My PC is presently on W10, and it is not apt for upgrading to W11 due to the lack of certain qualifications .

My present consideration is to switch to LINUX so, but, any helpful input would be very welcomed.

It is my understanding that millions of PC's may go to landfill due to this change. It seems a company commanding such influence would also have the intellectual capacity to have foreseen this advent saving billions of dollars for the collective with a non-qualified machine of their own design. Thanks and be simple, i AM A BIT SLOW THESE DAYS.

Linux Mint is a very user friendly version, with a helpful chat client already installed and automatically connecting to their help chat.

Try Linux Mint cinnamon for an experience closest to Windows.

Ubuntu is another popular variant. Actually Linux Mint is a modded version of Ubuntu. But you can get straight Ubuntu if you want. There's also xubuntu for very old computers, kubuntu for people who want a lot of flashy whiz bang windows action on their desktop, all sorts of buntus.

Aside from that, it depends how far you want to go down the rabbit hole. You can get gentoo if you want to spend the rest of your life compiling kernels specifically optimized for your computer.

Based on a true story, and she doesn't know he put it in his comic because her Wi-Fi hasn't worked in weeks.

Linux is free, but you will need an external flash drive or DVD because The computer can't install the system while it's running the current Windows system. It needs an outboard flash drive to hold the system while it's installing.

1. Download whatever Linux you want to try. it will come as a big honking .iso file.

2. Use Rufus to make a bootable flash drive. Rufus will ask you where the flash drive you want to use is and where the Linux file you want to use is.

3. Reboot the computer and boot from Linux instead of windows. Usually you dribble f12 immediately when you start the computer to get the menu where you select what you want to boot. If f12 doesn't work, Google "One time boot menu" for your specific computer.

4. Follow on screen instructions to run the system from the flash drive. When the system is up and running, it will give you the option to install it on the computer itself if you want.

I bought a used MacBook Air from Best Buy after my old one couldn't be upgraded anymore. I work with Linux all day long, so I really don't want to have to deal with it on my own time. My next "computer" will likely be a Pixelbook. I just really don't need an actual computer for anything anymore.

I should add that it's not all or nothing. You can have both windows and Linux on your computer at the same time if you want. You might keep windows around until you get used to Linux.

Here are a few high level options to consider.

Windows 10 will be supported and get free updates until October 2025 and sometimes Microsoft extends this date.
So you don’t have to rush.

I can help you bypass certain Windows 11 requirements which will take a lot of time since we’re going to do this over text on a forum or private message and I don’t recommend it since you might be frustrated.

There are many cheap options out there if you want to consider spending a little money, or you don’t want to spend any money at all .
Since you are in Spain, (I think) a lot of these options might be off limits to you though, however I know in Europe they have a lot of thrift markets for PCs if you know the places or the people.
Generally electronics are cheaper in USA than Europe.

You can get Linux for free which will require a bit (or a lot) of a learning curve from you which could also frustrate you a lot.

You can keep using windows 10 after October 2025 without getting any updates , which puts you a risk for a virus or malware infection.

Think about these high level options which require a lot more details into each one of them.

Thank you for a lotof information. I need to try to absorb all lyou and others have offered me.
My primary concern is exactly what you mentione, no protection from viruses. If push come to shove I may bite the bullet, my shortcomings that is, and go with Apple.

Thank you , Ely, for your help. God bless you.

Moving to Linux is a wise move - soon enough, all who continue/stay with Windows will find themselves in a Microsoft cloud-server-based "jail" of sorts - when/where they will have full control over your data while you have none except what they decide to give you.

They could then hold your data hostage unless you pay a monthly access fee - or some such thing.

Windows "12" is destined to be 100% cloud-based - no more local data - no more local access - everything "in the cloud"...

Microsoft is working fast-and-furious to put a [strictly] web-based "Windows" on the internet - after which, they intend to end all support - and [possibly] even "break" - other "versions" anywhere else.

Don't wait until October to begin getting a Linux system set up.

Like Lynx said - you can actually have both on your machine at the same time - dual-boot - or - literally both running at the same time if Windows is set up in a virtual environment within the Linux environment.

Well... Apple IS pretty solid.

Expensive, and for nerds it's pretty restrictive, but for people who just want a computer that works for everyday normal-people stuff, it's a good choice.

I don't have it for two reasons. One, I'm a cheapskate. Two, I like to do nerd stuff that you can't do with an Apple computer.

But if a missionary is going to some country where you can't get good eBay shipping or tech support, I am glad to see him taking an Apple laptop with him.

If all you need to do is check the forum and get emails out, maybe watch some YouTube videos and look at some web pages (and if you can afford it) Apple is a pretty good choice.

Ok family, this one sounds feasible, culled Zero Patch. Any and all who are up to it, please, by all means share your analysis. I am all ears. God bless you.

PS Do not be afraid of hurting my feelings, the Windows folks have beaten you to that punch.

Ok, i listened to that and it's a valid legit thing which many companies use. For example there are still Windows XP or Windows 7 machines used by researchers which use third-party protection software.

But the question is this: Why pay ZeroPatch for a service which could cost you as much as buying a new laptop with Windows 11 or even purchasing a Windows 11 license key from Microsoft?

Prices are listed below. With the free version you get essentially nothing.
The pro version is 25 Euros a month which means 300 Euros a year which means that you can get a low end laptop with Windows 11 for that kind of money.

of course they did.
what they would prefer, naturally, is that you spend hundreds of dollars on a new machine.
they are a business, after all, lol
