Hi everyone! I’m new to learning about clergy attire and was wondering how different traditions influence what clergy wear. I’ve seen various robes, cassocks, and stoles, but I’m curious what are the key differences, and how do you choose the right one for different occasions?
 
Our pastor wears a suit and tie, but only on Sunday.

Usually he wears jeans and a t-shirt.

90% Of ministers choose suites for their services. Wool beats any polyester because it's comfortable in a large range of temperatures, 4 seasons, and looks far better than polyester.

Wool jackets can pair well with matching slacks all the way to casual jeans depending on the style. There are plenty of like new wool jackets available so there's no need to spend top dollar for brand new. Nobody will know but the person who saves a few hundred dollars.

Good question. Since the Bible has no reference to clergy or dress codes, you will have to ask each denomination how they decide.

I think so too.
I should have found the one featuring a flock of the pope's cardinals. They were modeling dresses for the Mardi gras ball.

Mom gave me a stack of lace crochet doilies her grandma made. I wasn't sure how to use them until I saw this picture.

I was raised Roman Catholic and have been to churches where the pastors wear anything from the above to an untucked dress shirt and skinny jeans.
You have a good question.
Rarely have I ever heard it asked. This is the perfect time to have a sense of humor. In too many churches you'd be ostracized for asking why their pastors/ bishops wear this.

Would you mind if we choose some extreme examples?
 
Here's one that I remember has become a trendy with some of the non-denominational/charismatic pastors. What do you think about this?

I'm not opposed to leather jackets.
I have a brown one my Dad bought me for Highschool graduation. He took me to all the leather stores between here and Pittsburgh. That was cool to see how much he loved me. He bought me a leather European style hat before then in 7th or 8th grade. It's hanging on the hat/ coat rack across from me.

There was a men's specialty store at century 3 mall where I picked out my favorite brown leather jacket. It's rather unique, but not ostentatious.
When we advertised classes, I wore it. I just don't wear it to preach in.
I have a high end brown leather suit jacket for formal occasions with a tie for formal job interviews, etc.

That's just been one of my styles, but I still have no idea why all those pastors are buying black biker jackets.

It is really nice to have those memories and something tangible for remembrance.

Leather has its place in every person's closet, lol, but I do not understand the cookie cutter look that these pastors have adopted, I guess they think it makes them more relatable than a suit.🤷‍♀️

I think a lot of unusual trends start in California. You are probably right. 😎👍
Funny thing is that I preached a funeral where a lot of the friends of the deceased wore black leather and denim vests.

The wife and two teenagers were believers and no affiliation with the husbands friends. She asked me to conduct the funeral because I had the honors of leading him to Christ the week before he died.
His fellow bikers came from this side of the country to bury their friend.
He was a member of the Pagan Motorcycle Club.

That was an awesome funeral. Hundreds of Pagans got to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ!
I hope the Lord gives me more opportunities like that.
