I was making my notes and was almost finished when somehow I lost half of them. Bah! Grrr. So, toward the end my notes get shorter, 'cause I had to go back and redo. There's probably more stuff missing, but I'm done :p

Ch. 21
A Hebrew servant may only serve for 6 years, the servant may go freely at the arrival of the 7th year. Unless he decides to stay. If he has a wife that was given to him during those 6 years and she had children during that time, the wife and children are to stay with the master. The servant may stay with his wife and kids and master. If he stays, his master will bore his ear through with an aul. Sounds like fun! Fun side note, I don't have any piercings. Not even my ears!
Various ordinances are given to the people. In this chapter, mostly pertaining to injuries.
"Thou shalt give life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe."

---

Ch. 22
First half of chapter pertains to property rights.
Then we have various laws. We come back to the mention of virginity (more on that upcoming areas of the Bible). If a man sleeps with a virgin who is betrothed, he must endow her to be his wife...unless the father refuses, then he must pay an amount for the bridal price of virgins.
Other laws: do not allow witches, bestiality, anyone making sacrifices to false gods, or anyone cheating/harming foreigners. Don't be a bleep to widows and orphans. Don't practice usury. Don't curse your leaders.
The first fruits of your labor and your firstborn belong to the Lord.

---

Ch. 23
Don't give false report/don't lie. Don't do wrong just because everyone else is! Don't treat others differently due to lack of status. Return lost ox/ass to the owner, and you are to help the animal even if owner is your enemy. Avoid false charges. Don't accept gifts that come with ulterior motives. Don't oppress strangers. Sow the land for 6 years, let it rest the 7th year. Work 6 days, rest the 7th day. Your household, your servants, your livestock, and even the strangers in the land must rest. Don't worship false gods & don't speak their name.
Keep 3 feasts a year unto the Lord: Feast of Unleavened Bread (Passover), Feast of Harvest (Pentecost in NT), and Feast of Ingathering (aka Feast of Tabernacles).
Special instructions for keeping festivals.
The Lord is sending an angel ahead of them to lead them and protect them. They are to respect and obey the angel. The Lord will drive out the people dwelling in the land little by little, the children of Israel are not to have anything to do with their gods.

---

Ch. 24
Moses met with the Lord and after he went and told the people all that he'd been told, and they responded that they would obey.
Moses wrote down all the words of the Lord, then he built an alter and set up 12 pillars. Then Moses sent young men of Israel to offer sacrifices.
Moses reads the Book of the Covenant to the people and they agree to obey and Moses sprinkles blood on them.

---

Ch. 25
The Lord tells Moses to have the people bring him offerings/gifts.
They are told what they should bring and they are given instructions on how to build/set up a sanctuary.

---

Ch. 26 & 27
They continue to be given instructions on how to build/set up the tabernacle.

---

Ch. 28
Instructions are given about the garments that Aaron and his sons are to wear.

---

Ch. 29

This chapter is about the consecration of the priests, to set them aside for God's purpose.
The process of consecration began with cleansing. Then they were to be clothed by garments given by God (not just any ol' garments). There were also to be anointed.
We are told about the various offerings: sin offering, burnt offering, consecration offering, and wave offering, and also grain offering and drink offering.
The son of a priest who becomes a priest must do a week of consecration. Instructions are given (vs. 29-37). After this, instructions for continual consecration are given.
The Lord says, "The tabernacle shall be sanctified by my glory...and I will dwell among the children of Israel and will be their God."

---

Ch.30
More instructions!
And also, Moses is told that when he counts the people, everyone that is counted must give a half shekel. Everyone who is counted, rich or poor, must give the same amount.

EXODUS CHAPTER 30 NOTES

v1-6 Instructions to make altar to burn incense

v6 Should be placed before the vail that is by the ark of the testimony

v7 “And Aaron shall burn thereon sweet incense every morning: when he dresseth the lamps, he shall burn incense upon it.” - incense burned every morning

v9 “Ye shall offer no strange incense thereon, nor burnt sacrifice, nor meat offering; neither shall ye pour drink offering thereon.” -
this alter was separate from alter made in Exodus chapter 27 for burnt offerings

v10 “And Aaron shall make an atonement upon the horns of it once in a year with the blood of the sin offering of atonements: once in the year shall he make atonement upon it throughout your generations: it is most holy unto the Lord.” - Once a year atonement was done of the alter of incense. “…your generations…” “…it is the most holy unto the Lord.”

v11 “And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,” - I think I finally got the answer after asking if it was Moses so many times in the previous chapters😅

v14 “This they shall give, every one that passeth among them that are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (a shekel is twenty gerahs:) an half shekel shall be the offering of the Lord.” - every soul of Israel must have been numbered before the shekels were given out.
Gerah meaning is an ancient Hebrew unit of currency and weight that was equal to one-twentieth of a shekel

v15 “The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering unto the Lord, to make an atonement for yours souls.” - interesting God did not expect more from the rich

v16 “And thou shalt take the atonement money of the children of Israel, and shalt appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; that it may be a memorial unto the children of Israel before the Lord, to make an atonement for your souls.” - “appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation” - this is interesting.
Need to study how this compares to practices of some churches of today, regarding tithes and offerings

v18
Laver meaning is a large basin used for ceremonial washing in the Tabernacle and Temple

v19 Aaron and his sons should use the laver to wash their hands and their feet

v20 “…they shall wash with water, that they die not…”

v21 “…was their hands and their feet, that they die not…” “…and it shall be a statue for ever to them, even to him and to his seed throughout their generations.”

v23-25 The making of anointing oil

v26-29 All that God instructed Moses to make, Moses must anoint them with the holy anointing oil to make them holy

v30 “And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office.”

v31 “And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This shall be an holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations.” - “your generations”

v32 Holy anointing oil should not be used on man’s flesh nor should there be others made like it

v33 “Whosoever compoundeth any like it, or whosoever putteth any of it upon a stranger, shall even be cut off from his people.”

v34-36 Instruction to make holy incense

v37-38 No one should use this incense for perfume or to smell, it is to only be used for the Lord

It refers to the fact that communicated assumption is a comment,
I'm not clear on what you mean here, we can agree to disagree:)
and I confirmed that I believe HB 2:10 & 4:14--15 teach that Jesus is the moral perfection that God requires.
I asked for comment on a specific question. The question was made directly from a comment you made. I believe you should be able to use your own thoughts and words if you believe in something. When you replied, you only used verses.
I do not understand why it is a problem to turn in your Bible from Exodus to Hebrews for a couple of minutes. Don't blame me that your question required an answer from the NT!
As discussed many times before, I personally believe you cannot look at individual scriptures alone, context is important. I believe you have to read the entire Bible. Bible means the written word of God. I do not believe you should read it in bits and pieces but from beginning to end, therefore, I am not going to skip ahead. We can agree to disagree here:). Furthermore, as I said before you should be able to express in words yourself an answer. It seems like you have now expressed possibly (still an assumption) where you stand regarding my initial question, but I think what you are saying now contradicts what you initially said as a standalone statement. We can agree to disagree:)
"Substitutionary atonement" means that Jesus paid the punishment we deserve for our sins.
I have not heard of this label before. I do believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins😀
"Imputed righteousness" means that God views those who repent and accept Jesus as sharing Christ's perfection.
(You're welcome for not citing the NT Scriptural basis for these doctrines :)
I do not believe in doctrines only God's Word, the Bible:)

I didn't really notice the meaning of this, thanks for the reminder! This would have been nice for Jacob (Israel) during his time😀

So true. Society is rife with it.

LoL, yes! Words of wisdom.

Thank you! Your notes are also appreciated! I read through your notes and made notes of somethings to make a note about (good grief, that sounded like Kamala!). I just haven't done it yet due to decompressing my brain from the fiasco with my notes :LOL:

I will get to it though!

Just my own personal input/notes on your notes.

v22 Not sure what is meant by “…yet no mischief follow…” there is punishment according to what the judges determine

v23 “And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,” - in reference to verse 22
It's a very good question that you bring up. People feel differently about these scriptures, especially those who take a pro-choice vs. pro-life stance. Some interpret it to mean that the child in the womb has perished, but that since no other life was lost then the perp shall be punished, but not be put to death.
I personally believe that when it says, "yet no mischief follow" it's talking about no life being lost even the child in the womb (it could be that a miscarriage happened, but the child was okay). I believe this because as you referenced, the next verse tells us what it means (in my viewpoint). Thou shalt give life for life. Therefore, in my viewpoint, it means no one died when it says no mischief occurred.

v3 Not clear the meaning
vs3: Neither shalt thou countenance a poor man in his cause.

Countenance means tolerate. Thus, I believe it means that we aren't to go easy on someone just because they are poor. Everyone is to be treated equally in court.

EXODUS CHAPTER 28 NOTES
v29 “And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goeth unto the holy place, for a memorial before the Lord continually.” - does this show that Aaron is the high priest?
Yes, the high priest intercedes for the children of Israel. This, I believe, is symbolic of things to come.
Christ interceding for us.

Concerning the breastplate of judgement being upon the heart: “In Hebraic thought, the heart is the core of our entire being. It is the center and soul of who we are, comprising the seat of all our thoughts, feelings, and actions. God wants the High Priest to not just represent the Israelites with the right actions, but out of a real love and compassion for the people he serves. The heart needs to motivate the task. It’s personal."

EXODUS CHAPTER 30 NOTES
v11 “And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,” - I think I finally got the answer after asking if it was Moses so many times in the previous chapters😅
LoL :giggle:

I mean that saying "we can agree to disagree" is another comment.

If you believe only GW/the Bible, then you should appreciate that I cited HB 2:10 & 4:14--15 when I said that I believe Jesus is the moral perfection that God requires rather than simply use my own thoughts.

If you believe context is important so that you cannot believe HB 2:10 & 4:14-15 until after you read the entire Bible, then I guess you will not be saved until--how many months will this reading project take before we reach the RV 22:21?

Believing that JC died for our sins is called the "substitutionary atonement", and believing that believers share JC's perfection and so may enter heaven is called "imputed righteousness".

"Doctrine" means "teaching", so if you believe only the part of God's Words that are not doctrine, you do not believe much!

HAND! :cool:

v22 "...so that her fruit depart from her..." - this statement is why I was confused. I thought this statement was saying her child did die within her. If not so, what do you think this is meaning? All that you said seems to make sense. Thanks for sharing!😀

vs3: Neither shalt thou countenance a poor man in his cause.

Countenance means tolerate. Thus, I believe it means that we aren't to go easy on someone just because they are poor. Everyone is to be treated equally in court.

I looked up countenance. I read it as tolerating a poor man in his cause, which I didn't understand. From what you said, it does relate to how the rich should also pay the same amount as the poor in regard to payment of shekels (numbering of souls of Israel). Constant reminder everyone will be treated the same. Thanks for your viewpoint on this!😀

Yes, the high priest intercedes for the children of Israel. This, I believe, is symbolic of things to come.

Powerful, thank you for this comment on the breastplate!😀

It is one of those scriptures that could be interpreted different ways, which is why there are 2 sides of thought on it. It's just my viewpoint that "...so that her fruit depart from her..." probably means the baby was born prematurely, but the baby did live.

Forgive me! I just noticed I said miscarriage in yesterday's post, that is incorrect. I meant prematurely born! Don't mind me... I've never had children, so I don't know what I'm talking about :p

Seemed like a lot to unpack today :giggle:

Ch. 31
God feels Bezaleel with wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. And he appointed him Aholiab. In all the hearts that are wise, the Lord put wisdom so that they will make everything the Lord commands. More instructions for the tabernacle.

The Lord explains the Sabbath and it's importance.

The Lord gives Moses 2 tablets of testimony written in stone with the finger of God.

---

Ch. 32
The people lack patience and told Aaron to make them a god. Aaron had them give him their golden earrings. He fashioned a golden calf and built an alter in front of it, and he said that tomorrow would be a feast unto the Lord. When the morrow came, the people offered burnt offerings and then they partied. They partied a lot and loudly!
God tells Moses to go down at once, because the people have corrupted themselves.
God is angry with the people, Moses pleas for the people and God holds off His anger.
Moses goes down the mountain. Joshua, who had been waiting (assuming at some point not far from Moses) thinks there is war in the camp. Moses tells him it's not war, it's people acting stupid!
Moses, in his anger, breaks the stone tablets.
Moses burns the idol, grinds it into powder, scatters the powder over the water, and makes them drink the water.
Moses questions Aaron. Aaron says that he told the people to bring him all their gold earrings and they did. He threw the gold into the fire and out pops this idol. Likely story!
The people were naked and out of control. Moses asks if any are on the Lord's side. The sons of Levi gather to Moses. They are told to kill...probably those that there the most overt in their worship of the idol; the leaders of this debauchery. 3000 were killed.
Moses returns to the Lord. The Lord tells Moses to lead the people and He will send an angel to go before him.
God plagues the people over that fiasco with the calf.

---

Ch. 33
God tells Moses and the people to go to the land He promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. An angel will be sent before them. God will drive out the people groups that are in that land.
The Lord tells the people he will not go into the midst of them because they are obstinate (that is, stubborn) and His presence will destroy them. They mourn and God tells them to remove their jewelry and they do so. Taking off their jewelry was an act of humility.
Moses went to the tabernacle. The people watch from their tent doors. As Moses entered the pillar of cloud descended. The people worshiped.
The Lord spoke to Moses. Face to face, as man speaks to his friend. Isn't that such a wonderful verse? How smashing it would be to speak to the Lord face to face. One day, we will!
Moses left the tabernacle, but Joshua stayed. Moses prays to the Lord. Moses finds favor with the Lord.
Moses desires to see the Lord's glory, but the Lord tells him that no one can see His face and live. Then, the Lord passes by and covers Moses face, then removes His hand allowing Moses to see His back, but not His face.

There is a noticeable change in relationship...from face to face, to Moses can't see His face. The difference being, that Moses (or anyone) can't see God's face in all its glory...not in our sinful nature, that is. Note that Moses wanted to see God's glory, it's God's full glory that we can't see in our current state.

---

Ch.34
As God commanded, Moses cut out 2 stone tablets (like the previous 2) and he went up to mount Sinai in the morning with the tablets. The Lord descended and stood with Moses.
Moses asks God to go with them and to pardon their sin and wrongdoing.
The Lord makes a covenant with the people. He says He will perform miracles such as haven't been seen on all the earth.
The Lord warns that the people are not to worship the gods of the land where they are going. They are to destroy their alters, images, and groves.
The Lord again tells the people to keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
Moses spent 40 days and nights with the Lord. He did not eat or drink. He wrote on the tablets.
Moses came down from the mountain and his face shone because he had been speaking with the Lord. The people were afraid of him. So Moses would put a vail on his face when he was with the people, but would take it off when he was with God.

---

Ch.35
The people are reminded of the Sabbath.
The people are told what gifts are needed for the tabernacle as well as the different skills needed. All that were skilled, men and women, contributed.

---

Ch.36
The people brought more than enough that was needed for the tabernacle. The people are told that no more needs to be contributed.
vs 8-38 Tabernacle construction.

---

Ch. 37 & 38
More construction details.
ch.38 vs 21-31 speaks of all the gold, silver, and brass that was used.

---

Ch. 39
Details of how the priests garments are made, as commanded by God.
vs. 32 All the work of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation finished.
They brought the tabernacle and all its furnishings to Moses.
Moses looked upon all their work and saw that they had done it as the Lord had commanded, and Moses blessed them.

---

Ch. 40

God tells Moses to erect/set up the tabernacle on the first day of the first month. God details how this should be done.
Moses did all that the Lord commanded.
The tabernacle was erected/set up on the 1st day of the 1st month of the 2nd year.
Moses, Aaron, and Aaron's sons cleansed themselves.
vs. 33 The work was finished.
vs. 34 & 35 The glory of the Lord fills the tabernacle.
As they journeyed, whenever the cloud lifted and moved, they went onward. If the cloud rested over the tabernacle, they did not journey. "...the cloud of the Lord was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night."

~~~~~~
Have a pleasant & peaceful afternoon/evening!
Blessings.
It is one of those scriptures that could be interpreted different ways, which is why there are 2 sides of thought on it. It's just my viewpoint that "...so that her fruit depart from her..." probably means the baby was born prematurely, but the baby did live.
Forgive me! I just noticed I said miscarriage in yesterday's post, that is incorrect. I meant prematurely born! Don't mind me... I've never had children, so I don't know what I'm talking about :p
😅No worries! We're getting through a lot daily which is awesome! Mistakes are bound to happen from time to time. Remember my crazy mistakes earlier😅
Take your time! I'm working on it right now, as I have some things going on in the afternoon. Heads up, chapter 32 has 35 verses, but it's got a lot to unpack. I just finished it and am about to start 33.
Thank you for your patience and the warning for studies! I have a project I have to work on that is due tomorrow. It might be late tonight before I post. I will definitely get it up today😀
I hope your day is smashing and blessed 🙏
Thank you, you as well!
EXODUS CHAPTER 31 NOTES
v1 God is speaking to Moses
v2 Bezaleel is the son of Uris who is the son of Hur; they are from the tribe of Judah
v3 God filled Bezaleel with the spirit of God, wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship
v4 Aholiab is the son of Ahisamach; they are from the tribe of Dan. God has given with Bezaleel Aholiab
v7-11 Is God saying that Bezaleel and Ahisamach shall do all these things like Aaron and his sons?
v12 God is speaking to Moses
v13 “Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord doth sanctify you.” - “your generations”
v14 Defiling the sabbath, another sin unto death without killing another man
v15 “Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.” - God repeats six days of work, seventh day rest. Do not see a specific day stated for the seventh day
v16 “…for a perpetual covenant.” - Perpetual meaning is never ending or changing
v17 “…and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.” - If God rested, imagine how important it is for mere humans needing to rest. This is why people experience psychosis and diseases are exacerbated from not getting enough sleep/rest. To have a whole day to rest to refresh makes perfect sense
v18 “And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.” - God wrote with his finger on the tables of stone
EXODUS CHAPTER 32 NOTES
v1 These children!
v4 What is happening?!
v5 What?!
v7 Wow, these people have no patience! After all they saw God do for them, quickly they forget. This why the Bible is our daily bread so that we do not forget.
v9 Stiffnecked meaning is (of a person or their behavior) haughty and stubborn
v12 The way Moses questioned God 😲 “…Turn from they fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.” Moses told God to repent?
v13 Moses reminds God of His promise
v14 “And the Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.” - God listened to Moses. Was God really going to kill the children of Israel?
v17 Where was Joshua this whole time. Waiting at a distance for Moses while not being with the children of Israel?
v19 Moses gets angry when he sees the children of Israel worshiping the calf god and breaks that tables that were from God
v20 Moses burned the calf god. Moses made the children of Israel drink the reside of the calf god?
v22 Aaron blames the children of Israel. Peer pressure is terrible
v25 The children of Israel were naked from the direction of Aaron. Didn’t catch the reasoning from Aaron
v26 All the sons of Leve gathered around Moses when he asked who is on the Lord’s side
v27 “And he said unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.” - Moses speaking to all the sons of Levi
v28 The children of Levi obeyed Moses and about 3,000 men were slayed that day. How many were the children of Levi?
v30 Moses will make atonement for the sins of the children of Israel
v33 “And the Lord said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.” - the book, meaning the Bible?
v35 God plagued the children of Israel for serving the calf god that Aaron made
EXODUS CHAPTER 33 NOTES
v3 “Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee: for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the way.” God seems to have less patience for the children of Israel after what happened with Aaron
v10 “And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the tabernacle door: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door.” - must have been a sight to see
v11 God spoke to Moses face to face. “…but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.” - What happened to Joshua?
v17 Moses found grace in God’s sight - Thank you Moses!😀
v20 “And he said, Thou canst not see my face; for there shall no man see me, and live.” - “canst not” double negative meaning Moses can see his face. Is Moses not man?
v23 “And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.” - interesting, not clear on the meaning
