This is a tech question, but not about the forum.
My ceiling light just burned out. It's a CFL twisted fluorescent bulb in my living room. When the bulb burned out. It was literally a blue flame that looked like it was coming from the base of the tube , so I turned off at the switch. The glass was not visibly broken, but I'm concerned that mercury escaped from beneath the visible area as the white plastic area surrounding was burnt brown.
Any ideas as to whether the gas escaped? It stands to reason that mercury gas escaped or that a circuit at the location ignited.
I don't trust them and will be disposing of my other fluorescent bulbs.

After watching videos on fires from these, I suggest replacements for those who still have them.

Bob, as you know i'm a huge fan of your work but the amount of mercury in these bulb is probably the same as when you eat tuna.
And if you want to be one with nature since the modern world with all its side-effects is too much, you can always abandon the modern world and live in the woods or the dessert.
Don't be like California basically which says that everything gives you cancer. The way you get cancer in California is like this.
When you're at the Arizona border-line and you cross the line and step your right foot into California ... you get cancer. That's how that works.
As always, huge fan of your work and be well.

All of mine are LEDs except in the powder room. Unfortunately, that light fixture has the two-pronged socket, and it's impossible to find low wattage (e.g. 25w equivalent) in that type of bulb. I'm probably just going to replace the fixture.

I've seen the mercury rolling around in fluorescent tubes. That's a lot more than a can of tuna. There's also a white powder that's a mercury compound. I don't want it floating around in my air getting in my lungs. I left the window open all night, but probably just made the room damp. Now I need to clean before blowing it around with the dehumidifier.

I used to use CFL bulbs. One time one broke and it got on my hands. I washed my hands and carried on. I feel fine...so far.

I've broken them too. I wasn't worried about washing my hands either. You don't want to breath it in or spread it in the environment.
I've learned that they are dangerous like dropping a thermometer because of the mercury/ Hg. There's really no safe amount. It causes the brain and nerves to short circuit. It also causes mental illness and brain damage.
I refuse to go to the dentist because Dr Costianus put lead/ mercury fillings into my teeth as a child. He was a very evil man.

Here's a good dentist. I would give him business if he was in my area. Dr David Kennedy. He also stared in a wonderful documentary on Fluoride.
This one is a short segment from another one on smoking teeth.

Here's a few minutes from a documentary on mercury. Dr David Kennedy is a research dental physician. If you ever get a filling, you will want to see this first. I taught my friend about this topic. Shortly after, he went to the dentist and he specifically told her to use the epoxy fillings and NOT mercury. She said she wouldn't use Hg. Then she proceeded to use Hg. She apologized to my buddy but did nothing about the filling .
Then the dentist closed her practice. Her husband said she has serious brain damage. My friend knows her and her husband from church. This isn't a California warning. It was common knowledge back when felt hats were hand made by hatters. Remember the mad hatter character in Alice in wonderland? That was old news back when the book was written.
Dentistry continues to put lead and Hg next to the brain. They know about this too. The medical industry is extremely wicked.

Speaking of the devils themselves.....
No sooner post this about the wicked Dental Association people and I checked the news....

>American Dental Association Doubles Down, Pledges to Push Fluoridated Water Despite Courts Revealing Fluoride Causes Brain Damage to Children<

It's not really too far off topic since they are the ones who put mercury in our bodies and the haz mat chems under the label Fluoride. Light bulbs expose us to far less mercury.
That infowars site gonna rot your brain.

But they will keep pumping out fear propaganda because y'all keep lapping it up, so... I guess that's one viable business model. They are supplying a demand.

I researched the topic decades ago.
How much time have you spent reading research on the subject?
That has helped Keep me healthy and from brain rot; mercury, lead and many harmful chemicals like fluoride compounds used by dirty dentists.
What kind of person would pour poison onto a child's food every day for the love of money?

The story I just posted simply shows that the ADA is full of implacable evil people who have rotted their consciences.

"31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death,
Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

I applied a lot of mercurochrome to my injuries when I was a kid. As an adult I applied a medicine with mercury to one of my eyes over many years. While I can't say for sure that that exposure to mercury hasn't harmed me in some way, I'm still alive, at least. I wouldn't worry about it.

Could that possibly be a halogen bulb?
I've seen that description of two pronged base with those. You'll be able to know for sure because halogens get very hot. I'm not sure if the gas in them is safe or not or if they are a fire hazard in the right fixture. I found that the twisty fluorescent ones often have the same brown looking base when I discovered them burned out, so now I see that it's a literal flame. I never had that happen with halogen, but only had one lamp with metal shades that had warning stickers on each.

No, it's a standard bulb, but instead of "screw in", it has two short prongs. They're common in Europe.
