I'm having a hard time finding it now, but will keep trying. It was a boy laughing while getting a haircut, sitting on a hobby horse chair.

I was thinking about when I was getting a haircut at his age with my special chair and misremembered this video. He didn't have one of those special chairs like I thought, but he sure had a special haircut.

I love it! So much better than a kid screaming and crying over a haircut. His giggles are so cute and catchy, no wonder the barber was giggling along.
We have a place here that specializes in children's haircuts; they have all sorts of fun chairs like the horse, an airplane, a lions head. Their client limit isn't based on age but rather on when a client is physically too big to safely be in the chairs.
unfortunately my kids were too big when they first opened. That was a bummer because my daughter (who has autism) was not a fan of getting her hair cut (when she was real little we could do it at home, but after age 8/9 years old she wouldn't let us, she went 1- 1 1/2 yrs w/o a haircut because of it). A place like that would have maybe been great for her.
Seeing your post and reading your story, along with my own thoughts and experience got me thinking.
I've never seen or heard of this, and wonder if someone has done it somewhere: Same concept, but custom build some chairs for older children and adults with different abilities that keep them from being in a regular salon chair. Could be profitable, but more important it could be a much needed resource/service for some people.

That's a good idea .
I would think a barber would happy to make that accommodation. The one Dad made was mounted on the arm rests and wouldn't be large enough for adults. However if there were a thin cushion on top of the seat, it wouldn't bring a taller person too high to reach. That would be the way to go.
I've not seen one designed like that, but it would meet a good need.
We're there's a separate chair or an accessory that mounted on the ones they had?
If there's anything that might help when going to the barber, like turning down the music in the background to reduce over stimulation, they should be willing to help there. It's a bright, strange environment and a good barber will be cooperative of any suggestions. I've seen Mothers even stand in front of children who might be nervous.

I don't know how our local kids shop has their chairs exactly since I've never been in it, and have only seen photos.
For my daughter it was more the uncertainty of a new person, new place, new experience, etc. Once I got her in a salon chair she ended up loving it. Thankfully though she has good sense and quickly realized and understood the cost of going to a salon for a simple haircut vs. having mom do it at home wasn't worth it. She just likes simple straight cut across/trim off dead ends, nothing fancy, and thankfully we can do that at home. T
