I wonder about you Moses lol. And the fact I found this hilarious makes me think I should go to confessional (if I were Catholic).
I had something like this happen. I hung a wet pair of sport shoes on the far end of the patio and pretty much forgot about them. One day I started to take them down and a small wren flew out. The birds had built a nest there and were raising 4 babies. So we left the shoes outside. That winter they (both of them) came back to roost for the night. That was 2006 and the shoes are still there waiting for another pair to come. It's the little things, ya' know....

I thought I was in trouble but I can retire a whole year earlier and have my retirement last 7 minutes longer. You should have planned better like me.
