Here is the entire chapter of **Hebrews 12** from the **King James Version (KJV)**:
Hebrews 12 (KJV)

1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;
13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.
14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
18 For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,
19 And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:
20 (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:
21 And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)
22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:
26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.
27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
29 For our God is a consuming fire.

This is a tough passage, I had a look up the word scourgeth, which means severe punishment, whipping or lashing!
God gave me a beat down because I was deep into pornography for 20 years., lost all of my money and my job and humbled me, but regained my focus. In the Lord.

I’m reading this passage that ALL his children at some point with be chastised.

been there, done that too, thank you for being candid, not easy for the sons and daughters to admit to the truth about the first born self in us each as first birth.
Not that I am perfect, I am not God is and took care of it in Son for me and all the world of people. that is done at that cross once for us all Hebrews 10:10, John 19:30. that there, does not give new life, it is the reconciliation from God to us all through Son for us all, at least me to be thankful for this done work of Son first, forgiven by God 100%. You from God then get given new life in risen Son, the risen Jesus for each in belief to walk new as ambassadors in the done work done once for all to believe Father in, being made new in love to all, not just a few as is still being taught to be that by the religions in this world still.
God loves us all y'all

6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth

Any professed believer has been through this to one degree or another. It is part of being rebort IMO. As well, many people do not turn to God (cry out to) until they hit rock bottom. When all hope is gone. In the Army, we used to say you won't ever find an atheist in a fox hole. :)

I realized that I had to go back to church and get closer to God after I was humbled. These last 2.5 years have been the toughest time of my life. I feel like I aged 10 years.

Stick with it though and the blessing that follows the discipline is worth it. :)

heb.12:11
Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

when the Lord chastens, it also affects your entire family. My children are afflicted because of my failures with sin.

Can never repent brother till we reach where you are rn

“Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭7:9-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

when we become convicted of our sin it’s hurts but in the gospel we have answers and healing for it

“If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

( darkness is when we hide what we’ve done n deny ignore light is when we begin to hear the gospel and realize we’ve been wrong )

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭1:6-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

til we get real and feel it we’ll never change when we do feel it , we really need to cling to his mercy and grace and restoration and forgivness ,

and just really listen to what Jesus particularly was teaching it’s about forgivness towards others , not condemning others for thier failures and sins , not judging people , helping others when you can do so showing mercy towards others

Understood, glad you see it now, to see too, to trust God all in all. there are troubles affecting, affected everyone, whether or not one went down the wrong ,path or not, according to religion, God is getting us in punishing us. We must have done wrong to get these affliction(s)
Not true in the book of Job, where Job had the religious counselors there, saying he had to have sinned to get this trouble, God is punishing him, yet it was not about whether or not he had sinned. That when Jesus healed that blind person who had been blind from birth, that disciples asked Jesus who had sinned, him or his parents? Jesus replied neither! that attitude of the flesh nature, first birth, continues on to this day.
Just read the book of Job, between God and you personally, searching out truth over error(s) here in this world still happening unfortunately, and are blamed on God or Satan. When in truth today, Christ himself took on all sin unto himself to give us new life in his love and mercy offered in that done work now, by the risen life, death is passed he is risen. So, expect troubles, yet do your best and learn from error(s) now without fighting back in anger. Which I personally understand the anger reaction, when troubles happen or not.
I am in growth with Father in risen Son Jesus to first accept, whatever happens, good or bad, Accept (I am), and have found out is key to release me from anger over what has already happened. There is not a thing I can do to ever change any of it.
I learned a saying in "Longmire"
" Once the toothpaste is out of the tube, it cannot be put back" yet we remain by God forgiven to learn new from whatever it is that has happened
Trouble(s) are a reality and we do not cause them as religion says we do. We can say, it was me, it was my ignorance to stand in trust to God, no matter what happens good or bad. Then my failure to learn from it and do differently get lost and I do not learn new. I see not to walk down the road at night without the light of God shinning through me. Yet I have to know from within me if to go or not go, that is the seeking of trust to God alone over all others, including self. we hear God's voice that religion has drowned out in us, by being the leaders, False truth from people, God tells us each within us each truth over error.
My Sheep hear my voice. You hear it, you just might not have paid attention to it as are now, except I hear Fear pouring out of you from troubles. So sorry, hoping you see and accept what is done is done and not a thing anyone can do to change it. I had to learn that in my youngest sister dying at age 18, I was 14 when this happened
God is Love and God's love casts out all fear of this world, and we, I at least now do not react arrogantly over that either, at least me, I had too learn that too
1 John 4:17-18 1 John 10 amazing writings from John to us to stand in God and not arrogantly or in guilt either anymore. Fear, pride and guilt are from the evil here in this world still for now.
God never leaves any one of us ever, it just can seem as has or is or even might if "I" don't do it right. Garbage thinking. allow bad thought(s) in get bad out, just like any computer, it has a saying garbage in garbage out.
Otherwise, God would not have gone to that cross for us all. And God never once had to do that, did God? Grace is a gift receive it, see it and stand in it. Col 1:21-23
John 8 the woman caught in Adultery, what did Jesus do? Yes, let her go and did not condemn. people do the condemning not God, otherwise that cross would not have ever taken place for us to be saved in his resurrection! believe God, receive from God and be new in God by trust to God, which is the Faith God gives our ability to stand in trust to God, Jesus the Son is risen where new life is given. no matter what, God is not punishing us, people are
