Do you ever catch yourself turning into your parents? Scary, huh? So often things come out of my mouth that sound just like my mom and I have to roll my eyes.

Last night I found myself thinking like my awesome stepdad who raised me. He always insisted upon having his drinks with ice in a GLASS, NOT PLASTIC, and he would never eat from paper plates or anything plastic. He was an amazing chef (his hobby) and he said that plastic affected the flavor and temperature of things. Being the person who had to clean up and do the dishes, this gave me plenty of grrrrrrrrrrr moments. :D

But now…even when I’m home alone, I want a GLASS and a REAL plate. He was right. And it makes me smile to remember.:)

Anyone else?? :)

I have those moments from time to time, but they don't bother me, being an identical twin that feeling of growing into the habits of a close relative is very much the norm, it used to bother me a lot.

When it does happen I just remind myself that there are far worse people I could be like.

Come on Jullianna..
Are your parents that bad?
And you?
What about you?
Are you so special, are you so much better than your mam and dad?.

Have you grown up kids already.
Think about it...You should bind to those who feed and raise you up!
If you are a real Christian of our Lord you should bless them an help them.....

oops i just realize that you already 38..
Sorry.. :)

My parents WERE amazing. They are both with the Lord now. You apparently missed a thread I posted here a few weeks ago about how much I loved, honored and miss them.

Please be careful about what you post here. Some people are less mature in the Lord and may be more deeply impacted by such needless insults than I. God bless you anyway. :)

Its an amazing thing that happens, as you get even older, you look in the mirror and see them in your own face, oh the curse of it all. :)
I find now that I understand all those things that made me crazy when younger, and I now do them and agree!
But dont tell them that! shhhhh! :)
The one thing that brings me comfort, is that it will happen to my children as well, in fact, my oldest spoke to this the other day with fear.
How good is God Our Father, that His best traits, we recieve and pass onto our children!!! :)

God bless.

Those are actually good points to pick up. One thing I think I picked up from my parents is being sensible with money. I am good at putting off purchases of things I want until I have thoroughly researched them, and even then I like to wait. I sometimes wait until its being discontinued lol.

Well Jules as I've said a few times before I never met my father. I only know him from pics so I'm not quite sure if I have any of his traits or anything. My mother, whom I do see but not too often, is a little OCD and has an uncanny ability to remember dates... Does that remind you of anyone from this site? HEE HEE!!!

I definitely do have certain things carried over from my grandma tho, and that makes sense since she's the person who raised me. Her impeccable attention to detail, her fierce mentality of 'God and family first, everyone else second' and of course, her pride in her Spaniard and Puerto Rican ancestry.

All I can tell you is that I'm fantastic with little kids and I've had plenty of practice babysitting my lil cousins, and that in fact IS a hereditary trait: It came from the Father above :D :D :D

I catch myself acting like my mom a lot, which is no bad thing- she raised 3 kids mostly alone and did great.

My husband, on the other hand, finds it annoying when I start acting like my mom and being stubborn or very opinionated about something. He makes a joke of it by saying, "Hey, your Harper is acting up" (meaning I'm acting like my mom's side of the family). I told my mom about him saying that, and we had a good laugh together :)

I think most parents are willing to put up with a good deal from their children as they're growing up, just so that one day down the road they can hear their kid say, "You were right". I hope that when my own son grows up, he'll find that he acts/talks like me and his father both :)

I've pretty much vowed to not be like my parents for the most part. My sister and I grew up knowing we could never come to them with anything big especially if we were in trouble. They had some parenting strategies that I did like and plan to use but for the most part I hope I'm not like them. I want to raise my kids right but I also want them to know that even though they may be in trouble they can always talk to me.

Wow, VikkiKate, my heart really goes out to you. My son is 19 now, but one thing I've told him since he was tiny was that he could always come and talk with me about anything, but to just choose his words carefully and respectfully. We are very close and he has told me far more than I probably ever wanted to hear at times. :) I pray that someday you do have children of your own and have that relationship with them.

I never met my real dad either. Feels wierd sometimes, huh? I was blessed with an amazing stepdad though. I've always thanked God for him.

The OCD and attention to detail thing sounds VERY familiar. ;)

Good to have you back in CC btw! God bless!

Hi Juliana

It's wonderful to hear of this testimony. You are so blessed to have wonderful parents (in particular your stepdad) who have walked right before God and you, so that you can emulate their lifestyle and continue to be strong in the Lord.

When I was a teen, my mother insisted that I used a bucket of water and a cloth and cleaned my room floor everyday (Yes I mean it!). In addition, the study table should be cleared (books and stationary) every night before I slept. Now that I am a father of three girls, I also encouraged them to clear their study tables every night before they turn in, except that I do not have a better track record compare with my mum.

I look pretty much exactly like my mother. From the crazy hair to the 'spare tire'. We even have moles in almost the same places.
