NPR says he was also head of Moscow's nuclear defense... Ukraine also killed a ballistics engineer last week.

Shutdown Averted
Congress passed a last-minute spending package to extend government funding to March 14. President Joe Biden is expected to sign the bill on Saturday. The American Relief Act passed the Senate in a late night 85-11 vote that technically wrapped up after the government had gone into a shutdown at 12:00 a.m. ET on Dec. 21. The House passed the same bill in a 366–34 vote late in the afternoon on Dec. 20.

The passage of the legislation by both chambers of Congress caps off a week of uncertainty as lawmakers sought to reorganize following the collapse of a previous funding agreement. Aside from punting government funding into next year, the 118-page bill includes $110 billion in emergency hurricane relief, extends the farm bill for one year, and includes a series of other minor provisions.

Absent from the bill is any mention of the debt ceiling. President-elect Donald Trump called on Johnson to use the lame duck session to suspend or raise the debt ceiling to deprive Democrats of policy leverage in the next Congress. (More)

Oh, I agree! For sure- I would expect nothing less than a patriotic defense of one's own nation- except the current Kyiv regime came from the violent rejection of its own sovereignly appointed government... What can I say? Is it like a video game, where you automatically win because you captured the capital city? Is that how real life works? You take the capital city, and call everyone who doesn't go along with your rule "separatists"?

The Maidan was the most irresponsible revolution in the history of the world! I don't care about the Ukrainians killing Russians- I do; but in the grand scheme of things it matters a lot less than setting nuclear powers against each other... ideally, I wouldn't have to explain why that is bad.

The Young Turks segment is the best part.

If I'm understanding this correctly; Mike Johnson's job is partially a sort of rino-roleplay or go-between for MAGA and more 'establishment' republicans. As speaker, he gets media coverage; so he is using that to loudly announce everything that the uniparty would otherwise do in a corner. I guess that's not a bad thing; even if it draws the ire of people on Truth Social etc. We could almost have a balanced federal government. I just hope someone keeps Trump from erring too far on the side of big business.
