Bible flexing?

Not hating, but what's up with the Bible flexing on this forum. Like it could be a sin if you are coming at it from a place of theological superiority, right?
I thought Jesus wanted us to be like little children.

No. There have been countless complaints and even new users quitting because of it.
But I believe that since it is also the most active forum on the site, a lot is allowed. Site activity would drop drastically without them.

What exactly is Bible flexing? Didn't you make a topic asking how many times people read the Bible lately? Not that I am complaining, I actually thought it was a nice topic to read and would encourage more Bible flexing if this is what it is, it gave me some good hope, and secret praises to Jesus to see many have a good grasp and reading of the scriptures in this time of evil and ignorance

Like flexing one’s knowledge of the Bible , verses, etc, directed in way not so positive way. This isn’t directed at myself per say but from reading some of the banter.

Yes that was my assumption. In that case I maintain it is a good thing, it is no sin, though I would say if you flexing maybe one comes along and asks you to demonstrate some push-ups to see if you're actually strong or if you're just flexing.

DO NOT flex your Bible! I tried to flex mine and my phone snapped in half. Apparently Bible apps do not allow flexing nearly as much as real Bibles.

If you're talking about the recent thread about how many times you read your Bible through, that's not really flexing. It could turn into flexing at any time, but right now there's not a lot of flexing going on in that thread.

If you're talking about the Bible discussion forum, oh yeah, that is a lot of flexing in there every day all day. I sedulously avoid that forum for just that reason. And yes, it definitely becomes a matter of vanity for them to show off that they know more about God and scripture than anybody else.

Jacko, I totally agree with your OP and your definition of Bible Flexing. It's OK and I am not condemning the practice, I have occasionally done it myself. But normally I try to avoid quotes. My all-time favorite Christian apologist, C.S. Lewis, rarely used quotes to prove his points. It is a form of circular logic, using a source to prove a source. The Bible is the ultimate source of truth and must be used to judge any statement, no argument there. But the entire truth should be used, not just a part.

I'm not sure if flexing is the right characterization, although it is effective as a comical reference. It is derived from the body building scene where flexing without any degree of defined muscle would be very obviously seen as ridiculous. In the music scene, they call this posing. I believe that is indicative of someone that dresses like a rockstar but can't carry a tune let alone write any sort of smash hit song. I'm sure there are various other cultural examples to reference, and similarly the devil poses as an angel of light but, when I offer my view, I try only to do just that, not expecting anyone to see it as a masterpiece and surer that there will be critics but, personally, I do believe I'm making a beautiful sound.

Yup, flexing comes from body builders.. It's a vain attempt to show their own gains through all the hard "work" they have put in through the years. What do you do when you flex and your alone? You look into the mirror and admire your work. A non body builder might see that you look like a freak.


Regarding the bible flex, again, the amount of knowledge on this forum is astounding and surely 1000x what I know.

I was witnessing to my friend .. he says I sound like a cult now. I threw back some scripture from 1 Corintians 2:14. (not exact words) but basically, you cant see what I see because you don't got the Holy Spirit. and he got pissed
