HA!

I actually do in my head -- you just don't see it. I have to force myself to think of your new name if I want to directly call you by name.

But the reason I make a conscious effort to use your current username when seen by everyone else is because I know an even bigger fuss will be made if people knew what your old name was!! Because plenty of people gave you grief about THAT name too, probably even more. (Plus, I consider your old name your own business and wouldn't use it without permission.)

Plus, if I just called you by your old name, can you imagine the riot that would start?!

LOL!! "SEOULSEARCH, WHY DID YOU JUST CALL SUB [insert your old name here]???!"

People would assume I'm an even bigger bully than what some have said I already am!

HOWEVER.

If you changed your name back to your old one, and I really did change my name to BigFatDoofus, we'd pretty much be even, and people would think we were just making fun of each other. :D
Hahaha. I have no problem being connected with my old name, but, yes, I can see how that may look to others. You'd gain a lot of heat for that 😂

I did get a lot of fuss over that name. But it also caused many to ask me why I chose it. Though I believe that was when PMs were open to everyone.

Believe it or not, under that name, I recieved a higher amount of women showing interest in me. I'm not sure why that was.

BigFatDoofus 😂
Whoa. When i was typing that out it popped up exactly correct in my suggestions bar. I feel pretty confident I've never written that on my phone, or anywhere else, before. So how it knew what I was typing is weird. 🫣
But yes, if we each used those names it would come across weird to outsiders haha. Tag team trolls 😂

And to any unaware and curious, from 2011-2018 my name was 'Ugly'. 😂
And I sometimes miss it haha.

I can only speak for myself, but I know that for me (and a lot of women I know,) we become very interested in a guy who sees himself as an underdog, and are very curious to find out why. It's the empath in us being set off on red alert, and we want to know if there's something we can do to help. :)

Plus, the way the world is now, humility is so hard to find that anyone not declaring they are the latest, the greatest, and most spiritual bestest teacher/prophet/leader ever can be quite appealing.

I only have two nickname stories, and they both come from the old apostolic chat days. May it rust in peace.

When I first started chatting online I chose Psalm_97 because I liked that Psalm. A couple years later I dropped it and just used my name, isaac. One of the moderators kept calling me psalm right up until they closed the chat down. I said her brain had a very, very slow refresh rate.

At one time we had so many different Jennifer users that they struggled to find different unique names for themselves. Jennifer, Jenny, Jen, Jenn, Jennn, InJen, Ynnej...
My best friend is called Jennifer ! 😲😆😆😆

I'm not really a mom. "Snackers" was a college art project. The challenge was to make something out of clay that conveyed personality. Somehow he came out with a sassy smirk that tells you he's clearly up to something, so I joked that he was my first child.

I joined CC in my 20's, when the chat room was running. I was leery about creepers and figured that a pushy guy would be less likely to bother me if he assumed I was a mom. I soon learned that just refusing to share a picture is enough to do the trick, but by then there was no going back.

I remember I had some fun with it back in the day, occasionally claiming that Snackers had hacked my account if I said something snarky or if an uptight person took issue with my comments. I remember one guy was completely thrown off, demanding to know how many children I had and insisting I control them better 😂. Those were the days....😏

Anyways.... I didn't think of the "mom" part as dishonest at the time, but in hindsight I guess maybe it was 🤔. I probably wouldn't do it over again the same way, but I don't really want to change it either. Thoughts, yall? ☕🤔

This is why I get a little... uh... ornery with new (or returning people) who come in here and start blasting away without taking the time to get to know anyone. I expect someone to actually invest into people before they can think they have the right to "correct" them (and even then, I don't pay much attention to those who never accept correction or talk about their own flaws themselves.) But that's just me.

Many users here have a long and rich history, and it might not all be under their current name. Sub has often been called an unbeliever by newcomers, and that's just not true. I value his honesty about his Christian walk, because I can relate to a lot of what he's told us he feels.

We also have some regulars who've been here a very long time who are excellent at spotting "repeats" (the same people under new names when they'd rather not be recognized.) I don't spend as much time here as I used to so I'm not as good at this, but I appreciate that many here put in a lot of work to protect the community.

As I'd said in another post, the funny thing is, for the first several years, SubUgly :D and I bumped heads A LOT, but as we got to know more about each other, we found out that we actually (gasp on my end!) had some things in common. But it literally took years. And when someone I love was facing something Sub is (unfortunately) is all too familiar with, I knew I could go to him for sound spiritual advice -- and a lot of life experience.

Now, sometimes I go overboard and I can fully own up to that.

But this is why I become especially protective over several core members here.

When you've been interacting with people for over 10+ years and know them fairly well, it's very disheartening to see newcomers shredding them without even making an effort to get to know them.

Ok, reading this part had me laughing so hard, I was wheezing!:ROFL::ROFL:

My favorite part about judgmental people is their extreme entertainment value (though of course, I can be just as guilty!)

I've had the privilege of meeting both Snackers (the college art project) AND his mom, and I can tell you that they are both delightful (and yes, they are both usually up to something.)

Kudos to you for wondering if your username is "honest," though I would argue that most anyone who has something they see as theirs could have a similar name and still be honest.

For example, if someone had a cat named Mittens and called herself "MittensMom," that would be 100% honest -- it just takes a little effort to figure out that she's not a mom to a human. :)

I have an infamous TURQUOISE stuffed owl (some have erroneously labeled him green,) so I suppose I could technically call myself Winston'sMom, though I don't allow any of my flock to call me "Mom." Rather, they are to address me as "Big Sister," purely to indulge my extreme vanity, by which I can still think of myself as just a big sister (but still young!!) instead of a mom.

And may I say that SnackersM is INDEED a spiritual mom to many.

She has to answer questions from young people that make my jaw drop (and I've been known for asking a few questions in my day!) and always does so with grace and finesse.

Plus, I've also seen her handle groups of teenagers with a set of skills that professional hostage negotiators would envy.

Liam Neeson, even with his famous "particular set of skills," ain't got nothin' on our Snackersmom. :geek:

I've used two online monikers. Tall Timbers is the name of the road that attached to my driveway in Alaska where I lived most of my life. Not sure why whoever named the road added the s at the end of Timbers, but it's there so I include it.

The other name I use is Mugre Pinzon. I spent some time as a missionary in Colombia S.A. I knew someone there whose nickname was Mugre and I liked that. Pinzon was the last name of a family that lived near where I lived most of the time I was there. The Pinzons were better off than most and would feed me if I dropped by during meal time.

I personally don't think it's a good idea to use one's real name on the internet. It might not matter, but then again it might...

When Jesus gives me a white stone with my new name on it, I'm thinking it might be Tall Timbers. Rev 2:17

I like it!! :p

However, "Scholareuse" sounds like some kind of disease one would catch from reading too many books, or claiming to be overly intellectual... :geek:;)

Fortunately, I'll never be in any danger of catching it.

(These days I read mostly articles and very few books... Yet another victim to too little time and too short of an attention span.)

I love this tribute to a family who ministered to you while you were ministering to others! :)

And yes, I personally don't think online safety is talked about enough in the Christian community, which is why I bring it up in a lot of my posts.

I've made friends here on CC who had completely made-up names just for being online, and I think that's very smart. I wish I would have done the same thing. Old-timers here know my first name, but I prefer now that everyone just call me Seoul and that's how I introduce myself to newcomers.

When I was on the Christian dating sites, I never gave out my phone number unless we'd been talking on the site regularly and for a very long time. That weeded out pretty much everyone, lol! I get it. The phone is so much quicker and easier. But it was also an interesting screening method.

Some guys were quick to call me "immature" and "paranoid." Some people will even try to make it spiritual, saying, "Don't you trust God? Why is your faith so weak that you fear man?"

Yes! Because I like to think I'm not so stupid as to just believe anyone, that's why. (Though I do indeed have my all too stupid moments as well!)

This is why I holler so often about spiritual manipulation -- if someone is trying to guilt you into doing something and bringing God into it as a reason, RUN as fast as you can. That person is speaking from their own motivations, not the Lord.

I think this is especially important to get through to young women, because we're taught that we need to be submissive to men or else we're part of the evil worldly feminist system.

When or if God gives you a husband, yes, he's the head of the household -- but in the meantime, there is nothing un-Christian about making your safety your number one priority. And no, it doesn't mean you have a Jezebel spirit or have fallen prey to evil feminist philosophies, as some will try to tell you.

Now, some would say I have failed in life because I'm still single and tell me it's because of "being paranoid."

Would I have found someone by now if I'd have relaxed my stance?

Maybe.

But let me tell you, I also didn't have to change my phone number a single time while I was on dating sites (for a couple years,) while I knew other people who had to change theirs every few months (sometimes more) because of constantly picking up stalkers and those who refused to be told "no."

If these discussions about usernames are shaping some into superheroes, alas, my true nature has been revealed.

I am but a lowly arch villain, here to spread the dreaded "Scholareuse" virus to every. single. person who dares to read my posts!!! :devilish::whistle::cool:

He sure is in my,, er, I mean, HIS, own mind.;)

Each one of my stuffed critters has a part of my personality imprinted onto them.

Winston is...

The side of me that wishes it could get away with a whole lot more than in real life. He says and does the things I would love to get away with, but for some reason, can't.

I've taken Winston traveling with me to visit other CC members, and he's always very popular -- with most.

Dipping toes in the singles pool…

I go by Mr E (mystery) but my first username was MoabiteRaider (it’s scriptural). A graphics gal created an avatar for me with a flaming skull and tag line- Assassin of Love. 😜

I’ve also gone by Boneman (I work in orthopedics) with a walking skeleton.

The funniest one that I’ve used came from trying to sign up on a site with the username Anonymous. When I typed it in it autocorrected to Anne, and so I became Anne Ominous, which I thought was so clever, but everyone thought I was a woman, so the joke was on me. 😋
