Hi Burn, I appreciate your honest question and I commend you for being plucky enough to ask it. šŸ˜Ž

I don't know what you are petitioning God for, but it's possible He hasn't answered the way you want because He knows it's not the best thing for you.

I was mad at God for several years. And to this day, I have to acknowledge it as the dumbest thing I ever did. FINALLY I realized that my anger was ruining my life and my relationship with Him. So I turned over the thing I was wanting/hoping/praying for, and asked Him to make me content without it.

And honestly, I have to say He answered that prayer. Not the prayer for the thing I wanted, mind you.... it's been 15 years since and still no dice. But He DID answer my prayer for contentment. So I really can't complain. And along the way I learned something about trusting Him and His plan and timing, too.

Beautiful testimony. TY for sharing.

I come to places like this and I see how people react in forums. Why are you mad at God. If only I could list them all. But this forum post is one reason. You people will praise His name via text online but as sure as we live and breathe you donā€™t act that way offline.
DC Talk said it best ā€œThe greatest single cause of atheism in the world today are Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.ā€
Im mad at God for allowing the church I grew up in to scare 11 year old me so much with the ideas of Hell that I practically ran down the center aisle to get ā€œsavedā€. Iā€™m mad that God allows His followers to condemn me and mine simply for living our truths.
I came here wondering if I could maybe find answers. Guess I should give it a few more years.
Yeah. People are mad at God. The omnipresent omnipotent singular reason behind people using Him as a shield instead of living His truth and His word.

It is fine to lament and not always fake a smile/pretend you are fine. However, your madness cannot be turned into anger/hatred towards God. In Psalm 88, David feels total separation and rejection from God, and even says darkness is his closest friend (which is severe). He is in a full state of depression. As you already know, David continues to have faith.

Psalm 88[a]
A song. A psalm of the Sons of Korah. For the director of music. According to mahalath leannoth.[b] A maskil[c] of Heman the Ezrahite.
1 Lord, you are the God who saves me;
day and night I cry out to you.
2 May my prayer come before you;
turn your ear to my cry.
3 I am overwhelmed with troubles
and my life draws near to death.
4 I am counted among those who go down to the pit;
I am like one without strength.
5 I am set apart with the dead,
like the slain who lie in the grave,
whom you remember no more,
who are cut off from your care.
6 You have put me in the lowest pit,
in the darkest depths.
7 Your wrath lies heavily on me;
you have overwhelmed me with all your waves.[d]
8 You have taken from me my closest friends
and have made me repulsive to them.
I am confined and cannot escape;
9 my eyes are dim with grief.
I call to you, Lord, every day;
I spread out my hands to you.
10 Do you show your wonders to the dead?
Do their spirits rise up and praise you?
11 Is your love declared in the grave,
your faithfulness in Destruction[e]?
12 Are your wonders known in the place of darkness,
or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion?
13 But I cry to you for help, Lord;
in the morning my prayer comes before you.
14 Why, Lord, do you reject me
and hide your face from me?
15 From my youth I have suffered and been close to death;
I have borne your terrors and am in despair.
16 Your wrath has swept over me;
your terrors have destroyed me.
17 All day long they surround me like a flood;
they have completely engulfed me.
18 You have taken from me friend and neighborā€”
darkness is my closest friend.

Hi Rayne, welcome to the site! šŸ˜Ž

It sounds like you are mad at Churchianity moreso than being mad at God. I've had my issues with church folks doing dumb stuff. Heck, I've even BEEN a church folk doing dumb stuff! Don't look to us because as humans we have an annoying tendency to disappoint in some utterly stupefying ways. šŸ˜‘

Instead, seek God for who He is... not what He can do for you, or who you want Him to be, or who the church peeps told you He was .... just seek Him to get to know Him because He's LITERALLY ALL THERE IS.

And in the end, if you do that with no other motive than to truly know Him.... that's where He will meet you. Take some baby steps, you won't regret it! šŸ˜‰

What are you mad at God for?
I'm not mad at Him for anything (though I considered saying "For making mosquitos, bedbugs, fleas, etc", tongue in cheek), but there is an "atheist" at another site I frequent who is furiously angry with Him and likes to take it out on me.

There are many people who have sought God and received no answer, and most likely havenā€™t recovered from it. But I doubt any will answer this thread or discuss it in this forum, unfortunately.
What do you mean? I already answered that one too.

If things don't go the way I want, it is often up to me to decide if I will go with the way things are going instead.

Of course I don't have to... But it's usually the best way to go, if I'm not going to get my way anyway.
I get the impression you have a bug up your butt and you are expecting this thread to not be answered the way you (ostensibly) want it to be answered. In fact you are COUNTING on it, so you can have an excuse to stay grumpy.

Also...

Thatā€™s great dude. Then this thread is not for you. So please move the ā€”ā€” along.
Once again, that's not how a forum works. We've been over this before.

I could start talking about purple giraffes in this thread if I wanted to. (They are a definite upgrade over pink elephants by every metric.) It would be kind of rude, but it's not technically against forum rules and nobody could stop me.

If you can't take people saying things in your threads that you don't want said, you might want to try running a Skype group chat. You have a lot more control there.

Really? Speak for yourself. There are genuine Christians in this world, and your extreme cynicism is never going to change that reality. Quite frankly, some of you sound like overgrown crybabies. You know, "Ohhhhhh, God didn't give me what I want, and I am sooooo mad at him!"

The first prerequisite for being one of Jesus' disciples is to deny ourselves. It seems to me that several people here have no interest in doing the same.

Well, I did it again. I stood up for God/Christ on a "Christian" forum. Let the disdain for God/Christ/Christians continue...

@Burn1986 Iā€™m just curious why are you so obsessed with fasting thinking that youā€™d get a Miracle from God?

Yeah, I wasn't even going to touch that one. People will see what they want to see and ignore what they don't want to see. If you want to believe Christians are phonies, that is what you will see.

I need to go back to page 1 and read all of the posts that were made here. At the moment, I am thinking that a better name for this thread would have been "The Holy and Just God is bad, and petulant crybabies are good."

Hmm. Wellā€¦
I was trying to word something so as not to get a lot of Bible ā€œquote warriorsā€ and 100 pages of literally every rabbit trail imaginable.
Do you know what your comment reminds me of? No? Well, seeing how this is not only a public forum, but a Christian forum as well, I am about to tell you. It reminds me of the children of Israel who murmured because they were only given Manna to eat. You know, the ones who preferred the fleshpots of their Egyptian bondage over that which represented Christ; the true bread sent down from heaven. Their mantra? IT WAS BETTER FOR US!

This place boggles my mind. Why? Because so many people here have a disdain for scripture and the "quote warriors" who seek to point wayward people back to God and them (the scriptures).

Vituperate much?

Those quote warriors throw out a lot of verses but never really answer questions.

Vituperate much?
I had to look up the word "vituperate" to see what it even means. Here's what I found:

Vituperate means to criticize someone harshly and abusively, often using strong and condemnatory language. It suggests a particularly intense form of verbal attack or reviling.

First of all, you have criticized the OP more than anybody else here, so you might want to pose your question to yourself. Secondly, as God knows, I have not been the least bit abusive towards the OP (or anybody else), nor do I have any desire whatsoever to condemn him or anybody else. Instead, what irks me, and justifiably so, is when I see people condemning God while seeking to justify themselves, and this is precisely what Job did, and that is why I suggested to the OP, early on, that he should prayerfully read the book of Job. This is what I am specifically referring to:

Job 40:8
Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?

That is a question that the LORD asked Job after Job had repeatedly been making false accusations against God. In Job's case, he finally put his hand over his own mouth as he repented.

Like it or not, God is Just. For anybody to be "mad at God" is a very slippery slope to be on. When Christians like myself quote scriptures, the purpose or desire is never to condemn. Instead, it is always done with the hope of bringing somebody back to a right relationship with God, and a right relationship with God does not include anger towards him.

"An intense form of verbal attack or reviling?"

Please.

If anyone is truly guilty of the same, then it is the OP who basically told me to "F off" in one of his early responses to something I had said.

Many of us think we can just seek God and thatā€™s it, or fast and think God will automatically adhere to us, but it doesnā€™t work that way. Iā€™ve learned that if you fast and God is not telling you to, or you have unconfessed sin, then you are in danger of stirring Gods wrath against you, as I did. Then youā€™re worse off than when you started. God will not bend to our demands or requests if we do not meet His criteria. Period.
I am honestly happy that you have learned these things. I have not read the entire thread yet, but may I ask you a simple (?) and sincere question?

You have mentioned that you have fasted and prayed before and it worked (you seemingly got the desired result). You have also mentioned that you have fasted and prayed even harder for something else which has not come to pass, and how it has thrown you. May I ask what it is that you have been fasting and praying for? I am not trying to be nosey, but is it possible that you are either asking for something that is out of God's will for your life, or asking for something that simply has not come to pass yet because the timing is wrong?

Contrary to a recent false accusation leveled against me here, I am not your enemy, nor am I seeking to revile or condemn you in any fashion whatsoever. We have all been through very difficult times, and, as I said early on in this thread, my own life has been anything but easy. Throughout our ordeals, we hopefully learn things which are not only beneficial to ourselves, but also potentially beneficial to others who are going through situations which are similar to situations we have already been through ourselves. Again, my sincere desire is to help you, but being mad at God is not part of that equation. Even though you have treated me with disdain since I entered this conversation, I believe that you are wise enough to understand this. Anyhow, if you wouldn't mind revealing what it is that you have been fasting and praying for, then I would be interested in hearing it. Whatever you decide, stick with God. He will never lead you in the wrong direction.

Somebody once said something along the lines of "If you don't know what God wants you to do, then do what he has already told you to do"...or something like that.

There have been many times in my life when I have sought God in prayer and seemingly received no answer. At times like that, I have learned to do the things which God has already instructed me to do. Do you know what I have found to be true time and time again? When I do the things that I already know to do, then I get fresh instruction or revelation from God. Some of the things that God initially tells me to do (almost all of them, honestly) involve me working on myself, or involve me dealing with something inside of me that isn't right in God's eyes. Some of those things are strongholds which have been erected over many years, and they therefore require a bit of time and effort to properly tear down. When I effectively deal with those things, then it seems as if I am equipped to take the next step, or it seems as if God can reveal to me what comes next. Some biblical examples of what I am attempting to say would be people like Moses and Joseph. Both men had tremendous calls upon their lives, but God needed to work on them for years until the time came that the character needed to fulfill those callings had been formed within them.

Anyhow, my question for you is this:

While you are waiting for God to answer your current prayers, are there things which he has already revealed to you that have not yet been attended to? In other words, is it possible that God needs to form the character needed in you to properly handle that which you are currently fasting and praying for?

It is just a question. It is certainly not an accusation. Again, contrary to false accusations, I am just trying to help.
