Studying the Gospel of Matthew

Yesterday, I started a Bible plan/focus for the Gospel of Matthew. I choose Matthew because I say my daily prayers by stating our "Our Father in Heaven" daily prayer. Though I know I the words, I really wanted to connect and understand what they meant. So this took me on my new journey of studying Matthew.

As of today (October 13, 2024), I am paused at Matthew 6:1 as I have a few questions that were generated from Matthew 1-5.

1. Matthew starts by providing us the genealogy of Jesus (Joseph's side). Though interesting, what is the take-away. Is this something I should take time to truly learn?

2. Why isn't Mother Mary's genealogy mentioned?

3. I was under the impression that Jesus displayed prophesies in his toddler years. Does the Bible cover Jesus' youth? I don't recall ever really studying his youth but Matthew briefly mentions it and moves on to his adulthood all in one chapter.

4. Though I am educated on the Old and New Testaments, this is my first time reading an entire Book/Gospel of the Bible to truly connect and understand it - with that said, before Jesus was born, how did the word of God spread? I understand he was worshipped but how did so many pray to God with out Jesus and his disciples spreading the word?

5. Is Matthew the first time we are introduced to John the Baptist?

Matthew was written to a Jewish audience so it concerns itself with establishing that Jesus is the fulfillment of OT prophecies concerning the Messiah. The genealogy establishing Jesus in the lineage of David does this. There are many more fulfilments of prophecies throughout the book.

Through the Prophets, is how God communicated. Yet there were many false Prophets, the first chosen listened to, and t5he gathering of the people would not hear, listen or have faith in them, telling Tham about the Messiah to come here.
They killed them, mor4e interested in retribution, playing Judge, executioner over others they thought were wrong and did not join in with them then.
Jesus came along, was not recognized as the Messiah, let alone Jesus was not from the tribe of Levites, rather from the tribe of Judah. They did not give him credit in prophecy about were he was born. He did not grow up there, and was gone for many years in Egypt, before returning to Israel.
Prophets, actually seers today, are out and about telling truth about this freedom given the people to choose to do right by God's done work for them in risen Son to them.
God spoke to Adam and Eve after the fall, read in Genesis about the death curse that has gotten put upon all flesh, since Adam ate from that tree in unbelief

The entire First (Old) Testament is the Testament of man/woman's failures, over and over and over and over time and time again.
The seeing this need for a Savior gets revealed to each person that goes through the trying to do it right, and sees they can't and the need for God to lead.m seeing that it is only Son the risen Son that connects us to Father to lead us in all righteousness that is given us to do it, and not take any credit for doing it, thanks
The New Testament is new from the day Jesus went to that cross and died once of us all to be saved in his risen Life, as born again in God Father's Spirit and Truth, not of any flesh ever, (Romans 8:3)

Any drop of ink in any glass of water, always taints the glass. Therefore any of any one's self work taints the pure water of
God found in risen Son

As he yelled from that cross before his resurrection, "It is Finished" John 19:30 He completed his mission for us to be given new life without charge or anty work to do or to stay in good graces with God, It is done for us too ask and receive and see, if one will not quit beleif, especially going through troubles first

Amen , the geneology is all about establishing Jesus as the promised seed of Abraham the promised son of David from its first statement which then leads dorectly to the geneology leading from Abraham to David to Jesus

And also The son of David who would rule forever as king . The geneology is there to prove Jesus is the promised descendant of Abraham and of David’s line being of Judah as well .

Interesting, I see all lineage goes back to Adam. Ever since the flood in Noah;s day, we follow from Noah and his children, that line up with Seth, everything else killed in the flood, only eight people were saved and were not dunked, amazing to me this love of God in spite of myself, I thank God, I am a part of and so are everyone else aa well
No wonder God sent Son to that cross for us all. First before any new life could ever get given, reconciliation had to be in place firstDied once for all, to give new life in his resurrected life. That has to be willingly chosen by the people each one individually between God and them each, thank you

Yes the gospel accounts are meant to be studied in unison Matthew holds details luke doesn’t luke holds details mark doesn’t John has content none of them have one gospel and many sources of testimony all work together for a complete view

yes he’s asking why Mary’s geneology is t mentioned. He’s missing the fact that the gospel is about Jesus son of Abraham son of David

Rather than giving Mary’s geneology we’re told tbat she was married into the line of David which is the line of Abraham tbrough Judah

Mary’s geneology isn’t important to the doctrine the fact that Jesus is born of David’s line is what is important to matthews gospel. Because all of the ot promises were made about Abraham’s promised seed and David’s promised seed

mary is a pure virgin chosen for him to be born miraculously from to fulfill prophecy but she was espoused to Joseph who was of David’s line


the gospel is all about Jesus Mary simply fulfilled prophecy

There’s no reason to know marys geneology it only matters about Jesus geneology he wasn’t born through pro creation but by Gods command. Mary’s part was tbat she was the virgin chosen and ordained of God to give birth to and raise up his only begotten
