Sooo, and I'm not trying to pick a fight, but why are you in a Catholic thread answering questions aimed at Catholics? :)
Equivocation is always nice.

Webster said:
1
: a person who belongs to the universal Christian church
2
: a member of a Catholic church; especially: roman catholic
EDIT:This is probably my last post here for awhile. Would have been, but you asked a direct question. I find it somewhat disrepspectful to not answer, based on the situation sometimes though.

Watch out for the wave!

Interesting, I wasn't aware of that being the meaning of the word. Well I'm sure you got my meaning anyway :) Again, I was just curious, not telling you you shouldn't be here! :p

It appears you edited this in while I was responding (took me awhile to respond, had to look up post numbers).

To further clarify.

Also, my father's uncle is a vietnam vet, and served in army intelligence in Iran during the Coup d'etat in '53 when the CIA overthrew Mohammad Mosadeq (democratically elected) and placed in power the Shah. My grandfather served in the Kansas Air National Guard, and there are others I could list if you care to know. Just putting this out there because It appears it would be neccesary.

However, it appears a storm is brewing.

Peace.
The reason they called them Charlie is because its short for "coons" which is a derogatory term to describe the vietcong. Its derived from the word raccoon, which is a dirty, viscious little animal that scrambles around the forest and is hard to catch.

You want to come in here and challenge our christianity and make derogatory remarks and then you complain when you are called on it. Maybe you should take a hint.

I can see what you're trying to do.

You're not going to pull me into that trap. I'm not going to go any further with this topic with the direction you're trying to take this.

Charlie or Mr. Charlie Slang for Viet Cong (VC). The term is short for the phonetic spelling (used by the military and police to spell things over the radio) of "VC," which is "Victor Charlie."

Personally I don't know how people from other denominations that don't have confession manage, I don't know where I'd be without it! Almost every time I leave the confessional I feel like I'm walking on air, and I feel right with God, like if I died there and then, I would have no fear! I see it as coming from during Jesus saying "If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained."John 20:23, and therefore it isn't some man made invention, Jesus gave us it. When we go to the confessional we have to fight against our embarrassment and fear, and go to Jesus and say sorry, and Jesus sees our sorrow and forgives us. Again, without this sacrament, and also Eucharistic Adoration, I would have a much harder time on my Christian journey. :)

Oh and I go to confession maybe like once every two months, sometimes more regularly, sometimes less.

I have never heard of a church that didn't offer private confession. Protestants don't require it the way Catholics do, so it isn't as common as it is among Catholics. There was a time when the Church required everyone to go to confession EVERY WEEK, at least once a week, before you got to take communion. I understand that isn't the case any more.

Also, most "main-line protestant churches" have a corporate confession during the weekly Eucharist service / Mass, right before communion. So it is done every week, like how the Catholic Church used to be (pre-VII I'm thinking). Of course corporate confession is different from private confession, but if you do it right, it's still just as freeing, and you still get the absolution at the end.

The big difference is that a lot of Protestants don't like the idea of confessing to a priest. They feel one should confess to God, and to God alone. Of course, it is only God who forgives our sins, so I get that part, but what I think a lot of Protestants don't understand is that God isn't always as good at holding you accountable (until the judgment day, that is) as a priest, or even a sister or brother in Christ, would be. The purpose of private confession is that once you have admitted your sin, your sisters and brothers can hold you accountable and help you to overcome that sin. Just praying by yourself doesn't offer that corporate support.

Well as far as I know pentecostals don't have confession, at least that's what a pentecostal friend told me, but other than that I'm not sure! :) I've definitely found it to be one of the greatest gifts the Catholic Church has to offer, because guilt is a heavy burden! Yeah I know what you're saying, there is a prayer during Mass called "I Confess" or "Confiteor" which is for the purpose of confessing your sins to God, but obviously it doesn't have that personal experience of giving a detailed account of your sins to Jesus, and saying sorry for each. The Confiteor is as follows, well at least this is how we say it in Ireland:

I confess to almighty Godand to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned,in my thoughts and in my words,in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,and I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters,to pray for me to the Lord our God.You seem to have a great understanding and respect for Catholicism, unlike many people on this site, why is that? :)

Well, a lot of us Episcopalians consider ourselves "Catholic lite."

I disagree with some teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, and other teachings of other Catholic Rites, but in general, the complaints most Protestants -- especially Evangelicals -- have against Catholics just don't hold water.

I don't like it when any group of people is judged unfairly.

Ok so I've come to a decision regarding CC. I will no longer argue about my beliefs with ignorant people who have no desire to take part in an intelligent debate. If I see someone in a post either with an interest in Catholic beliefs, or even with different beliefs who can respond intelligently and relevantly, I'll get involved. Otherwise I'm staying out of it. There is a strange breed of ignorance among some people on this site, that infuriates me, so I'm better out of it. I know we should defend Catholicism against attack, but I see no use in exhausting myself to no avail for people who only want to be sarcastic and aloof.

I'm going to have to agree with Roddog. Confession is something I couldn't live without, once I leave the confessional its like I have a new lease on life and anything is possible. As for how often I go, that depends, but I usually try and go at least once a month regardless of if I think I've sinned or not.

1. jungle coon
an alternate word for vietcongs, usually referring to a dirty girl
