Just curious.... does the "flat earth" theory state that the sun and planets are also flat? In that case they would have to be tipped on their sides directly facing us at all times in order to appear round

FE is as stupid as it is possible for a human being to be, apart from imagining that you can choose your gender. I do not blame anyone for doubting that the earth is a globe. The stupidity is that FE adherents reject the overwhelming evidence of the global earth. Every FE claim without exception has been examined and refuted.
Not only has every FE claim been refuted, it is clear that the earth is in fact a sphere. If I thought there was a point, I would try to help you understand. There is no point. FE people are deluded and there is nothing that can change that.

Like I said, a 100 km long straight edge. Or you could use a laser level on two sides of a large body of water such as a lake. It's been done. Of course, since FE people don't believe even what they can see with their own eyes, let alone what others have observed, I'm wasting my time with you.
And yet, you nor anyone else has actually addressed the OP's question. I personally would have phrased it differently, but the point has been made. Standing water is always level.
The OP did not take atmosphere or gravity into consideration.

Yes we do. And most scientists can't tell you what is.
And let's talk about that atmosphere. If space is real and what they tell us it is, its a vacuum.
Here's the problem with that.
Its the 2nd law of thermodynamics.
The laws of physics, specifically the second law of Thermodynamics, states that the vacuum of space should spontaneously equalize the pressure of earth’s atmosphere and increase entropy. This means that our atmosphere should be sucked into the vacuum of space if space is real. But its not. When gravity is used to explain this it fails. Scientists claim that gravity pulls the air molecules back to Earth. This seems reasonable, until your four year old let's go of his balloon.
