I am new to fasting, are there certain fasts that are better than others. And what to avoid when fasting? If there is already a thread on this Please link.

Heh, I found too many to list (key word fasting) .:giggle:

Does this link work?
Thank you 😊 🙏🏻 I been going through a lot of spiritual warfare these past few months and see fasting as important to implement in my walk with Jesus.

Why are you fasting and what are your expectations from fasting?

Glad there is a fasting thread and I just started one.

I'm hungry, fastigng feel a little dizzy.

Rick Warren says not in certain words, but you can fast to show God you are more serious with your prayers to him.
Like you want to get closer to God. I really need a breakthrough right now with my job search so I'm going to fast and see if God will give me an answer on what's going on. At least that's my hope.

Which is certainly a legitimate goal and expectation. I was just seeing what the OP was attempting to accomplish because they are new to fasting.

I'm new to fasting for God too. Today is my first fast for God.
I've done some fasting before to loose weight.

Also, fasting is our way to show the Father that we are serious about our relationship with Him! We fast to hear His voice and understand from Him what He is trying to make clear to us! Press into prayer and this will change your life as you come closer to God.

שלום עליכם
Shalom, God's peace be upon you.

Given you are not asking for prayers, it surprises me to see this discussion-thread in the sub-forum Prayer requests.

In eastern-orthodox tradition we follow vegan diet during the fast periods. It means no milk-based food, no meat, only plant-based food and prayer. The inner spiritual struggle is more intense than. I hope it helps.

God be with you. Praise Jesus.

I was sitting here thinking, I wonder if there is any existing threads about fasting. I watched a teaching video from Derek Prince and it was good.
And I wound up here! An old thread, the OP hasn't been seen for almost a year. I guess not many people fast nowadays! They'd be talking about it.

Do you fast? I have. The longest I've ever fasted was 7 days! It was easier than I thought it would be. Hunger goes away completely after about day 3 and I was amazed at how much energy that I had. I guess toxins and fat cells are highly nutritious, lol.

Derek gave me this scripture

Psalm 35
13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom..../KJV

So that's how we humble ourselves. God doesn't Humble us, he told us to Humble ourselves! (OT) and the recognized way to humble ourselves is by fasting.

I humbled my soul with fasting. i like that what David said. Our soul is the arrogant part of us and we must bring our soul into subjection to our spirit, and the way to do this, is by fasting! Cut off his food and lay it at Jesus feet!

one time i was doing a 3 day fast and my soul kept triggering hunger in me and it was distracting. But I wanted to finish the fast without breaking it so I threatened him (my soul), I said if you don't leave me alone I'm going to add another day to my fast!

You know what? I was not hungry after that.

Thank you for your reply and yes I have actually fasted... I did a 10 day fast around the turn off the millennium, but I was not a believer at that time, and yet still it was very interesting to me how much more freedom it gave me in terms of the amount of time I had to do things, because I was no longer having to shop for, prepare, eat, and then clean up after everything involved around consuming food. And also quite coincidentally one of the programs that I listen to on my Christian talk radio station was all about fasting, just yesterday I believe it was... And how normal it was in the days of when Jesus walked this world, how fasting was just a normal part of life for them. I did try to do another fast some time after that but I was unsuccessful ... I think I was able to go like maybe 2 or 3 days and then I just couldn't overcome the hunger, and also I've had to fast for surgeries and things like that where you can't eat for a whole day, although they let you eat jello and consume broth which really doesn't quell the hunger pangs either lol.

That's a good question. A fast is abstaining from food for a period of time for spiritual purposes.

I fast sometimes. I broke a few fasts here and there not from hunger but from forgetting that I am fasting and accidently grabbing something good and taking a bite when I'm in the kitchen getting a cup of coffee. But I have learned to do it the right way but I drink more coffee than I do water. so i don't consider going without coffee fluids. Oh and I take medication for my seizures and i don't fast from that either.

I don't expect to get anything out of fasting past forcing my soul into submission to my spirit except, getting closer to the Lord with more prayer and reading the word than happens on non fasting days. I think it's good to spend more one on one time with the Lord while fasting. (Isn't that what the guys in the OT did? So we should too.

Plus I've had that spirit of Epilepsy since I was 5 and Jesus said, that kind only goes out by prayer and fasting. I have tried to cast it out in Jesus name but not so far so I'll continue to fast.

true fasting is just an intake of water, nothing else. & the real meaning of fasting is a "drawing" closer to Jesus, spiritually.

You are correct but there are different types of fast. Like what they call a, Daniel Fast. He wouldn't eat meat or delicacies only normal food like fruits and vegetables.

I asked the Lord about fasting before and He said many things can be a fast. You can be going to buy yourself a chocolate candy bar and then deny it to yourself and don't buy it but offer it to Jesus as a fast, and He said, that's good. We can also do what is called a Digital Fast, which is turning off the, Television, computer and phone so you don't look at any screens, but are fasting from it!

Have you ever tried talking to your soul directly and threatening him that you will add extra time to the fast to punish him if he doesn't stop with the hunger pains?

I kid you not, it worked for me! I wasn't hungry anymore.
