I was reading in another thread and was kind of surprised at how some of the posts read like instructions from God and how everyone else had better listen to the instructions or suffer the consequences. I'm not trying to single anyone out, or discuss another poster, but I would like to discuss what others think about this 'God told me to tell you' business.

In case anyone is not familiar with what I mean, I am referring to the apparent blossoming practice of supposedly receiving direct communication from God with the instructions that everyone else should benefit and be instructed by the 'word' a person has received. You will find all kinds of self proclaimed 'prophets' in certain church circles these days and of course it's easy to find on the web.

I think it's not from God in most cases but I would like to find out what others have to say about it. Thanks :)

I'll add that I do believe the spiritual gifts listed in Ephesians are still valid but have become misused in many churches and people try to gain importance in the eyes of others by operating either from their own flesh or worse.

Mat 7:15 "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

Mat 7:22-23 "Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.

I would keep my distance from anyone who says they speak for God. Stick with the Word of God. It is our teacher and counsel and is the only source of absolute truth on the planet. God speaks to us today through His Word.

The word of God always should be our first consult. And last. I do believe God can and does guide us by His Spirit as we look to Him for guidance in our personal lives.

Okay, God by Son has done what was needed to get done as now done
John 1:29 to take away, 19:30 it is finished

Whoever, has children, more than one. Does Dad or Mom, go to the other children to tell a certain child something to do or not do?
Or do these parents go direct to their children to tell them what they are thinking?

Now I am speaking of saved parents.
I am a household of five kids, I am the youngest, none of my sisters or brothers ever came to me to tell me Mom says or Dad says.
Except to get their own lying way, for their own self gain(s)

Ask Father in prayer, not preyer. I think you might now see God will speak to you directly in you through your new Heart God gives you. Ezekiel 36:26 ask receive and see new, unless you ask amiss and only want it to spend it on your own pleasures as many to this day do that still as did in Jesus's day here on earth to reconcile us all to himself first. That is done once for us all Heb. 10:10 Time to believe God personally spiritually between God and you. Jesus is the way, the truth and new life offered us ll to stand in belief and love as are loved through Son first on that cross.

I use to know someone who thought he had the gift of Pastor-Teacher. But my impression was that he just liked to bully people and tell them what to do. It seemed to me that in arrogance he was caving in to lust for power over others. I suspect that cult leaders have this problem in spades.

Many cults have been started by such people.:(
I’ve helped a few who got out of cults trust God again.

My sense is you have a kind heart.

Sadly, that is not as rare as we might hope.

We are not all at the same stage in our lives nor are Christians all at the same level of understanding or growth.

I do understand what you are saying though. At least I think I do

God told me to tell you that He likes this thread.

I once had cause to be surrounded by Charismatics....
They were very much into doing this to each other although they ALL believed they spoke in tongues, received words of knowledge, and prophesied nonsense.

They had healing seminars, gold dust, and all sorts of nonsense.

People do ALL SORTS of things in God's name, ask God for special direction for their lives and etc etc etc. People tend to be narcissistic with their relationship with God.

These people are being deceived and need our prayers.

Well like anything else, there are different kinds of Charismatics. Or just about any other flavor of the week denomination. But thanks for the positive 'God told me to tell you' ;) Actually though, that questions why so many are eager to 'get a word from the Lord' or put a vision or dream above the Bible. If there was no audience, I guess there would be no show :cautious:

I once attended a church where a group of people went to a certain 'revival happening' where people were receiving gold fillings. Yup. The man who had led the group and supposedly witnessed to the gold teeth as true, later apologized and repented of having been involved and believing it. All kinds of things with no discernment and people just get emotionally involved and duped.

There seems to be a lack of actual Bible 101 being taught in so many places these days.
Please understand that many of these people receive no teaching because they are deceived into thinking they only need the Holy Spirit teaching them.
They never attend a local church.
Many on this forum have the same belief.
