These folks have TDS :) so the discussion isn't even about farming. It's about how much they hate Trump because they think that he is dumb and screwing American farmers so they are pretending to be EXPERT biologists with 5 master degrees.
You should have heard a couple of my coworkers yesterday. Goodness. You would think what they were talking about was new!!! LOL. Well, us Canadians have been being shafted and selling ourselves short as a matter of course for quite some time. We give away our raw resources and then axe the jobs and industries in our country so that people in other countries can do with our resources what we used to do to support our own citizens. It has to stop somewhere, and sometime. Now is as good a time as any.

Yep, I remember that lesson. The only thing more stupid that tariffs, is to let other countries put tariffs on your exports while you don't have tariffs on their imports.
Again more simplification, it depends on the commodity and what is being produced in the country.

Trump is the one that signed the deal, take it up with him. lol

This is a good time for any leader in any country to prioritize their country first. Renew deals and renew alliances.
The same thing is happening in some countries in Europe.
During this process you find out who your real friends and your real enemies are.
Personally i wouldn't mind to see a stronger alliance between USA and Russia and let Europe sort things out on their own for a while, after being on vacation their whole lives and after getting free military protection while buy gas from Russia who they scream is their enemy and want protection from USA.
It's baffling.

Canada is pretty rich and Trump is acting pretty stupid to think we might want to be the 51st or any state.
What is he going to do, invade us if we do not peacefully surrender our resources over to him?
Yes, we have benefited from being close allies, and having a strong military neighbour so close by.
But that does not mean we have no national pride, or military of our own. Canada became a country
specifically to keep you guys south of the border we created with the formation of our country.

That's how he aproaches a deal when he wants to negotiate. Starts with some absurd goal and if people follow the bluff, he will take it.
If people won't, he will try to negotiate half of what he has in mind and still claim a win. He's doing the same thing with Greenland.
But yes, i don't think Canada will ever become a 51st state. We talked about this and most Canadians will lose their universal healthcare.
Canada is a sovereign nation with its own culture and traditions so i don't think any politician up there is crazy enough to become the 51st state.
What both nations should do is re-negotiate trade deficits. This is the whole point of this rhetoric if you know Trump.
Once this is done then Trump will find something else to pick on.

Yep, if you've ever seen some of the documentaries on his lifestory, his father trained him to categorize people as winners or losers and he honed these skills in the New York real estate market which is a shark market.

Does one need to be a farmer or even an expert farmer to know that certain farming practices are harmful to the land? And people? And the environment? And surrounding flora, fauna, and ecosystems? Hey, yeah, kill off the natural pollinators with all your chemicals and toxins in fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides etc, and then wonder what is happening to the butterflies and the bees?

I sure hope they aren't banking on Texas to take up the slack from lack of things like produce, cattle or them sending bees to pollinate their crops. After years of drought and pesticides It's becoming a desert with a bunch of dead honeybees and just in time for tariff season. https://www.kcentv.com/article/news...exas/500-a4026457-efc6-4ff0-9d9f-6e37c2f0f389

He's probably just yanking Canada's chain for grins because it has to be approved by the House at 60 votes and then the Senate to become a state or to modify states in the US.
Canada is a liberal place that would get around 50 representatives and 2 senators if it became a state. No way Canada becomes a state. He's trolling. Specifically, he's trolling Trudeau, and not the Canadian people.

What I heard is that Canadians love America and want to be the 51st state. Think of the advantages. You no longer have to be so polite always saying you are sorry. You can finally have one national language of English. And you no longer have the British royal family pretending they own the whole place. If it will make everyone feel better we can rename the Arctic ocean the Canadian ocean.

Trump said a few minutes ago that "Canada has been ripping us off with tariffs on lumber, dairy products" and a few other items he mentioned.
"They will be met with reciprocal tariffs" he said.
