifts (partial list in 1 Cor 12:7-11) are still present in 2024, and it's the "Cessationist paradigm" that they aren't which represents "Man's wisdom" to support his Theological paradigms. What's your "version" OF "THAT PERFECT"??? (1 Cor 13:10)

Have a good day, Bob.
You are going to live with your own choices.

Don't blame the messenger when he clarified what was needed for repentance.

Tongues was to be a sign to the unbelieving Jews who would
refuse to believe. Just like Pharaoh refused to believe the signs given him.

That would be an "I don't know" indicating no knowledge of Spiritual gifts. You might want to read 1 Cor 12-14 to find out

God - since He's still empowering People (myself included) to manifest them.

Apparently your religious paradigm doesn't agree, so no biggie.

But you ignored my question: What's your "version" OF "THAT PERFECT"??? (1 Cor 13:10)

The "Bible" is the most common suggestion and even the "Printing Press" has been suggested. What's yours???

Bob... we're just talking about tongues, and what was God's original intended purpose when it was given.
Not talking about "gifts" per se.

Feel free. You want to speak in tongues? Stick to your own kind.... And, feel free.

There are those who get stuck for a season in a tongues church.
They can not make sense of it.
Then people who think like you do, gaslight them.

It's for they whom I explain things for.
I do not plan on changing your mind...

Have you ever witnessed to it exegeted by someone who can? No you have not.... Over 99% of all pastors can not.

And, it's always been that way. "Few find it", means something real.

I am not running for office. I am not seeking a majority vote.
God is my witness...

I do not see how you could add something to it that is not there. Which you prety much did when you claimed you know what it was saying.

Exegesis should not make us come up with something that is not in the passage..

I would never attempt to exegete it, any more than perform the surgery that I know a certain doctor can.
I can only tell you about it.
You need to see the doctor for yourself.
He will show you. For free.

But for now.... Here is one translation that comes close to what is to be understood.

Acts 17:11

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica,
for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures
every day to see if what Paul said was true.

And... here is something taken from notes from Bible class...

10~~And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea who having arrived went into the synagogue of the Jews.

(Note: As was Paul's custom, he went to the Jews first.)

11~~These {the Bereans} were more open minded than those in Thessalonica,
in that they received and retained the word with an eagerness of mind, and searched
the scriptures daily, if these things had it thus, and they wished it was so.
{4th class condition -they WISH, then after study, they know it to be true.}.

{Note: 'Open minded' was erroneously translated noble in some translations. And, the syntax of the Greek indicates that the Bereans were searching the Old Testament with the purpose of PROVING Paul CORRECT, NOT to prove him wrong as some suggest.}

Different class conditions to be found in the Greek rarely get translated correctly.
Matthew 4:3 is a prime example.

The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

You would not know it from how many translations put it.
Satan was not doubting who Jesus was.
He was not pushing Jesus to prove He is the Son of God.
That understanding is to be found in knowing the 1st class condition found in the Greek text.

It should read more like this...

“If you are the Son of God (and you are), tell these stones to become bread.”

That introduces a new and specific question as to why Satan would say that.

Satan knew Jesus as God was able to turn the stones into bread.
So? Why was it a temptation, then?

grace and peace .........
